I love that you noticed this, I watched the Buccaneers not that long ago when I was going through a Yul Brynner phase but I didn’t spot this …

So now obviously I have to rewatch this episode.

Guys. GUYS. I FOUND THE VEST.

So I was idly scrolling through some streaming film listings last night, and the title card for one movie in particular caught my eye:

That's Yul Brynner (with hair!) playing Jean Lafitte in a middling 1958 pirate film. But it was his wardrobe that caught my attention, because I've watched The Wild Wild West episode "The Night of the Big Blast" at least a dozen times, and I'd know that embroidered leather anywhere!

It's hard to grab a full-length shot that shows the embroidery, since for most of the Mardi Gras scene Artie is either dancing or fencing up a staircase, but you can see it a bit here:

It looks like the vest lost the original embroidered shoulder caps and acquired some more gold trim somewhere between 1958 Paramount and 1966 CBS -- the brighter gold ribbon is new, while the original embroidery thread is more faded -- but the lower panels definitely feature the same embroidery and gold beading.

The vest was also used in season 4 episode "The Night of the Pelican," this time worn by Khigh Dhiegh:
