Movie Review - The Marvels With Some General MCU Musings
The Marvels
I’m late to the party for a lot of reasons, but I finally got to watch The Marvels tonight. I loved it! It’s not in the top tier of MCU movies for me, but solidly in the middle. The main issue is one that’s existed in the MCU for some time – a forgettable villain in Dar-Benn.
However, the interplay between the three leads (Brie Larson as Captain Marvel/Carol Danvers, Iman Vellani as…

Annie and the AI - Game Review
I was given the privelege of playing Annie and the AI, by NoSleepGames, when codes were offered to streamers and content creators. It’s sort of a visual novel combined with a puzzle game. You play as Esme, an AI being developed by Annie (voiced by the talented Katy Bentz). As you complete various puzzles, you encounter bits and pieces of Annie’s life, which serves to both introduce you to Annie…

Sea of Stars
During the recent Steam Next Fest, there was a demo released for Sea of Stars. It’s a retro-inspired turn-based RPG, and I had a heck of a lot of fun playing it. So what does “retro-inspired” mean? Basically, Sea of Stars looks like it would fit right in alongside Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Secret of Mana or Final Fantasy VI. The gameply skips over a bunch of the drudgery, though.…

Explain This - Extraction Shooters
Welcome to the first in a series of posts, where I explain the things that your kids may be geeking out about. Just the other day, Sony held their “Playstation Showcase” where some new titles were announced. One of the most intriguing, for gamers of a certain age, was Bungie’s Marathon:
In marketing material, the new Marathon is described as a “sci-fi PvP extraction shooter”, but what does that…

i am not joking we need to force teach cooking in schools. like. it is an essential thing for survival. do you know how easy it is to make things if you know even the bare bones shit about how cooking works. we need to teach teenagers how far you can take an onion and some other veggies it''s sad that people grow up not knowing how to prepare literally anything. and i'm not talking about oh this home ed class taught me how to make chicken nuggets at home i'm talking about learning the balancing of sweetness and acidity and saltiness and bitterness and shit like that and techniques and oil temperatures and how meats cook. it needs to be taught because it's literally not even that difficult and it matters so much

Movie Review - Black Adam
Let's talk about #BlackAdam, and where WB goes from here
*sigh* How can DC/Warner Brothers can find a bunch of attractive, talented, charismatic people, and make a movie that is so aggressively mediocre? Black Adam is a HUGE missed opportunity, one that Warner keeps making over and over again.
Thousands of years ago, the kingdom of Kahndaq (a stand-in for Egypt) was ruled by an oppressor, and their champion, Teth-Adam, defeated him. But not before the…

Watching deep space 9 now instead of in the 90s adds an extra layer to the experience. You can feel the non-linearity of time. A script written in the 90s about a character centuries in the future who lives a story in the 50s about events that are relevant also now, it has always been important it has always been human

Comic Book Review - Sentient
Comic Book Review for #Sentient, by Jeff Lemire and Gabriel Walta
I was cruising NetGalley for new stuff to read, and came across Sentient (Deluxe Edition) by writer Jeff Lemire and artist Gabriel Walta, with letters by Steve Wands. The names drew my eye immediately, as I know Lemire’s writing from following up the legendary Hawkeye run by Fraction/Aja/etc., and Gabriel Walta’s art from The Vision. The resulting comic is a slick sci-fi adventure adventure that…

In Praise of Kai Winn
In Praise of Kai Winn
Hollywood lost a wonderful actress not too long ago, with Louise Fletcher passing away at home at 88 years of age. While for many she was best known for her Oscar-winning role as Nurse Ratched in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, we nerds loved to hate her Winn Adami, the religious leader of the Bajorans. It’s wild that Star Trek: Deep Space Nine was blessed with not so many amazing villains…

Not Everything in the MCU is For You
Not Everything in the MCU is For You
When the Marvel Cinematic Universe first kicked off with 2008’s Iron Man, there was nothing like it. A brand new universe filled with updated versions of our favorite comic book characters, played by some of Hollywood’s hottest (or soon-to-be hottest) actors. It’s easy to forget how different it was back at the beginning than it is now with Disney+. You got one, maybe two movies in a year, and…

Babylon 5 and Philosophy - Believers
Thinking about this for days...Babylon 5 and Philosophy - Believers #babylon5 #scifi
On a whim I decided to start watching the original Babylon 5 again since the big announcement. I’ve been hesitant to do so, in case it didn’t hold up to my teenage memories. I’m closing in on half-way through the first season, and I needn’t have worried. Despite the wonky CGI and hammy acting, the show can still surprise you and hit you in the feels.
Believers is the 10th episode of the first…

Babylon 5 - Are We Excited?
#Babylon5 - Are We Excited?
It’s finally happening. Babylon 5 is getting a “from-the-ground-up reboot” at the CW. Original series creator J. Michael Straczynski (JMS from here on out) is back producing and showrunning.
https://twitter.com/straczynski/status/1442621159221043202?s=20
Honestly, read his thread there, I’ll wait. He talks a lot about how he’s changed as a creator, how the new show will be different because of…

Marvel's Black Widow Problem
Marvel’s Black Widow Problem
We watched Black Widow a little while ago, and it was fine! Solid action, and the new characters were great. Especially Yelena. There’s just one problem with the movie – there’s no reason for it to exist in the MCU, except for setting up other shit.
The character of Black Widow is currently dead (and with the issues going on with Scarlet Johannsson and Disney, she’s probably staying dead), so…
