Hi! I was wondering if you could do me a little favor. Can you tell me how to say the following phrase in Russian: "You are a little whore with a dirty mouth". Sorry for the rudeness, it's for a novel I'm writing. Thank you.
No problem! It would be something like:
Ты маленькая шлюха, и рот у тебя поганый.
If a dirty mouth is about one's speech, or choice of words, I would suggest this instead:
Ты маленькая шлюха, и язык у тебя поганый.
Pro tip (as one writer to another): delete your browser history :))

Дайте человеку хлеб - и он сыт весь день (Give a man bread and he's full all day long)
Дайте человеку арбуз - и он ссыт всю ночь (Give a man watermelon and he pisses all night)
There is a pun here, the two words sound absolutely the same: - сыт - is full. - ссыт - pisses This is what makes it very funny in Russian.
Vocabulary: сытый (short form: сыт, сыта, сыты) - to be full ссать - to piss (colloquial)

Hey everyone!
Lately, I've been feeling a bit lost with my Russian language blog. Given the current situation, it's hard to see the bigger picture and the purpose of teaching this beautiful language.
But then, I had an amazing conversation with one of my students, and with other students, too, and it reminded me of the joy of cultural exchange and language learning.
That got me thinking... what do YOU love about learning Russian? Why do you follow this blog? What kind of posts resonate most with you?
Your insights would be invaluable right now. Hearing your perspectives and the reasons you enjoy learning Russian would be a huge source of inspiration.
Let me know in the comments below!
P.S. No pressure at all, but if you have any specific post ideas or topics you'd like to see explored, feel free to share those too!

privet evgenia! do you speak any of the other languages in Russia, such as the Siberian one you mentioned just now?
Unfortunately, no. Not that Siberian indigenous languages were widely in use or taught, not in the Altai region. There were no courses of Altai languages in my university. Though my paternal family is from rural Altai area, they all speak Russian (not without some regional accent though). My friends who are partially indigenous, don't know their languages either.
The story of Russian colonization of Siberia is waiting to be told.

Traditional music of the indigenous peoples of Siberia is reaching a new level: Xzibit remixed Otyken original track «Belief»
Unusual, but refreshing and weirdly authentic. In case you wonder, the Siberian guys sing in Chulym language.

Thank you! This is beautiful!
I love the vagueness of natural languages - I believe, this is what makes us humans
Motivation to learn languages?
Is learning new languages becoming a lost and forgotten skill because of the AI tools?
Now that you have automatics translation tools for practically everything, and even zoom meetings have on-the-fly interpretation options, what motivates you to learn languages?

Oh, wow, Nuria is back!
Nuria, a bright and beautiful lady from Barcelona, studied Russian in Moscow, and, after returning back to Spain, ran a channel on YouTube in Russian just for fun and for language practice.
When Russia attacked Ukraine, Nuria stopped blogging (and, God, I can understand her decision), but a week ago, she resumed posting, and I am very glad that she did. Her challenge is to prove (to self, first of all) that loving a language doesn't mean loving the government of the country where that language is most spoken.
Her videos are extremely inspirational and insightful for Russian learners. Subscribe to her channel if you haven't yet and support her work - I guess, she needs it now more than ever.

A manager, a lawyer, a translator, and a journalist walk into a bar, and a barman says: "Hey, Tony, four degrees and still no job, yeah?"
(Well, in Russian, the joke really works, but in English, not so much.)
