#use! the! library!#so passionate about them they offer so many amazing services and so many people are shocked when I talk about them#for instance: a library in my city's system offers 3d printing for a reasonable fee#I've printed great spinning tools for a fraction of what it would cost to buy them#also printed a poster I designed my dad for Christmas for cheap from the same library - came out great#and paying for it supports the library too!#also: proctoring exams! so much more relaxed than using an online service#and every time I pay the proctor fee I feel ok about it bc it supports the library#interlibrary loans!! research databases!#my local library also allows you to borrow books from local universities (they send them to your local library)#such on and so forth - yay libraries#also while I dread the day that physical media is taken away from us - for now there are so many dvds (and video games!!) at the library#dvds are another thing that I have recently had someone be surprised when I suggested it - like she knew but she never thought to borrow on

"Don't use Libby because it costs libraries too much, pirate instead" is such a weird, anti-patron, anti-author take that somehow manages to also be anti-library, in my professional librarian-ass opinion.

It's well documented that pirating books negatively affects authors directly* in a way that pirating movies or TV shows doesn't affect actors or writers, so I will likely always be anti-book piracy unless there's absolutely, positively no other option (i.e. the book simply doesn't exist outside of online archives at all, or in a particular language).

Also, yeah, Libby and Hoopla licenses are really expensive, but libraries buy them SO THAT PATRONS CAN USE THEM. If you're gonna be pissed at anybody about this shitty state of affairs, be pissed at publishing companies and continue to use Libby or Hoopla at your library so we can continue to justify having it to our funding bodies.

One of the best ways to support your library having services you like is to USE THOSE SERVICES. Yes, even if they are expensive.

This is my first time dipping into horror art. This piece was more difficult than I expected. There were a lot symmetrical structures which I found challenging to paint while maintaining a proper contrast between light and dark. In the end, I think it turned out alright
