Signups for Tolkien Secret Santa 2020 are officially OPEN!

Before signing up, make sure you have thoroughly read our Guide. Once you’re all set, head over to the Join page to sign your preferences onto our handy dandy Google Form.

Signups close November 20th - do reblog and spread the word!

Please be aware of the two biggest rule changes this year:

We have a hard deadline of December 26th for all gifts before they are forfeit to pinch-hitters, and a hard deadline of December 30th for all gifts. See the Guide for more details including possible exceptions and other extenuating circumstances. 

We will not be accepting email signups. As the exchange has grown in scale, communication - between participants and where necessary mediated through mods - has had to become more streamlined. In the previous exchange, 97% of participants signed up using Tumblr only, so we’re returning to the original scope of this event as happening on a singular platform. It is super easy to set up a blog to participate - contact the mods if you need any help with this! 

You’ll also spy something new on both pages - because we are extremely excited to share a special addition to this edition of TSS that’s designed to make the end of a really difficult year brighter, happier, and more wholesome…

…the Tolkien Secret Santa Advent Calendar!

The idea behind this is to give all of our participants something nice and motivating to wake up to every morning in the lead-up to the Secret Santa reveals on December 24th. Signups will occur concurrently with the usual Secret Santa signups, but will close earlier (November 11th). Check out the special Advent Calendar section (also linked in the Guide) for more information.

An important note: although inspired by a Christmas tradition, the TSS Advent Calendar - like the exchange itself - remains non-denominational and secular. It’s just another excuse to bring each other more joy during the festive season :)

But starting in January. The manga is starting up again apparently!

These are leaked info as far as I know, take with a grain of salt.

So January 2021, Jump+ will resume serialization of Hetalia!

Spring 2021 will start an anime based on World Stars.

I did a google search and it said that you invented death??? is this true?

It is true. 

Long ago, people lived forever, and when they were done with everything they had wanted to do, they would take a bus to Bognor Regis, on the English south coast, and sleep in small seaside bed and breakfast hotels. They would spend the days walking along the seafront, possibly crunching along the shingle. Hundreds of them to begin with, but eventually millions, and then millions of millions. Needless to say, Bognor Regis became uncomfortably crowded, and there was nowhere to buy an ice cream or even a postcard. All of the Bed and Breakfasts had “No Vacancies” signs up. 

I was only a boy, but I could see that this was untenable. “What if,” I suggested, “We make it so that instead of going to Bognor by bus, people who have finished just stop existing, and rot down. And what if we make it so it’s always been like this?”

“You are seven years old,” they said to me. “It will be many years before you take the bus to Bognor. Why do you let this bother you?”

“Because this is not tenable,” I told them. It was a big word I was proud of knowing and I used it whenever I could. “By that time the town will be so full that I will have to sleep on the pebbled beach at night, or even in the road. It will not be a good thing.”

I showed them my drawings, which included suggestions for how death would work, and stressed that for it to be successful it would also need to apply to everything else as well. Not just people.

“Even cats?” they asked.

“Even cats,” I told them.

“The cats won’t like that,” they said. But the cats thought it was going to be great, and explained to us that they had plans for the mice and the birds under the proposed system, and my invention caught on. These days almost nobody remembers what it was like before.

Also, there’s a character called Death in SANDMAN. I made her up, and Mike Dringenberg made up the way that she looks.

at what point will amazon realize how late to the party they are when it comes to tolkien-related smut and stop touting their almost certainly bland, shoehorned-in, exhaustingly heterosexual game of thrones copycat sex scenes as if it’s some daring, subversive new thing nobody’s seen before.

like their audience for this show is going to mainly consist of two groups: people who have no interest in sex/nudity in their tolkien and consider this a detriment, and people who have already seen it done better by the silmarillion fandom. neither of said demographics benefits from this in any way.
