My dad @jalalwandavi and I always get overwhelmed by emotions when we see this wall, this picture only shows a detail of the lions hunting scene . King Ashurnasirpal is here depicted finishing off one of the 450 lions that he claims to have killed. Killing lions was a royal sport in Assyria, symbolising the king’s role as protector of civilisation against savagery . A magnificent red kite flew passed us a couple of times in our walk with the boys yesterday. This bird of prey used to be very common in old days, particularly London ; the last sighting ( until recently) in London was in 1859; then it was persecuted and it was the main reason behind the birds elimination; they were even written about by Shakespeare . I have found a picture taken by an Italian girl from Rome I had met in the hostel where I was staying in August 2019. I had left Italy and came to England and stayed in north london . I only had a suitcase and lots of dreams at the time. I had it as my English was great and it wasn’t really 😅 I spent most of the year getting lost in the tube and trying to work out what people were saying to me. I had my second birthday in a row in lockdown this year!
