Basically, this is a part of my KaDr (Keef x Dib) au uwu. It’s canon divergence thing, that overanalyzed Keef of all characters, and made him not catoony (Jhonen forgive me,, we have taken another one of your creations and made it angsty,,,)

So my long as Keef analysis/headcanon/fan-interpretation bellow (this comic comes wayyy after a bunch of stuff):

Keef had a habit of forming close attachments to people, but ones that don’t last long. They usually ended on bad terms. This garnered a lot of rumors at the Skool. He did get bullied, but preferred to be quiet about it, optimistically hoping that if he’s nice and happy enough and if people like him, it would stop. He was always the one chasing friendships, other people rarely if ever reached out. He was just average, and with his bad reputation, not many kids wanted to be friends. So when Zim “reached out” he was so overjoyed and wanted to make him happy. But didn’t really have a sense of boundaries. The day Zim ripped out his eyes and gave him robotic ones, he pretty much immediately discarded the memory as it was too traumatic. He kept insisting to himself that nothing happened. Until the squirrel he thought was Zim died and he had to face the reality. But he was still hopeful! But he was scared of approaching Zim on his own, so he decided to first talk to Dib, since he was under the impression that they were friends. And then the events of Return of Keef occur (read the transcript). Keef wants Zim and Dib to be friends, even if they don’t like each other at all. He crosses several boundaries again, making the two of them greatly dislike him. But he once again, decides to ignore the reality of the situation. After Zim and Dib “become friends” and hug, Keef explodes and then regenerates and passes out. After waking up, he realized how much he screwed up again. Zim probably hates him, after all he once again tried to kill him. Dib probably doesn’t like him either.

And all these life threatening events, along with so much rejection, prompted Keef to start going to the school counselor. There he slowly starts to realize that his obsessive personality isn’t the best way to make friends. And that his behavior is unhealthy. This makes him stop, and revaluate pretty much everything. He didn’t try to make friends since that point. Worried that his personality will lead to not only him getting hurt again. But others too.

Eventually once high Skool starts, he sees it as a new leaf. To make himself liked, and be a more stable person. He tries to be more easygoing, less excitable, chill, and this makes him very popular.

But uh-oh. Looks like Zim and Dib are at his Skool too. And they are still fighting. Keef is confused how he ever thought the two of them were friends. He chooses to ignore them He is not getting involved with Zim again.

He doesn’t go to the school counselor anymore, instead he has a therapist, to help him deal with his emotions. One day while he’s in the waiting room at the therapist, he sees Dib. And the two of them stat a small chat.

It was awkward man… Dib and Keef couldn’t interact to save their lives lmao. It was silence at first, before Keef breaks it, and the dialogue from the comic ensues.

Keef apologizes, and tells Dib that their last interaction in middle Skool kind of reshaped his life, and that he is sorry for being such an obsessed creep. They kind of share their experiences a little. About their mental health and current thoughts on Zim, and how he affected them.

Even more headcanon-y stuff:

His eyes stay robotic forever. They don’t cartoon-logic their way back to normal here! X3

He lives with his grandparents who have really bad eyesight, that’s why nobody noticed the robotic eyes.

I know in the actual canon he was supposed to have a brother, but fuck canon man, here he’s an only child. Rolls better with my version of him. UwU

He is mildly autistic (projection time babyyy).
