Summary: Max Detweiler-Lockhart's quest to fuck every queer woman in the Alps backfires when her latest target falls for someone else.
Baroness Kim Legaspi-Schraeder was an infamous name around not only Austria, but also the surrounding areas; she had somehow --thanks to her looks, no doubt-- gotten away with impunity thus far through the 1930s. Although even she had reached her limit with the imposing rule of law and its effects on her beloved hometown of Vienna.  Stripped of her title, both the former-Baroness and her friend Max now lived hidden in the alps, in the grand house of a former beau who had fled for Switzerland with his children. Well, they lived as hidden as someone who had inherited such wealth could live. "I never quite mustered that boyish charm," joked Max Detweiler-Lockhart, watching the Nazi soldier disappearing past the limits of the grand estate having hand-delivered yet another telegram to Franz the Butler. A queer woman who had recently fled Gay Berlin for the Austrian Alps, Max sought refuse alongside one of her few remaining friends in high places. "You mastered it, my dear," the Baroness smirked, "you were incredibly lucky to get injured so early on." Cigarette pursed in her lips, Max refused to agree, although she knew that Kim was right. In Max's case, she'd fought much harder to be accepted as a woman in a male-dominated society, to the point of antagonising even some of the strongest proponents of pro-gay sexual ideology when she fought in the Imperial Army in the Great War. And with an injury long before the defeat of 1918, Max was lucky the Deutsches Kaiserreich was too busy losing a war to pursue her. And with Austria-Hungary now pre-occupied with losing their own territory to the Third Reich, somehow the story of the young woman passing herself off as a German Soldier had faded into obscurity...

Chapter 6:
Abby had barely slept. It wasn't the first night she'd spent endlessly trying to talk herself around to facing the day that lie ahead. The obvious thing to do was to start the following day as though nothing had happened; afterall, she’d never intended for anything to happen —she could always blame her own hormonal state if she needed to. But the part of her that had been longing for something, anything, to happen between her and her boss was still buzzing from the small but sticky contact their lips had made. She'd been trying her hardest not to appease those other urges pertaining to lips and stickiness. She eventually dragged herself out of bed, nodding to her all-sorts-of-complicated companion who sat reading her daily fill of journalism.  “Decaf is in the pot with the green handle,” Kerry muttered to Abby, abrely lifting her eyes from the page as Abby shook her head in response to one of the worst night’s sleep she’d had since moving in. “It always is,” Abby smirked, hoping this would be the only small talk that Kerry would make. She pushed a chair back, leaving enough space for both bump and outstretched legs to fit between her seat and the table, then collapsing into it. “I’m on the late shift tonight,” Kerry added, barely looking up from her Tribune. “...I know Kerry, you are all week.” Abby paused another moment, giving Kerry a last chance to address the elephant in the room before she did —the vow she’d promised herself to finally make it to sleep sometime around the early hours. “It’s going to be unseasonably cold, for May…” “—Kerry are we going to talk about that kiss?”
