It was late in the evening when you stood on the balcony of your shared room. The calmness that surrounded you gave you a sense of peace, your gaze overlooking the city beneath you. You can hardly remember the last time you had felt like this, the sound of pure silence being something that you were definitely not used to. The life you led didn’t allow you to experience the serene state of mind that you were in now, hence why you were enjoying every single second of it.

The sound of your name being muttered behind you had caught your attention, the uttering was followed by familiar arms now circling your waist in a loving manner. The faint smell of amber and mint had reached your nose and you took in a deep breath, wanting to keep the feeling of tranquility as you nestled further into his embrace.

“I wasn’t expecting you to make it back this early,” you state, a soft hum rumbles through Bucky’s chest in response, leading you to let out a breathless laugh. You weren’t surprised with his lack of response - no, if anything, you found it amusing that he was a man of few words. His vulnerability only showed when you were both alone, and though it’s odd to some, you find it endearing that he only shows his true self when spending his time with you.

“I left as soon as I could,” he mumbled against your shoulder, briefly lifting his head to place a kiss on your cheek. “I told them that I had to come and help you with Max.”

You immediately let out a string of giggles and nudged him, tilting your head slightly to meet his eyes. The amusement and fondness that you held for him had shown through your gaze, mirroring the same look that he had for you. The two-year old labrador was spending the night with your younger sister so that you could have some time to handle what was supposed to be a couple of last minute preparations for the wedding. It ended up taking a little longer than expected and your sister had offered to relieve you of the ‘motherly duties’, as she called it.

“You’re unbelievable.”

Bucky pulled you in as close as he could, pressing his lips against your shoulder once more. “I knew you’d still be up anyways,” his fingers intertwined with yours and he couldn’t help but to smile at the feeling of your ring brushing against his hand. It was a simple reminder to him that he was going to be able to spend the rest of his life knowing that you had chosen him. You love him. That’s all he has ever wanted. “I wanted to see you before everyone else gets to,” his hands gave yours a quick squeeze of reassurance. “And I know you probably spent all day worrying over the tiniest details for tomorrow. I needed to make sure that you weren’t overworking yourself.”

Hearing him say those words made reality sink in. Of course you had both worked together to plan for everything in order for it to be perfect, and you knew what was to be expected, but the word tomorrow had thrown you off for a moment. It was almost surreal to know that you’re finally going to be marrying the man that you’ve been in love with ever since you first laid eyes on him. Despite the journey and the series of obstacles that were thrown at you, you were both stubborn and extremely strong-willed, so those difficult moments were merely seen as more reasons to be together.

With a quick spin you moved his hands and turned to face him, your back now resting against the rail. “Bucky,” Your fingers slowly trailed up along his jawline, cupping the sides of his face with both of your hands. “We’re getting married tomorrow.”

“We’re getting married tomorrow,” he repeated with a grin.

“This is for real.” You stated with wide eyes.

“One hundred percent real.”

“You and me,” You gently shook his head with your hands in astonishment. ”Together forever.”

“Together forever, love.”

He didn’t think it was possible, but looking at you, and the beaming smile that had spread across your features, had him falling in love all over again. The look of pure happiness and love that you directed at him and only him was enough for him to press his lips against yours in a desperate manner as you both stood out on the terrace. All of the possible emotions that he could feel for you had been poured into the kiss - to which you gladly returned with an equal desire. He was in complete bliss; the genuine endearment and affection that he holds for you was something he would never be able to live without. Any potential doubts that you both held that night were quickly replaced by love, hope, and excitement for what your future together will bring.
