My Hero Academia Fic Rec #2

Title: face masks and hair clips (neptune_bound)

Relationships: Midoriya Izuku / Todoroki Shouto (minor: Jirou Kyouka / Yaoyorozu Momo)

Genre: Fluff and Humor / Alternate Universe - Mineta Minoru Doesn't Exist / Mutual Pining / endeavor's a+ parenting

Summary:

"Shouto turned and just barely stopped himself from recoiling in horror.

Uraraka was walking towards him, dressed in fuzzy pajama pants and a tank top, but he hardly recognized her. Her hair was pulled back in a short tail, bangs held back with hair clips, and pasted across her face was a mask of what looked like black mud. As she stopped in front of him she smiled, the mask shifting with her face, and it only unnerved Shouto further.

“What’s on your face?” he asked immediately, staring at her."

Shouto tries a face mask for the first time in his life. Enter one Midoriya Izuku, queue subsequent panic.

My Opinion:

Plot: A

Characterisation: A+

Writing style: A

Overall: A

It’s not just this fic that i love,, but the entire series. So, i recommend that if you do read this series, you read all 7 works [as of now] since they kinda correlate with each other

Reasons why you should read this fic:

The writing is great bc it’s detailed and well elaborated without getting too boring

There are some characters that are a little over-exaggerated so they don’t act exactly like they would in the manga/anime, but they are still ok overall

Really brings attention to the darker sides of this anime that isn’t really explained like the anxiety that the students would have & the aftermath of an attack and how they deal with it. It makes the characters seem more real

Friendships that I’ve never even thought about is formed & I love them

It has some fluffy parts that can lead to diabetes (yes, it’s that sweet ;-))

So yeah, it’s a good mix of angst and fluff

Todoroki getting out of his comfort zone is a sight to behold (read?? Idk)

Very very cute tododeku

Voltron Fic Rec #2

Title: Goodnight, Travel Well (europa_report)

Genre: Altean Lance / Balck Paladin Lance / Supernatural Abilities / Angst with happy ending

Summary:

There's something wrong with Lance; his blood feels like it's turning to ice, and the nightmares he has feel more like warnings than dreams. The black lion might help, but it's not responding.

“Quit being stressed?" Lance stuttered, disbelief marring his features. "I’m sorry, can we revisit this weeks events? I’m the new black paladin, Allura’s pregnant, Pidge just got poisoned by a freaking… Chihuahua, the castle took us to a haunted star system and stopped working, and Keith is… okay, where the hell is Keith?” “Oh yeah,” said Pidge, peering at him through puffy red eyes. “You know that unidentified ship that was hanging around and you were all, don’t approach the unidentified ship, well Keith just left the hanger and is approaching the unidentified ship.”

OR When the castle seemingly wormholes itself to a distant star system, the team, with Lance as their newly appointed black paladin, don't think much of it. Until the wormhole returns to take them the next night, and the next, and they find themselves drawn relentlessly back to a dark pocket of space, where the pull of the sole planet and the cave entrenched within it taunt Lance with the awful truth of his family's past.

My opinion:

Plot: A+

Characterization: A

Writing style: A+

Overall: A+

This fic can totally replace anything after season 2

Reasons why you should read this fic :

I am amazed at how well written this fic is. All the made up elements are something i could see being canon in the show

It kinda focuses more on the unexplored territories of this universe & makes it seem so much bigger than it does in the show

Unique plot & insane plot twist (i literally never saw it coming)

Most of the time, this fic is pretty dark & it relies heavily on plot (it’s gr8 & i love it) so be warned if you don’t like that kind of thing

O yeah and the Klance was cute even though i kinda felt like the author kinda forgot about the actual relationships till the middle of the fic?? idk,, just my opinion. It does build up pretty well though

Can we just take a second to appreciate how well the would building is in this fic bc wow

[a/n: So i’m pretty sure almost everyone in this fandom can agree that season 8 sucked. Don’t get me wrong, i still love the characters (always will) & i’m super grateful to everyone who helped bring them back to life & everything, but i’m really disappointed about how the show runners decided to use them. i’m not gonna go into detail about it just in case anyone reading this hasn’t watched it yet (i srsly don’t blame you). But, if you wanna ask me/ tell me/ vent/ scream about season 8,, my asks & dm’s are always open :-)]

Miraculous Ladybug Fic Rec #1

Genre: Reveal fic, Aged-up characters (I think), Canonverse

Summary:

Marinette traced her fingers down the smooth lines of the magazine, a blush creeping to her face. It wasn’t just his toned, muscular body that set her aflame, although that was certainly a bonus. It was his eyes. The way his body appeared, languid like a summers day. His body said relax but his eyes said devour. From the pages of the advertisement, Adrien smouldered in a way that he’d never done during any of his other numerous photographs, and yet she was struck with a familiarity that made her skin tingle, made her swallow with sudden and surprising nervousness. She was sure she’d seen that expression somewhere before. A pair of green eyes looking at her like that, with an unknown question in his hungry gaze. She’d seen that smoulder before.

In which Adrien loses a bet and becomes an underwear model, Marinette loses her mind, and the whole fiasco starts a fire which might lead to the pair discovering their identities.

