This is my first #transitiontuesday 😊 I still can’t quite believe how much has changed 🥰 I really felt like it was time to show what HRT has done for me, as I constantly see who I am now and forget how far I’ve come. I can finally say ‘well done dead-name, you’ve got to where you’ve always wanted to be!😊’ I want to share too as we all face #transphobia in different ways and I want to share that being trans isn’t all peaches and rainbows - We take a brunt of hate and I want to share a recent event that happened to me. I had an appointment with my GP to discuss some poor handling of my care, basically awful behaviour with no excuse without going to much into detail. In this meeting this GP made an awful personal comment on my appearance to try and hurt me as he had taken my complaint very personally for no other reason than I can see as simply being transphobic. He would never have made this comment to a cis woman, but no because I’m a #transwoman it’s obviously fine /sarcasm. 😅 The comment my GP made out the blue goes: - ‘I would have recognised you from before transitioning and anyone else would too you don't look that different so we all know it's you, do you actually think you look any different to 'him'? As realistically you need to expect still looking exactly like 'him' people are gonna know it's you whether you like it or not’ - in a nasty arrogant tone sitting back in his seat looking proud of what he said.. basically suggesting that I still look like a man but in woman’s clothing. 😔 It really really hurt, even though I knew it wasn’t true and he was just trying to get a reaction (which he didn’t get a reaction off me luckily for me) it still hurt like hell and has really stuck with me for the last few weeks. 😞 Long story short coming across this picture of me from this time last year has really made me realise that no, my GP was completely wrong and out of line for making such a nasty personal comment on my appearance. And some small-minded village GP is not going to take that away! Actual issues we should discuss about when it comes to pride:

events still being held during a pandemic

the presence of cops, politicians, and military branches in the parade and at other events (and how they prey on LGBT youth for recruitment at these events)

accessibility for disabled LGBT people

events being taken over by non-LGBT identities and corporations

some events and parades platforming TERFs or Drop The T groups

the omnipresence of alcohol at events (related to the corporate take over)

how many LGBT people cannot afford to go to ticketed pride events

the prevalence of the word queer at these events, considering it is still very triggering for many LGBT people

the complete sanitization and de-radicalization of pride so that no one associates it with its actual history and purpose

how pride is being used to sell shit and how pride month is officially just free advertising

how whitewashed the actual events are and i mean this literally–the focus is often on white celebrities performing shows and a white take on Stonewall’s history with very little support for groups of LGBT POC besides lip service like using the Philly Pride flag

The discourse we have every year instead:

“why don’t you wish you had been born cis lol” well first of all being trans has shaped my lived experience and if I was cis I would be a fundamentally different person and even for all my flaws and failings I am myself and I would not trade that for anything. Second of all being trans makes me exponentially sexier then i could ever be if I was cis.
