Chanyeol couldn’t sleep

and he hated it. He hated the feeling of having an empty space beside him on the bed where he’s currently lying down, because he too knows himself that he couldn’t do anything about it.

He shifted his position on the bed, slightly messing up the thick duvet and letting in the cool air hit his skin. Chanyeol slightly shivered due to the sudden contact and turns around to face the empty space where a certain person should be lying at. ‘Baekhyun, where are you?’ he wondered, unknowingly letting the tears run down from his tired eyes. It’s been months and Chanyeol admitted himself that he isn’t doing great, he still couldn’t let go of his Baekhyun.

He missed their morning routines, where he would always wake up with the mop of light brown hair lying on his chest, and the smell of strawberries hitting his nose as he kissed the crown of his lover. The bright laughter filling their apartment whenever Chanyeol would do something silly or say something humorous to Baekhyun. Chanyeol misses the way Baekhyun’s eyes would glimmer like the stars whenever he looks at him, or whenever they exchanged their ‘i love you’s’, the hushed voices and breathy moans every time they make love to each other. The sound of the smoke alarm turning off every once in awhile whenever his lover is ‘cooking’— Chanyeol misses it, he misses every inch of Baekhyun.

It’s frustrating, and it hurts so bad, because it has been months, almost a year, a week before it turns into a year to be exact. Sleepless nights and useless cries would usually happen by the time the clock struck midnight, with Chanyeol crying and begging to the quiet night, wishing towards the stars to do something. He would lie down and stare into the empty space right next to his, imagining the features of his lover’s face, to the curves of his body, and the sound of his whimpers that informs Chanyeol that Baekhyun’s already deep in his sleep.

And now, he couldn’t nothing about it as he stare at the empty space again, reminiscing the memories they created together, the good and the bad ones. He sighs, closing his eyes, imagining his lover’s voice lulling him to sleep, as his light touches caressed his cheeks. Chanyeol feel the tears swelling up, and this time, he knowingly let them fall.

“Yeol-ah, the stars know,” Baekhyun said quietly as he rests his head on Chanyeol’s chest. The other raised a curious eyebrow, with a playful smile slowly etching his lips, “What do you mean, babe?”

Baekhyun looked up to him, with the same glimmer on his eyes everytime he looks at Chanyeol, and for Chanyeol— it always takes his breathe away whenever he looks at his lover, what a sight to behold indeed. “The stars told me that they’ve already finished writing our story,” replied Baekhyun with a small smile, but this time, Chanyeol noticed the glimmer in his eyes slowly fading away.

He chuckled instead, kissing his lover’s forehead, “Oh, good writers they are, aren’t they? They already finished ours in no time,” he jokingly said before leaning down and pecking his lover on the lips, and when he pulled away and stare at Baekhyun, the glimmer in his eyes are back again, but this time, his lover gave him the smile that he always adore. “Indeed they are a good writers,” Baekhyun whispered as he snuggled in the crook of Chanyeol’s neck.

“I love you, Yeol,” Baekhyun said sleepily before letting himself drift away towards the dream world. Chanyeol smiled fondly and kissed his lover’s messy hair, “I love you, Baek. Goodnight.”

“I hate you for not telling me any sooner, Baek,” Chanyeol whispered to himself, as he felt the pillow getting drenched from his tears. He didn’t know, Baekhyun left him without any warning.

Chanyeol couldn’t sleep and he hated it. He hated the feeling of having an empty space beside him on the bed where he’s currently lying down, because he too knows himself that he couldn’t do anything about it. He couldn’t do anything to bring his lover back and it’s been almost a year, and him staring into the empty space on his bed, and with Baekhyun’s words echoing inside his head.

‘The stars did finish writing our story, and I didn’t expect for them to take you away from me. But at least, I know that you are now with them, and you no longer have to carry the burden that has been weighing you down for a long time. I’ll do my best to live a good life even if I have to live without you in it. I may never truly understand of the reason as to why you didn’t tell it to me, but I understand your sincerity. You may not be beside on this empty space right next to mine, but you will always be within me.’
