Hello! I really enjoy ROTM, but have one thing to wonder; does it take place only pre-calamity or post? Can’t wait for the next chapter!
Hullo!!
It's both pre and post-calamity!! The first 25 chapters are pre-calamity, chapters 26, 27 and 28 (are probably going to be the longest chapters if I can actually write them) are post-calamity, and chapter 29 is bonus chapters+setting stuff up for sequel(s).
Thanks so much for reading and your question!! I'm glad you've been enjoying :D

If you're still doing prompts for the chain as mythical creatures, may I request Wind?
Tumblr media
Changling Wind!! He doesn't really gjve off changling vibes yet, hoping that changes when I render him.
Changling because y'know how Wind is often head-canoned to not have the hero's spirit? And forced the goddesses to make him a hero? So it's kind of a parallel to how changelings work maybe?
I made him look too old but shhh
Idk I'm gonna go finish the Ravio sketch now.
(Would still appreciate more suggestions for mythical creatures for the boys!)

I drew mer-legend, now here's Faerule in a bottle!! :D
I struggled with the lighting of this drawing so so much - ultimately the only reason it turned out as good as it did is thanks to my friends who were willing to play along with my bullshit in the middle of the night and help me actually make it look good. So much bs went into making this. So much bs. (As in, I was the one bs-ing.)
But hey it looks good so shhh
I'm still taking suggestions for what other mythical creatures I should draw the boys as (because I still only have ideas for a couple of them, not all), so if you have a thing where you're like "Oh I've aways imagined Wind as like, a phantom or something idk," and you're willing to share, I'd greatly appreciate!! (The only characters I have ideas for rn are Twi, Time, and ofc the Ravio sketch I posted a couple days ago.)
Oh also!! The little cheek thingies and antennae I took from @grooviestsadpapaya 's sketch of triple threat because I love it so much, and also that's what kick-started my inspiration to draw this one in the first place.
But please take my Faerule I love Faerule so much now I'm gonna go do my hw due in like two hours

I was thinking about what you shared re the Twilight Realm being the "Shadow World" (影の世界) in Japanese and I have a niche language question if that's ok: my online Japanese dictionary is telling me that kage/影 means both shadow and reflection, whereas in English "shadow" is more closely associated with "dark". So now I'm wondering: is 影の世界 best understood as a dark world or as a mirror world? If that makes sense? Sorry to be a language nerd in your DMs lol
No worries!! It's fun to talk about this stuff so please please ask me more if you have more questions.
I don't know what dictionary you're using - and it probably depends on context too, but from what I'm aware, 「影」 definitely is just shadow. Reflection would be 「反射」, or hansha. I've never heard anyone ever use the word 「影」 to refer to reflection, like, ever? Like, when talking about one's shadow in a casual setting kage is the word we use.
So yeah, in this instance I think it's definitely not a mirror world, and more of a dark world or literally, "Shadow World."
If it were a mirror-world, they'd probably describe it more how they describe Lorule in the Encyclopedia: 「ハイラルの裏側」 (hairaru no uragawa), or "the backside of Hyrule." The word 「裏」 ura here is the same word we'd use to be like "turn your paper to the backside" during a test, or like, the tail-side of a coin. In other words, Lorule and Hyrule are two sides of the same coin, and Lorule is specifically referred to in that kind of manner.
So yeah! Twilight Realm is definitely a Dark World, of sorts, rather than a Mirror World.

Unsure if you are still taking prompts but if so, Ravio? If not feel free to delete :)
Tumblr media
You suggested Cervitaur Ravio - and since I didn't really have the motivation to finish my Faerule in a bottle drawing, here he is!! As just a sketch right now of course. (and I'm sure there's something wrong with it rn that I'll fix later)
Ahaha damnit now I have two illustrations I need to finish
(also mer legend is there in the bottom just a bit because i love ravioli yes)
I still need ideas for the other LU boys actually, since I want to draw them all as mythical creatures. I'm doing Hyrule as a faerie, and then Twilight as a Twili... and little to no idea for the others. If you've got any suggestions, I'd greatly appreciate!!
(Oh also I love how @churomo draws Ravio's hair so so much so I basically just copied their style for his hair for this piece whoops. Literally it's so cute I love sm)

(Hi despite my small tantrum I do actually answer the questions so please forgive me of my bullshit :D )
Do you see this?? Do you see this?? The color coding of the Zelda books LIED to me. This is a travesty.
(Also sorry in advance for terrible photo quality, my phone is a Nokia.)
Tumblr media
See this?? See Masterworks? It's the same color (White) as Creating a Champion, the English version of the book. All is good.
Tumblr media
Next we have these two: Hyrule Enclopedia, which is blue in both languages. Lovely. Next is the green one. Given that Hyrule Historia in English is green, I was like, okay!! The one that I have must be Historia!!!
It's not. It's Hyrule Art and Artifacts :D
And Hyrule Historia in Japanese... guess what color it is. Guess. I dare you.
(For those of you who guessed red, congrats!! You get a prize. Send me a sketch request or something idk.)
Moral of the story is that I'm a dumbass and I actually need to like, read stuff that's clearly on the cover, so yayy!!
I can definitely still answer your questions though!!
Especially since quite a bit of it is stuff that's also contained in the Hyrule Encyclopedia.
Tumblr media
Page 25 of Hyrule Encyclopedia is all about the Dark World. It's called 「闇の世界」 (yami no sekai) which quite literally translates to "The World of Darkness." So very literal translation here. 「闇」 (yami) means "darkness," 「世界」 (sekai) means world, 「の」 (no) is a particle that in this instance means "of". So yeah, "world of darkness". That's a translation true to the original.
The Light World/Surface, aren't really mentioned as much - but they are mentioned when comparing the two worlds together - they call Hyrule 「光の世界」 (hikari no sekai) when pairing it against the Dark World - which quite literally means "World of Light." 「光」 (hikari) is light, and the other symbols mean the same as above.
Tumblr media
Page 20 of Hyrule Encyclopedia is an introduction to the Sacred Realm and the sages. 「聖地」 (seichi) here is the word used for Sacred Realm, and quite literally means "sacred place." The symbol 「聖」 (sei) on it's own here simply means "holy", "sacred", while the symbol 「地」 (chi) literally just means "place" or "land" or whatever. It can also mean "world", so the "realm" translation is still pretty accurate. Very literal translation again.
Tumblr media
Now onto the Depths!! It's kind of ridiculous that I had to go back in-game to try and remember what they're called, given I've never played TOTK in English, but... when it comes to writing fanfiction I read and write in English, so it's the English names that ended up sticking with me despite never seeing them in game. (That was a fun interaction to have once though - when my friend told me "You need to go to Lookout Landing first" and I was like "wtf is Lookout Landing??")
Tumblr media
If we look at the Depths on the map (please ignore how much of it is missing, I got burnt out from lack of story), it's called 「地底」 (chitei) which quite literally just means "under ground." 「地」 (chi) here once again means ground ( we see this kanji a lot), while 「底」 (tei in this word, but on it's own usually read as soko) means the bottom. I actually see this kanji used more often when talking about the bottom of the ocean: 「海の底」 (umi no soko). But this is like, the bottom of the ground. So "The Depths" is a pretty good translation. Perhaps not as literal a translation as the other ones, but still works very well!! Personally I'd say "The Depths" gives off the vibe much better than "Chitei" does.
Tumblr media
Now for the last one!! The Twilight/Twili Realm!! This one is actually the most interesting, I think. I'm reading through the two pages dedicated to it in the Encyclopedia (pages 26-27), and what's interesting is that never once are the people nor the world referred to as "Twili". (Which would be written as トワイライ, or トワイリ in Japanese, depending on pronunciation.) They due talk a bit about Twilight itself, saying that the world exists in a beautiful period similar to that of twilight, or evening - and evening would be more accurate here because the word they use is 「夕暮れ」 (yuugure) instead of 「黄昏」 (tasogare). Both words could be translated to Twilight, but tasogare is the most direct translation, in my experience. (This is not according to a dictionary but rather just my experience in using and hearing the word.)
The difference here is that the Twilight Realm is not referred to as the Twilight Realm, but rather 「影の世界」 (kage no sekai) or Shadow World. I think that's a really interesting difference. 「影」 (kage) means shadow (and the rest of the symbols are again same as above), so this world is the World of Shadows. What's the most interesting to me though is what the Twili people are also referred to. They're not the Twili People, or Shadow People, or Shadow Race, no - they're the Shadow Clan. 「影の一族」, or kage no ichizoku.
There's a number of different ways to race in Japanese: 「民」 tami, 「民族」 minzoku, to name a common/well-known few. But they don't call it that. They call it 「一族」 ichizoku, which often refers to clans. And not clans like the Yiga Clan (that's a completely different word), these clans generally are familial clans. Like, say there's a family that's passed down it's traditions for generations and generations, and is well-known for their traditions? That's an ichizoku. The Imperial Family of Japan is an ichizoku. (Normally we don't call them that, we just call them the 「天皇家」 tennouke, but the term can still be correctly applied to them.)
So the Twili aren't the Shadow People. They're the Shadow Clan.
Tumblr media
It kind of ties in to how Midna often chills in Link's shadow during his quest. She hangs out in his shadow because she's a shadow person, from the shadow world - the world that exists to be Hyrule's shadow.
Unlike Lorule, meant to be Hyrule's Mirror, or the Depths, meant to the world below, or just, y'know, every other iteration of an alternate world Nintendo's pulled out of it's ass - the Twilight Realm is Hyrule's Shadow.
And maybe that was obvious to everyone just from the English versions, but like - it kind of changes my perception of the Twili, just a bit.
Hope this was interesting to you!! :D
(Unrelated moral of the story at the end of all this is don't put your precious books on the ground where you, a person who walks into walls and doorframes at least one or twice a day can accidentally kick them, and don't try and hold multiple of them at once because then you'll drop and damage them on your fucking computer like a dumbass. Just don't do it, kids.)
Hi hi!! I actually have a couple Japanese copies of Hyrule Historia and the like - and I've always wanted to compare to sdd if there are any differences in translation!! Are there any pages you might be interested in comparing?
Ooh, sure thing!!
How about these little sections from the bottom of pages 96 and 97 of the English version? I'm curious about the original words used to describe the Light/Surface and Dark/Under Worlds, as well as "Sacred Realm". Also "the Depths" or "Twilight Realm" if you know what those are called in the Japanese version.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you have any other pages you'd like to compare, feel free to ask!

