Hiya! Longtime listener, first time caller. I was flicking through my wide and beautiful comic strip collection whilst lounging in a giant armchair, puffing on one of those pipes that makes soap bubbles, wearing a monocle, dressing gown, pink puffy slippers. As one does. When I noticed something strange and beautiful:
Is the great Lula Alexandria Hannah Lopez in some way an homage to Alice Otterloop's Halloween costume? Or do great minds simply think alike when it comes to loathsome night fiends ?
As one does, indeed!
this is incredibly funny and cool.
in general, I'm absolutely floored by the quality of Thompson's cartooning - an undeniable and under-appreciated great - but I'm ashamed to admit I've read under a couple of dozen strips. Alas, the first collection sits on my bookshelf so I could easily remedy this.
So it's just a very very very fun coincidence.
However, bizarrely and undeniably, that drawing most certainly is Lula. Yet it's not Lula through any direct reference. Spiritually, in the heart of Lula, that drawing exists. I'm pained to admit I've never drawn a Lula so Lula-y. Perhaps, it is Lula through some cosmic or spiritual interference. One wonders - maybe there is no such thing as coincidence and this creature has taken many forms?? Perhaps it has and will continue to express itself through the greats and decently-alright-cartoonists throughout the ages??

Just wanted to say I love the Gulf and have become slightly obsessed with Blind Alley. I have to ask. Does Acme have anything to do with the jobs of the parents in town, or is that TMI for now?
Thank you thank you!!
I love your question but my lips are sealed. What do YOU think?

The third year of Blind Alley has begun! However, it’s currently only being posted over on my patreon. If you’d like to read it three times a week, as well as a few weeks ahead of the public feed, feel free to subscribe! If not, fear not - the public feed will resume being updated on April 1st (no foolin’)!
The patreon gives me the luxury of being able to prioritize Blind Alley and projects of its ilk. I have a lot of silly side stories I’d love to tell but my main desire is to take this strip daily for a bit once I hit a certain amount of patreon-income per month. Let’s just say I’d love to be able to cover my rent through my patreon and that this goal, surprisingly, feels achievable. In this economy it feels ridiculous to ask for money for something as frivilous as a comic strip but…if you like my work, your $2 a month goes a longway! I’m extremely grateful that anyone reads this strip, let alone is willing to toss some coins occasionally my way.

While writing The Gulf, i found myself listening to a lot of the mid-00’s indie music I listened to while in high school. To celebrate the release of the book, I’ve made a curated playlist that I imagine Oli herself woulda made for her journey to the commune.
Apple Music
Spotify
