the fact that edward armstrong specializes in women's nervous disorders but is the most hysterical out of all of them and it proves to be his downfall is in itself a commentary on lack of support of men's mental health issues in which armstrong had no support for his obvious anxiety disorder/alcoholism and the hypocrisy and mistreatment of women in the health system in the early-mid 20th century where women's issues were written off as hysterical by often inexperienced doctors who were given no training and believed that women without the care of a man would fall into madness and hysteria and the fact that armstrong seems to be the most mentally ill out of all of them and is slapped by vera (to calm him) and manipulated by other people takes that stereotype of the rational and practical doctor and frenzied (female) patient and turns it upside-down which was revolutionary in 20th century literature send tweet

Idk how to handle the fact that in my game John Seed now canonically has a thing for blondes, aka Mary May and my Rook who looks like this:

I ran around Hope County for hours collecting every piece of dialogue about The Seeds that was even remotely interesting. Enjoy! 💕

This is officially canon in my heart.
A Theory about John Seed
I was thinking about John Seed (as usual) and his abuse at the hands of his adopted parents, the Duncans. On his Far Cry Wiki page, it says that the Duncans ‘considered John’s soul to be tainted’ and therefore tortured him, and I was wondering what might have led them to that conclusion, since Joseph always describes John as a kind, loving child. And then I thought:
What if the Duncans decided that John’s soul was tainted and subjected him to torture because he is left-handed?
Sounds weird but hear me out. Long post below with big pictures but I hope it’s interesting.
So, why do I think John is left-handed, or was originally?
In Christianity, being left-handed is traditionally considered unfavourable, evil even, as those who ‘fall from God’ are sent to his left hand side (Matthew 25: 32-33). The fallen go to the left. Jesus sits at God’s right hand side.
Being left handed has even been associated with black magic/Satanism in the past and this general unfavourable outlook is seen in cultures across the world. Thousands of people used to be (and some still are) forced to use their right hand because of this.
The Duncans must have originally believed John to be an ‘innocent’. People wouldn’t just adopt kids who they thought were inherently evil, so the Duncans must have picked him, and then discovered some reason to come to believe there was evil in him. Someone’s dominant hand isn’t something you often immediately notice and so they probably noticed, a little while after taking him home for the first time, when he was playing or something.
And, being highly religious, they saw it as their duty to purge the evil from him.
So, my evidence for this theory?
WHAT THE CHARACTERS SAY
John says: ‘one night they took me into the kitchen…’ which suggests some passing of time before the abuse began- maybe a few days in which they noticed and then came to a decision on how to deal with it.
In the Book of Joseph, Joseph also writes that John was told that ‘every movement meant temptation’, a statement which is quite vague, but would make a lot more sense if those movements were done with his left hand.
In the game, John definitely uses his right hand for most things- it’s the hand he holds his knife in, the hand he uses to pull Hudson’s chair around.
Also, he uses the tattoo gun in his right hand.
But notice that the writing is always shaky, partially because whoever is getting tattooed is probably struggling, but even his own sins are shakily written. Hurk says at one point that John disrespects ‘the ink’ because he didn’t learn proper lettering.
Maybe that’s because he’s been forced to write using his non-dominant hand? Quite literally had his natural left-handed dominance beaten out of him?
STILLS FROM THE GAME
I have found a couple of examples where he is very obviously using his left hand for stuff that I, as a right handed individual, would find pretty uncomfortable or awkward to do with my left hand:
Tumblr media
Holding Hudson’s throat for example.
Tumblr media
Or gripping the Deputy’s wrist with enough strength to keep them there, despite the fact that he’s dying at this point
As a right handed individual, these threatening actions just wouldn’t carry the same strength or power if I used my non-dominant hand.
Another example, just a little thing but something I noticed. There was a gifset post that went around a few weeks back (by johnseeed) about the little circular hand movement he does where he moves his hand on his chest… both times (once in the video below, once in the bunker at the ‘become Wrath’ bit) he does this with his left hand.
Both times, he’s talking about knowing sin.
Tumblr media
Heck, even in some of the promo art he’s holding the tattoo gun in his left hand:
Tumblr media
I’m watching Seamus Dever in Castle at the moment, and I’m pretty sure he’s right handed, and so I know it’s a massive stretch, but I just can’t shake the idea of it. It’s such a small thing but I don’t know, I just feel like it explains a lot.
IMAGERY
John was told his whole life that he’s riddled with sin, and for him to have had that told to him just because of the way he was born would explain his obsession with atonement, with proving himself free of sin and worthy of love, and also the struggle he seems to have with his two personas.
So, just as God sat in the centre, with the fallen to the left and his son to the right- we have to imagine the Duncans as John’s God.
To their left sits the demon the Duncans told him he was- John Seed who uses his left hand- fallen from God the moment he was born.
On the other side, the demon they made him to be- John Duncan, who uses his right hand- their son.
Oh and a final note:
Guess where all of his sins are tattooed?

