Knock off heaven! (Guangzhou Baiyun World Leather Trading Centre)
3 things which really stood out on my map of Guangzhou:
1. Guangzhou Tower
2.  Wedding dress street
3. Guangzhou's wholesale leather market.
Enroute to the tower and avoiding wedding dress street I stopped off at the leather market.
First opnion: Exterior looks like a cheap arcade.
Distraction: The guys trying to sell tiger skins on hand trolleys outside

Image from www.learnmorechina.com (I was too dazzled by all the bags to take photos)
Once inside I realised that an hour was never going to be enough. The place is a maze of little shops of every imaginable designer fakes - and I don't mean the regular kind. Everything from Hermes and D&G to 2.55 bags that Coco would mistake for her own. All made from real leather with high quality stitching and perfect lining to boot - the only thing missing was the full logo. We soon figured out from over hearing conversation that there is a prominent police presence and in order to get the bag 'double C' and all you had to pay for the bag and collect it around the back later where your new Chanel looks like it came straight from the boutique - logo freshly polished.
Another mystery of the market was the what was behind the many curtained off areas inside each boutique. It was only when you stepped in side and they closed off the curtain behind you did they reveal what was hidden on those shelves - more bags!

Prices ranged up to €150+ for a pretty spectacular Chanel.
My tip - some of the unbranded stuff is really good value - I got two acrylic clutches for €10 (they would be €50+ each at home).
Always a sucker for hats - they have some nice quality fedoras.
Shoes - fake Jimmy Choo's if your into that.
Win - Mcdonalds on site in case your peckish
Fail - Toilets, but what did you expect?

Video
Video for the new regeneration of Parnell Square.
While I think regeneration is needed im not totally convinced. I agree that that a new civic library is needed, however with the Central Bank Building becoming vacant in the heart of Dublin(on Dame St. and Temple Bar), doesn't that seem a much easier solution than building a brand new building (which would be hidden behind the Hugh Lane Gallery)? Not only that but with the Docomomo competition held recently, they are actually looking for something to fill the soon to be empty Sam Stephenson masterpiece. There was also no mention what will happen with traffic if the North side of Parnell Sq. is pedestrianised.
By the way since when do we have a cultural spine?
And since when are spines 'L' shaped?
Check out the PDF for more info:

Interesting enough I noticed a pic of the Centrale Bibliotheek in Amsterdam in there, coincidentally the cost of that building was €80 million.

A mock shirt really? Well this could be the latest thing, after all collars a getting a little boring already.
I came across this little number in COS in BT2. Despite my sullen face I was actually quite interested in how it would so I tried it on. It was good to see something different In COS as I always find their stock simular,  however it's sad to see that this is not in their look book.
How would the COS model actually wear it?
or more importantly.. how would you wear it?
'Made from crisp cotton, this mock shirt is a curved bib shape with a neat scalloped collar. Designed to be layered under tops, giving the illusion of a shirt, it has adjustable straps that secure it in place.'- COS

I went along to the Om Diva and Atelier 27 launch of the new ready to wear collections from 6 new Irish fashion designers last night. It was a great evening which provided a rare opportunity to meet the designers and take a look inside some of their studios. The new collections were on show on the various levels of the store complimented by some amazing illustrations by Carol Mahon.
A lot of the new collections had a luxe sportswear feel and many of the designers seem to be working with leathers.
A stand out designer for me was Colin Horgan, he had some amazing pieces which really showed his skilful use of leather(red peplum top above). Similarly Alison Conneely(pictured with me) had some exceptional pieces including one jacket made from kid skin(goat).
Edel Traynor's new collection is extremely fashion forward and chic. The detail in her work is simply amazing - white dress pictured above has her currently into the final of the Vodafone DIT Fashion Show Student Design Award.
The accessories on show last night really drew attention. De Loup designs have a new range of woven chain necklaces which are stunning. Also newcomer to Atelier 27, Morganna Murphy(pictured above with her amazing sequin eyebrows) has a range of quirky had stitched neck pieces, which feature some catchy words.
Other designers which I spoke to and are currently in residence in Atelier 27 - Heather Finn and Sean Byrne(pictured above with a piece from his summer collection on a mannequin) let me peek inside their studios and see what they are working on at the moment. Overall it was another great preview and a really enjoyable event. I really have to credit Om Diva and Atelier 27 for a great evening and as pioneers of emerging Irish fashion.

PARK(ing) Day 2013 has been announced as Friday 20th September 2013!
PARK(ing) Day is an annual worldwide event where artists, designers and citizens transform metered parking spots into temporary public parks.
Above are pictures of our one from last year - 'Traffic Twister'  Which was a giant twister mat which members of the public could try out on South William St. and yes that is the Lord Mayor of Dublin(in the top photo) suited up and giving it a go!

Unfortunately I will be away for the Vodafone DIT Fashion Show which is happening on the 17th April. So instead I went to the semi-final of the Vodafone Student Design Award last Thursday night in Smock Alley. It was a great show from start to finish. The shortlisted few had made their garments in record time and got to take a short breather as their creations walked down the runway.
I'm sad to say a few of my favourites didn't get through to the final however the stand out white dress(seen in top photo) by Edel Traynor from Grafton Academy is the one I am putting my money on for the top prize(€2,500). The level of creativity and detail is suberb!
The chosen finalists which can be seen in the top photo(not in order) are Nicole Jackson- Co.Galway, LIT, .Louisa Howard – IADT, Edel Traynor- Grafton Academy, Laura Jennings – Co.Mayo, LIT, Mona Sweeney – GMIT,   Jordan Edmonds Moore- LIT,  Antonia Dowling – DIT, Maria Roche- Griffith College, Jessica Brandt – University of Ulster, Colin Horgan – Co.Kerry LIT.

While i'm playing catch up on everything that has happened in the last few weeks, here's a few pictures from the Hennessy Gold Cup!
The Hennessy Best Dressed Lady 2013 in association with Design Centre took place at the Hennessy Gold Cup in Leopardstown on Saturday, 9th February, 2013. Over all the going was a little soft but it was a great day and I was lucky to have a few winning bets. The Hennessy stand gave out free drinks and Hennessy hot chocolate to all the glamorous ladies.
Pictured top from left to right: Suzie McAdam(Birdcage Design), myself, stylish Mark Flood and chic Danielle Gingell.
The best dressed winner on the day was Marisa Cheah (pictured above on the far right).
My outfit was a fox fur cape from Jenny Vander on Drury St., Zara dress and self made felt and pheasent feather hat with vintage 1980's Chanel earings!

Some mock up posters for the DIT fashion show I did while doing a PR plan for the show.
This year the show is happening on the 17th April in Vicar St., Dublin.
The show is a nationally anticipated charity event, with an exciting high-energy national Student Design Award. This years theme is “House of Chaos: A Twisted Tale”
The Vodafone DIT Student Design National Competition is an amazing opportunity for any upcoming student designer in Ireland. This National competition provides an amazing opportunity to get National Media exposure and chance to network within the Irish Fashion Industry.