Love love love the love square (I think I wrote the word love too many times)

Reasons why you should read this fic:

Background history on Ladybug and Chat Noir was pretty interesting so props to the author for thinking about it

Love square still prominent & annoyingly cute in this fic

Characterization on all the characters are pretty accurate

Pacing was great overall with interesting plot. But for some reason, it was so hard to finish this fic after the reveal (my fault for the lack of interest, not that the fic is boring). At the beginning of this fic, I was completely hooked. But I think somewhere around halfway or a quarter way to the ending, I lost interest so fast that I can't even recall what happened after the reveal. But up till that point, I loved this story

I think reveal fics where they finally figure out each other's identity bc Marinette/Adrian looks/acts like Ladybug/Chat Noir is unrealistic because in the show, they don't even have a clue I mean Adrian literally called Marinette thEIR EVERYDAY LADYBUG & DIDN'T EVEN THINK TWICE ABOUT IT (forgive me I'm feeling a little salty abt the season 2 ending) but I'll let this one slide since its more of a 'leaving clues to find me' thing than a ‘revelation’ one where they suddenly know

Marinette defending Chat Noir in front of Adrian is exactly my cup of tea (not that I drink tea but u get it)

Writing is good with not super cringey dialog and plot (a lot of the fics in this fandom are, I'm not gonna lie)

My Hero Academia Fic Rec #1

Title: Under the antique sky (creepingrosemary)

Genre: Future Fic, Kid Fic

Summary:

"Stupid Deku."

Those were the last words Midoriya Izuku heard just before his childhood friend, before Bakugou Katsuki sacrificed his life for him. Now, months later, with All for One gone, those words still echo in his head. And as a full-fledged hero Izuku vows to never be that weak again. But when a newborn baby is abandoned on his doorstep, Izuku wonders what he should do: give it to another family or keep it.

And here's another question he can't seem to answer: why does the baby remind him so much of his dead friend?

My opinion:

Plot: A+

Characterisation: A+

Writing style: A

Overall: A+

A (surprisingly) good mix of cuteness and angst

Reasons why you should read this fic:

I love love love (can you tell how much i love i yet?) the relationship between Deku as a dad and his son

Very slow-burn kind of tododeku but it is super cute since they kinda pretend that they’re not co-parenting a son

Characterisation is pretty accurate; Deku is kind and a rlly good dad (a suprise to absolutely no one) and Todoroki is a little awkward at first but gets a hang of parenting pretty quickly

The plot doesn’t move much at first, focusing more on the characters in the beginning but moves at full speed ahead somewhere along the middle to the end so I think the pacing could have been a little bit better (this is just my opinion pls don’t kill me) but it’s to be expected when introducing new characters

I like how the author mentioned things like Deku’s dad & added their own lovable original character (whom i am very attached to btw)

I think this fic is underappreciated and deserves more recognition

Voltron Fic Rec #1

Title: So Here's what You're Not Going to Do (BreakTheDawn)

Relationships: General / Team Relationship

Rating: Not Rated (but i’d say maybe teen bc of the swear words)

Genre: Langst

Summary:

He lets them take out the frustrations on him. Encourages it really, because people need an outlet for their anger, and Lance has always been the best at making people angry at him.

(And if his heart twinges a little every time he has to let someone be particularly mean to him, then he just has to remember that this is what he's good at. What he's good for.)

But Lance is an older brother, and an uncle, and a younger brother. He learned sometimes keeping people means sacrificing his own feelings for a bit. He's been taught that he can't always let his feelings take a back seat though. After all, what happens if the rock falls apart?

So, while Lance is always prepared to be the enemy on any given day, there are certain days and certain things that he will not let fly.

Or,

What happens when Lance is sick of his teammate's shit.

My opinion:

Plot: -

Characterization (is thats a thing? imma make it a thing): A+

Writing style: A

Overall: A+

Very heartwarming fic that made me cry (that doesn’t happen often)

Reasons why you should read this fic :

The writing of this fic really captures the way i think Lance really feels in the most devastating way

It addresses things that should have been addressed a long time ago in canon because honestly i love Lance and the team treats him like shit sometimes so this was a long time coming

He deserves recognition and appreciation for the things he has to go through to make the team feel better ((Lol this feels like a Lance appreciation post but you get the point))

Coran and Hunk are the real MVP’s of this fic and you have no idea how happy that makes me

There is basically no plot in this fic since its mostly (what i think is) a chatacter study so it wouldn’t be fair to judge it in that category

Reasons why you should read this fic :

Characterization is ON POINT. Like,, I can’t imagine that canon Yuuri would do any differently if he were in that situation

Clear character development and great pacing. Yuuri’s character development is slow and subtle, but it’s there & i love that. The story doesn’t move too fast and accents on character development and plot respectively when necessary

It is literally a masterpiece

The sexual tension holy wow

Ties with what happens in canon SO WELL LIKE ASHVKJCHVDJHSV

Honestly, out of all the fics I’ve read from any fandom, this one would be my favourite just because of how impressed at how well she nailed writing Yuuri and Victor. Like srsly