does anyone ever think about how joseph treats john, especially in his eulogy after his actual death, and become remarkably angry
like... there would be absolutely no edens gate if it wasn't for john seed. that's not an exaggeration. his money paid for the land they live on, he is the main driving force behind recruitment into the project, and he is their SOLE legal defense. he didn't have to do this. joseph didn't FORCE him to do this. he did it because he loves his family, and, in my opinion, has a kind heart and genuinely wants to help people ( say what you want about lawyers, but everyone is entitled to a defense, and its very telling that john chose a public service job for himself of his own volition).
and how does joseph thank him for this? by calling him a monster and saying that above all else, people feared him, something that is patently untrue and deeply hypocritical (we'll get to that part later). if the peggies in john region feared him, don't you think it would be reiterated by the narrative at least one time? don't you think it's a little odd that after his death, people try to kill you in retaliation? even if you try to make the argument that they were brainwashed into loving john, it falls apart when you consider that you can't be brainwashed into loving someone and also fear them at the same time because that doesn't make any fucking sense.
if he said that because of the confession scene, something we only know of happening exactly this way to the deputy and their associates, or because of how he treats people in his region- hasn't joseph killed his own followers on more than one occasion? wouldn't joseph be involved in the induction process and how it's set up more than literally anyone else considering hes the leader of the whole project? think for a second about how given the angle and the location there's almost no way john carved his own sin into himself? meaning that it's incredibly likely joseph did it?
it's very obvious that joseph takes the moral high ground over his brother, absolutely the most traumatized out of the four of them, and it's almost CERTAINLY because of johns struggles with addiction, which makes me absolutely sick. and don't get me wrong- i love joseph seed as a character. i do, really ! this isn't a hatepost about what an awful man joseph is. it's just... every day, i think about joseph, before his younger brothers body is even cold, saying "john was not perfect. sometimes he was not even good," and it makes me so angry that if he were real i would drive to montana and strangle him.
john did his best to be good with the limited tools he was given and he deserved better than to die alone and crying and then to be derided by the one man whose approval meant the most in the world to him.

I loooove that comparison especially Sam x Mike and Clarke x Bellamy it almost feels like a trope in a sense? but that was very well exploited in both cases ~
the 100/until dawn/twdg
So, I’m a fan of the show The 100, as well as the games Until Dawn and The Walking Dead by Telltale Games/Skybound Entertainment. And I just had some observations I wanted to share with everyone to 1) get it out of my head, and 2) possibly get some discussions going.
Some connections I have made while writing many of our favorite characters are as follows,
I feel like Sam and Mike from Until Dawn have a very similar relationship to Clarke and Bellamy from The 100.
We didn’t get to see them interact too terribly much one on one in the game, but I just sense that very strong bond, especially with the same positions as “the heart and the head.” We see Sam very often acting out of logic (much like Clarke), while Mike’s decisions are much more correlated to his emotions (similar to Bellamy), i.e. chasing after Jess’ “killer”, beating up Josh, and nearly shooting Emily.
I have even stronger vibes that Mitch from The Walking Dead Game The Final Season radiates extreme John Murphy energy.
When the game starts, Mitch isn’t necessarily an antagonist, but he is certainly one of the more aggressive characters we see in the group. He is very detached from the rest of the school, mainly only interacting with Willy when he’s not on his own. He is very blunt with his emotions, speaking his mind without much regard to how the others will react to his words. However, he showed that he does care when it comes to certain people. Following Marlon’s death, he pulled a knife on Clementine and much like Murphy, he seems to have a soft spot for kids.
In my mind, I feel like Mitch definitely would be a character that was afraid of death, despite all the risky moves he would make, similar to John. This was never outrightly said, as we did not get too much of one on one with his character, but that’s just the vibes I felt from him. And in the end, Mitch sacrificed himself in an attempt to save a child in their group, Tennessee. I certainly believe that while he was aggressive and detached in the beginning, he liked to be a hero, something else shared between him and Murphy in the later seasons of The 100.
Please, let me know your thoughts! Along with any other connections you have made between characters in these three fandoms, or with others added in! I’m interested to hear if anyone else has thought these characters/relationships were similar, or if you see similarities between others.
