Things Nightingale is effed up about
Guilt over notĀ ā€œsavingā€ David; guilt for - rightfully - blaming David for the Ettersberg operation in the first place.
Guilt about the people on the other side that he killed; guilt about all the people - his men, his comrades - that he didnā€™t prevent from being killed.
Anger at having to take responsibility for the Folly after the war.
Anger at having to take on a role he was neither trained nor prepared for; guilt for fearing he was not up to the task.
Never being able to leave the Folly, the building where his boyfriend killed himself, because of the Black Library, which he didnā€™t want to retrieve and now must guard.
Staying in the Folly, alone, aside from Molly, for almost seventy years.
Things Nightingale is NOT effed up about
Spending a lot of money on suits.
Being gay.

ā€œNightingaleā€™s job at Ettersburg was to cover the extraction, and by god thatā€™s just what he did. But even he couldnā€™t save the men who were cut off at the camp. He made sure the wounded were on the gliders with the the Library, and he gave up his own place so that David could escape.ā€
ā€œDavid Mellenby got out? I thought he was killed in action.ā€
ā€œTook his own life, sadly. Locked himself in his lab and shot himself in the head. Wasnā€™t the only one, certainly not the only one.ā€

So, I did some tentative outlining for the Witcher AU, Toss a Coin to Your Wizard, and have 20 chapters for the main timeline right now.
Which means 20 chapters, 19 interludes and an epilogue.
Oh this is going to be huge

I love this for so many reasons, which I don't want to hide in the tags:
Nightingale giving Abigail boxing lessons (obviously) but he is doing it so respectfully and taking her seriously
Him acknowledging the privilege he has
Abigail quoting Bruce Lee
Abigail wanting to do more and Nightingale needing to pace her
That paragraph where Abigail helps Nightingale up
The last sentence is such a wonderful finish
I saw this wonderful artwork done by @jarrows and couldnā€™t help myself but to rear my head out of self-imposed hiatus and put it to work.
Thomas gives Abigail her first boxing lesson. About 3000 words of gen fluff feelings continued under the cut with only a very, tiny, slight tinge of the occasional angst. Set post The Furthest Station (but barely any spoilers here for anything, really.)
ā€”-
ā€œExcited?ā€ asked Thomas.
ā€œYes!ā€ replied Abigail, almost immediately.
Only for a brief moment, he glanced up from his hands to get a glimpse of Abigailā€™s face.
He was currently occupied with bandaging her knuckles in the correct crisscrossing pattern with some high-fibre cotton wraps; normally heā€™d be able to apply them standing on his head, but he was used to the broader and more rugged structure of a grown-up manā€™s palm. With Abigailā€™s rather delicate build, he had to be careful not to put too much compression onto her bloodstream, and to avoid unnecessary folds. Far too often he had experienced skin rubbed sore and numbed fingers due to incorrect binding technique, and heā€™d be vigilant to circumvent Abigail carrying away any marks as long as they were avoidable.

This is perfect šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜
Seagale - a Suffolk sojourn
I am in the process of writing a new post-FV Seagale get-together fic, and I appear to have written a complete long weekend out of town, which is kind of self-contained. Ā
Itā€™s fluff, and, out of context, unearned fluff - there is darkness (or at least, less-lightness) in the rest of the fic, but here is all sunshine and niceness.Ā  And whilst this will, ultimately, form part of a wider story, Iā€˜ve added a (slightly bizarre) postscript here which allows it to stand alone.Ā  Ish.
Only point to note is that, in thisĀ ā€˜verse, both Nightingale and Seawoll can speak a bit of Danish - the former from his time in the FCO before the war, and the latter from a penfriend he had in Holsted as a child.
No spoilers, and no warnings apart from the usual: swearing and bearing.Ā  (Oh and thereā€™s 6k+ words of it.)

So, David and Alex had a relationship
(Which means they all fucked each other at some point)

Seagale - Kew addendum
Please have a short - extremely fluffy (even by my standards) - scribble which kind of tags on to the end of the Kew Gardens fic in the ao3 Seagale series.Ā  It was prompted only, really, by the fact that Seawoll says in the main fic that he has plans for later the same evening, and the question: would he, or would he not, cancel them? (h/t @coraine)
Fairly obviously, this wonā€™t make any sense at all without having read the main story.Ā  But if you have, and fancy it, then have at it.
No warnings except for hand-kissing and niceness.

OMG YES!
toss a coin to your wizard
(this is one of those fanfic ideas, which have been bouncing around in my head and Iā€™d rather much read than write)
Nightingale is renowned witcher/monster hunter, capable of great combat magic (said combat magic being something only a few wizards have ever learned, especially after the School of Casterbrook was destroyed, of which Nightingale was an alumni)
go on, just imagine Nightingale with a sword - white shirt, sleeves rolled up, hair slightly muzzled, slight smirk on his face, ready to face any monster
Peter an aspiring wizard is very much interested in said combat magic and begins to follow Nightingale like a duckling, ready to SCIENCE said combat magic because every other magic is slow and requires so much work and how can Nightingale simply throw monsters around like it is nothing
He annoys Nightingale until he gets some answers, then some more answers, then wants to see said magic close up so Nightingale lets him tag along
Peter is also not going to sing about Nightingale, but he is going to write essays, proper scientific essays, which apparently begin to cover their travelling expenses quite well
Molly is either being a shapeshifter prefering to live as a horse or the strange travelling companion turned servant Nightingale acquired as he broke a curse on her
Either: Nightingale runs across an old aquitance named David Mellenby occasionally,of whom Peter is not sure whether they had a love affair or are still in one because apparently feelings are difficult especially if you involve a dschinn and horny wizards - and maybe there is also a touch of jealousy in there whenever he (Peter) thinks of Mellenby and Nightingale
Or: Nightingale and Peter find themselves more often than not running across one very cross military/militia leader named Alexander Seawoll (who gets constantly pissed off how many monsters he comes across and why the hell is he only ever helped by Nightingale? who happens to be stupidly good at what his does?? and good-looking???) and who is supported by a druid called Beverly Brooks
Anway, what I would love is a witcher!AU for the rol fandom ā€¦ like more than is probably healthy

Link
Pairing: Thomas Nightingale/Alexander Seawoll Ā
Rating: Explicit
Warnings: None apply
Summary: The constant downpour outside is loud against the windows of his room, especially with the winds pressing it harder and harder against the bricks of the folly. The rain has been a constant in the last hours, the only tangible element in a storm of events. But while there is a storm raging outside, there is quiet between the two as they undress, leaving soaked clothes on the floor, neither of them speaking, an apprehension filling the air that he doesnā€™t know how to disperse.
Words: 2.107
Notes: Second fic in as many days - Iā€™m inspired! Also, not that much plot, just emotions and smut.

7k of angst though? Very little fluff as of now? And only the hints of ot3? There is still a lot which needs to be ironed out.
(it is also not false value compliant at this point)

If I keep it magic-free I might manage to write that one faster actually because then I don't have to think about word-building and fitting it nicely into canon. So let's go for that route :)
@margot-l-escargot I don't think I can pull off both. Not with the direction I was planning on taking the magic/horror stuff in (emphasis would be more on the horror).
Oh, David coming back to life with established Seagale.

If it is something you would like to read as well, I'm working on a fic with David and established Seagale, but can't decide whether to keep fairly magic-free and centered on their relationship (or rather how an old love appearing might be troublesome especially if said love happens to be friendly, cheeky and handsome) or fully embrace horror and keeping it focused mainly on Seawoll
(Either way this one might take a while though)
Oh, David coming back to life with established Seagale.