Do you have revalink fic recs?
Oh do I ever. (Please don't take the numbers that I use too seriously, they're not to really judge the quality of work or anything it's just level of enjoyment for me and my particular tastes)
My favorite Revalink fic of all time is Pinesong by aperplexingpuzzle!! Honestly it's just an absolutely amazing work, and personally I think it's one of the greatest post-calamity Revalink stories written. Link and Revali bond on Vah Medoh after Revali's been freed and exists as a spirit, and while Link struggles through the rest of his adventure. Absolutely recommend, 10/10.
Finding Link by Umbreonix is another one I'd absolutely recommend. It's so silly and just - the characterization of Link and Revali is so fun. Link goes missing after the defeat of Calamity Ganon, and it's up to Revali to find him and potentially bring him back. Honestly Umbreonix's other Revalink work Beating about the bush is also phenomenal - that one's unfinished, but it's also great if you want to read something silly. It's a modernized/human version of Hyrule, which is super interesting as well. All That Glitters is hilarious as well. Recommend them all around 8.5/10.
Linger On by ICanFlyHigher is one I genuinely loved as well. It's been a while since I've read it, but I do know that the vivid descriptions of combat and fighting, and just - the immersion of it is so impressive. So I'd really really recommend this one. It's basically just Botw, but you're really put in Link shoes + that extra touch of Revalink. Again, haven't read it in a while, but 9/10 recommendation from what I remember.
I Lost Myself by self_indulgent_authorship is amazing as well. I love reading from Revali's perspective, and just - the take on Link and Revali getting to know each other after Link's lost his memory is so interesting and refreshing. I wouldn't recommend it if you don't like a bit of Zelda-bashing, but I think this fic handles it well and it didn't feel as if it were over the top or anything. 9/10 recommendation.
Snow filled days by SharkPinata is a great one if you're just down for a fun time!! The author kind of took a concept/idea and ran with it, and the plot grew later - and it shows, a bit, but honestly that's part of the fun with this fic. A great thing about it is you can also see the author's writing style improve over time as they write (I desperately hope that the same can be said about my fics too), so it's fun in that aspect of well. The concept is that Link isn't a knight, and just lives in Selkie's Spot in Hebra - where Revali regularly comes to visit him because they're each other's only friends. 7.5/10 recommendation.
Shades of Blue also by self_indulgent_authorship is just fucking amazing. It's the normal botw journey, but you get so much more intricate lore and flashbacks than the OG game - one where Link and Revali knew each other before they became champions - and it's so so so so good. I genuinely think it's one of the greatest Breath of the Wild fics out there, regardless of Revalink. 10/10 recommendation.
Come Morning Light by misscoconi is great as well!! I haven't read it in a long while but I do know it's one of my favorites. It's very sweet - and it's where Link and Revali begin a shared sleeping arrangement. (Meet Me Halfway is the sequel, also very good.) 10/10 recommendation.
The Longest Night by tirsynni is amazing. It's a relatively short fic, and it's unfinished, but it's still just - great. Trigger warning for some things, I'd definitely recommend reading the tags first, but like, I love. It's an interesting exploration of Link's psyche, and Revali's response to it. Honestly, anything by tirsynni tends to be amazing. 8/10 recommendation.
The Effect of the Illusion of Truth by GeryutheTzakandi!!! This is genuinely one of my favorite fics ever - it's so silly and funny and just an all-around good time. Small warning in that it's unfinished and hasn't updated since 2022, but like - I'd still give it a read because what is there is a fun time. It's a fic where Revali and Link decided to get married so that Link and Zelda don't have to. (And no, the two of them were not previously dating.) 10/10 recommendation.
(Another good one by GeryutheTzakandi is Deftly avoiding saying exactly what you mean - this one's hilarious, and Revali is surprisingly self-aware.)
Inertia by sincosma is a great exploration of how Link's amnesia affects the relationship between him and Revali - and what promises they made pre-Calamity. The memories are so interesting yet heart-breaking to read - but the happy ending makes it very much worth it. 9/10 recommendation.
A Seed of Song by Ginneke is adorable. I'm always a sucker for child fics/baby acquisition fics, especially if they're done well, and, well - this one is definitely done well. It's very cute - it's unfinished, but I still think it's worthwhile to read what's been written so far. The drama of Link not wanting to marry Princess Zelda is also very interesting. 7.5/10 recommendation.
Under the Stars by peterpiez is one of my favorites!! Honestly because it's one of the very few Revalink Linked Universe fics to exist. There's very little active Revalink, given most of it is just Link mourning and being retrospective in response to the lives and loves of the other Links, but I still really enjoyed. This is also unfinished, and I don't see the author ever updating it, but I still would recommend giving it a go.
The Last Song on the Wind by Inked_Jael is another incredible fic. There's so much worldbuilding, and insight to Link's thoughts, I just love this one so much. It's super interesting because it explores the politics and the different cultures of Hyrule. I know second-person style can sometimes throw people off, but I think it works really really well given the story - and also if you keep in mind that it's about Link, just... please read this. Their work needs more love. 10/10 recommendation.
a moment's respite by cottonmouthcandy is another one of my favorites. It's a bit of a sad read, because it's pre-calamity and you know what's coming for the champions in the future, but it's a story where you get to just enjoy with them their little vacation at the beach. It's just sweet, and nice. It's been a while since I've read it, though, so those are more just the vibes that I remember rather than the content of the story itself. 9/10 recommendation.
the wind through the flowers by HopeStoryteller is also just a silly, fun time. The boys go Modulga hunting. 7.5/10 recommendation.
I have more, and I would continue, but I kind of have a class in six hours and I need to sleep before then, so uh... yeah. I hope this satisfies you question!! But honestly please spread the love to these authors their works are just absolutely amazing.

