It's really fucked up how Christianity teaches that some people can only be reached for Christ when they hit rock bottom. Christians will pray for people to endure tremendous suffering simply so that the non-believers can hear the voice of god. Truly an abysmal failure in imagining a loving god.
"he's so loving because he caused me to experience the greatest pain of my life so that I could finally listen to him"
Absolutely insane move on the part of an all powerful, all knowing, all loving deity. You're telling me the ONLY WAY was the road of agony? Unrelenting love, kindness, and divine revelation weren't options?

"Jesus said 'follow me' not 'follow your heart'"
Yeah and isn't that interesting? How systemically Christianity teaches its followers that they can't trust themselves, that their intuition is not just incorrect it's dangerous. A person's dreams and desires can't be trusted if their heart is "desperately wicked."
But I only have one understanding to lean on. Even the 'revealed will of God' is still being filtered to me through my own mind, my own understanding. And if you teach me that I can't trust myself, I am going to be easier to manipulate. I'm going to be subject to the whims and will of whoever convinces me that they can be trusted, but never held responsible. If things go to shit, that'll be on me, right? I will have done something wrong, not my perfect leader -- whoever they are.
If I'm the only one who is going to be accountable in the end, I have to be the one in the driver's seat. I deserve to live my own life.

sometimes i cant help but be scared for the future, of the what ifs. sometimes i get a sinking feeling deep in my chest when i think too hard about everything.
what if there is a god, and they dont let me into heaven because they think ive blasphemed them too much?
what if hell is real and i end up there for all of eternity?
what if i end up being wrong about everything?
sometimes i cant tell if these are tangible fears, or just ghosts from a tortured past.

people complaining about people online not respecting christianity are some of the whiniest bitches alive. sorry that people are allowed to make fun of your religion now i guess you'll just have to settle for the paltry centuries of global hegemony it enjoyed. sorry

Can we talk about the "immediately trusting someone more because you found out they're a Christian" to "immediately trusting someone less because you found out they're a Christian" pipeline because it's a wild ride.

my most antitheist opinion is that hell is like. a cartoonishly evil thing to believe in and insanely abusive to teach children about

Philippians 3:8 Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ.
I grieve the things I lost by knowing Christ Jesus.
I threw away so much in my Christian life. I devalued things that could have been precious to me. I distanced myself from potential friends. I isolated myself in harmful ideology that told me that my life was rubbish to be thrown away. I have gained so much by leaving the faith: new friends, hopeful future, better life. But along the way I had to accept that nothing can replace the years that I lost to Christianity.
