I love you all, you’ve done nothing wrong. But I’m begging you. The “kiri” in Kiriona is not pronounced like Siri on your phone. Kiriona is legit just how someone speaking te reo Māori would pronounce “Gideon”. You roll the R a little bit and it should sound a lot more like “Kee-dee-oh-nah” sorry idk how to properly write out phonetics but you get it

#huh #as surprised as when i learned that 'deshaies' is pronounced kind of like 'de-e' #or that levi of aot was NOT called 'levi rivallei' #but that levi and rivalle were both attempts at romanization #and it's the sort of surprise that leaves you slightly 'oh i really got that wrong didn't i?' #but in a weirdly good and deligtful way? #because the world is so big and people do so many different things #and being reminded of that is just #neat #thank you for this post! #i have admittedly never said 'kiriona' out loud but in my head i was NOT saying it right #the locked tomb