Which Link is unable to keep a secret for just 30 minutes?
Ooooh that's a fun question!! I'm not a super big LU writer (I have a lot of headcanons and stories but LU tends to be my less serious fics), but this is a fun idea to think about.
To be honest I think all of the Links are really good at keeping secrets. They've all been on their adventures, and they've all definitely kept stuff hidden from one another about their adventures....
Though if I had to choose one, probably Wild. Wild's story is one the rest of the chain kind of knows from the get-go, just because of the fact that he... sort of exists in the way that he exists? So given lack of experience keeping secrets in comparison with the other Links, he'd probably be worse at it?
(When it comes to secrets the Links are keeping: Sky has the curse, Four has splitting and the existence of shadow + his shrinking abilities, Time has literally everything about his adventures, Wind probably doesn't talk much about everything, especially Phantom Hourglass, Twilight doesn't talk much about Midna + the whole Wolfie thing, Legend has Koholint and pretty much everything else, Hyrule has blood curse and assassins, and Warriors has... I'm not sure? Cia stuff. But also since he has training he's probably better at keeping secrets. In contrast, what secrets does Wild have?)
So yeah. Final answer is Wild.

I forget if you’ve answered this or not, but does Prolo Village replace Lurelin Village? In my brain it always has because of the absolutely fascinating and tragic implications, but then I realized I didn’t actually know if that was true, so I checked and they’re in different locations, but both of them are based on outset island (even having structures similar to Aryll’s lookout)
Sooooo does it? Sorry for rambling, this fic simply plagues my every waking thought
No worries!! I don't know if I explicitly said "it's not Lurelin" or not, so let me do that here!! Prolo and Lurelin are two very different villages. I based the houses quite a bit on Lurelin's because I need something to reference, but they're two different villages.
Tumblr media
I've posed this image before, but here it is again!! (Ignore how close I am to dying in this screenshot, there was a Talus.) It's not the greatest sketch explaining how the village looks, but it worked for me.
(Speaking of which, maybe it's because I've yet to do this for Saihoku that I'm having such a hard time writing the next chapter. I now know what I need to do today lmao.)
So they're quite far from each other! They've got the whole Necluda Sea between them. I'm sure the probably trade with one another, but yeah, different villages.
I hope this helped? And thanks so much for your question!! I'm glad you've liked the fic :DD

How about some triple threat art??

I AM ASSUMING that this is what was meant by triple threat because this is what I found in the LU tag but. They are all the same height for the most part so it makes sense to be them if not this is my petition. Anywho I gave them pretty hair!!
