I updated my designs for the four celestial monkeys (feat. Sonson :3)!

Let's go clockwise!

Chikao mahou (赤尻馬猴/Red-Buttocked Horse-Monkey)

Has knowledge of yin and yang, Understands human affairs, Is adept in its daily life And able to avoid death and lengthen its life.

I wanted to keep the wrestling motiff but add something to make it stand out, y'know? So I added elements of Song dynasty heavy armor to really give her some oomph. It'll be hell to draw again when I get into the project these are all for but it's worth it imho!

Tongbei yuanhou (通臂猿猴/Long-Armed Gibbon)

Seize the sun and the moon, Shorten a thousand mountains, Distinguish the auspicious from the inauspicious, And manipulate planets and stars.

This was actually my fave design of the previous attempt! I didn't change much but I did refine the goggles' design as well as add a few elements of peking opera. His surcoat has designs inspired by the costumes and he has water sleeves!

Liu'er Mihou (六耳獼猴/Six-Eared Macaque)

A sensitive ear, Discernment of fundamental principles, Knowledge of past and future, And comprehension of all things.

Lingming shihou/Sun Wukong (靈明石猴]/Stone-Monkey of Numinous Wisdom)

Knows transformations, Recognizes the seasons, Discerns the advantages of earth, And is able to alter the course of planets and stars.

THE BELOVED!!! Originally I had stuck much closer to Bengus's design that was included in Sonson's original concept art which you can see here:

But realized it's like kind of boring-looking and probably optimized for animation though it was never used in the end. So I decided to also give it some oomph! While still trying to keep the spirit of the original I made the outfit look more like wushu training clothes.

So apparently some people new to Tumblr think a repost and a reblog are the same thing, so when they see creators asking for people to not repost, they're thinking the creators are saying to not reblog 😭

Y'all, a repost is when you copy/download the work and create a new post using the work making it seem as if it's yours.
