Two years ago I fell into the very narrow rabbit hole of gender bender webnovels on Scribblehub. Specifically, the very niche subgenre that is basically trans wish-fulfillment is disguise. Stories that use gender bending as a device to tell stories about trans people (mostly trans-femmes) for trans people. Or, to put it more simply, hatching-of-egg stories.
It was a good time. Certainly more fun and cathartic than the awkward phase of looking at infuriatingly bad gender bending manga, having gender feelings that you haven’t quite untangled yet. Completely hypothetical example that, nothing personal here haha.
Anyways, in that time, I found a bunch of good stories for anyone who might be interested. Also, all of these have transfemme protagonists, even if they don’t know that at the beginning. Here we go! I'll start with:
We’re Not So Different, You And I by Elamimax: Three friends find themselves transported in a strange world that blends cyberpunk dystopia with fantasy. Separated, the story is about them trying to find each other again, all the while going through a lot of changes and learning things about themselves. It’s a non-linear story that is in my opinion masterfully told. The prose is evocative and fun and even affecting. The characters go through a lot, and even though I’d say it is light on suspense, it goes heavy with emotions and the way the characters deal with their situation. The non-linear pacing does a great job at delivering a story full of pathos and catharsis. Plus, the world it creates has is concrete enough that I know what it's about, while also being vague enough with details that it can be developed further in a different story if that ever happens. Can’t recommend it more if I could.

I'm looking for a trans fluffy book. Maybe a romance one I haven't read any good ones and so long. I can never find them so if you have any good suggestions.
Hi, so I want to start by linking the "romance" tag from this blog, there's hopefully some there you will enjoy.
I am personally not the biggest romance and fluff reader, so I would also ask my followers to weigh in if you know anything else! However, some fluffy/uplifting trans stories I read and enjoyed are:
The Prince's Dearest Guards by Beau Van Dalen - also quite spicy and featuring some dysphoria, but mainly sweet and fluffy and about accepting oneself (trans man MC)
As the Light Goes Out by Olive J. Kelley - short and really fluffy, adhd acceptance, some negative feelings about adhd & burnout, but very much centered on healing (trans man LI)
The Companion by E.E. Ottoman - short, spicy and incredibly fluffy, t4t4t (trans woman MC, trans man LI, trans woman LI)
The Left Hand of Dog by Si Clarke - sci fi, very nerdy, very sweet, not inherently a romance, but features a romance plot, it has a talking dog which is always very good (nonbinary transfem MC)
Any Other City by Hazel Jane Plante - fictional memoir, very bittersweet at points, but also filled with so much community and love and trans joy and queer sex. (tw for self harm/suicide attempt in the past, abusive relationship in the past and dysphoria + bad sex due to it). (trans woman MC)
A Psalm for the Wild Built by Becky Chambers - cozy post-apocalyptic sci fi (we fixed it. what now?), like a warm cup of tea, very fluffy, about finding your own way (nonbinary MC)
As far as I know anything by Ela Bambust (but especially Principles of Non-Euclidean Romance & Any Other Name) - really sweet and loving and magical stories of trans acceptance and coming out (trans woman MC)
Mooncakes by Suzanne Walker - a comic about a young Deaf witch and a nonbinary werewolf, short and sweet, does deal with fighting oppression a bit (nonbinary LI)
Dulhaniyaa by Talia Bhatt - a short romance, does feature arranged marriage and past heartbreak, but overall very fluffy and sweet and romantic & very bollywood (trans woman LI)
Those are a few I could think off, but again I'm not the biiiiggest romance reader out there, so there's definitely more :) I hope you'll be able to find something you enjoy!

Any Other Name by Ela Bambust

Tumblr media
Jonathan Rosewood thought he was going to die when a truck hurtles toward him. But, saved by Afterlife Social Services, he's instead turned into a cat familiar and sent to the Waxing Weather Warlock School for the magically gifted. Once there, he becomes fast friends with ferret familiar Simon and Fox Sarah. Together with their Witches and Wizards they train to protect the world from invasion by the things that exist beyond it. As Jonathan navigates his new life and the horrors of first love, he finds himself at the center of a war that has lasted for centuries--and with more questions than answers. Why do some people have access to magic and others don’t? What really are the creatures he's being trained to fight? And why is 'he' a girl in cat form?
Mod opinion: I've read and enjoyed this story, it's quite cute.

Witches Loving Werewolves by Ela Bambust
goodreads
Tumblr media
Witches Loving Werewolves is an anthology full of queer, trans, sapphic love, all of it with a supernatural twist. Any Witch Way features a witch out of her depth, trying to juggle new responsibilities with the fact that she turns into a wolf every full moon all of sudden, and that her cat Pancakes does too. A fish-out-of-water story about finding yourself in a strange land and strange body. Mutually Assured Seduction is about two people so dense they have their own gravitational field. Two college warlock rivals challenge each other to a whoever can stay a girl the longest is the winner and the better mage (it makes sense to them). Meanwhile, their gay best friends are watching the chaos unfold as best they can, but they're also a little distracted with each other. A romantic comedy you haven't seen before. Part-Time Monster is a real coming-of-age story. Damien, son of Lilith (marketing executive and retired demoness) is trying to deal with the fact that he keeps turning into a demon girl whenever he gets an anxiety attack. It's straining his school life but more importantly, his relationship with his best friend Allyssa. What follows is a story of young love, demon shenanigans and a cool mom. This collection of queer novellas is perfect for anyone who wants a bite-sized romantic love story, always with a healthy helping of trans themes, self-exploration and acceptance.
Mod opinion: I've read this fun short story collection of trans wish fulfillment stories, it's quite sweet.

Principles of Non-Euclidean Romance by Ela Bambust
goodreads
Tumblr media
Sammaël, Accuser, Destroyer, an eldritch entity older than space and time itself, roams the universe, looking for a way to alleviate its boredom. When down on earth, Abe Douglas dies alone, drunk and angry in an alleyway, Sammaël seizes the opportunity and takes his body, unaware of the strange and impossible journey it is about to undertake. Principles of Non-Euclidean Romance is a Queer Science Fiction story told in 10 dimensions, unlike anything you've seen, read, or experienced before, going forward or backwards.
Mod opinion: I've read and really enjoyed this story. An eldritch entity discovering gender (and dysphoria) is quite fun!

Through Verdant Mirrors by Ela Bambust
goodreads
Tumblr media
Cinero, born in a body that isn't his and orphan of a war he barely remembers, is sent out to find a handsome, sleeping Prince. Everything seems to be going well until he actually succeeds. An ancient evil awakens but maybe more importantly, so is an exceedingly helpful dryad named Aesling, who takes up residence in his — her?! — head and immediately offers some well-needed physical changes to the repressed Cinero. Now going by Vera, with a body that fits her much better, and with the help of the Prince and the dryad, this young trans girl has to find her friends, stop the evil, and try to figure out how two people living in one body can both be in love with the same person.
Mod opinion: I haven't read this fantasy novel yet, but I've enjoyed other work by the author so I hopefully will get around to it at some point.
