hi! mimetic means something similar to imitative. a lot of the time people use it to mean doing the type of mimesis plato talks about, so something mimetic would be something that represents something Real. if you see the word mimetic in the wild it’s probably that

girard’s definition of mimesis / mimetic is Slightly Different but also the one i use on this blog. the glossary of the girard reader (ed. james g. williams) defines mimesis as “practically synonymous with mimetic desire. Mimesis evokesdesire. Desire constitutes mimesis. Mimetic desire is a kind of nonconscious imitation of others, but it is important to stress that the word “imitation” has to be joined with the adjective “appropriative” or “acquisitive.” Mimesis seeks to obtain the object that the model desires. The function of culture is to control and channel this potential conflict over the object.” so mimetic would mean Relating To the human tendency to imitate each other, in an acquisitive way, that can lead to everyone copying everyone else so much that they any distinctions become meaningless and you end up with a Mimetic Crisis™. 

and yeah foils Are a lot like mimetic doubles. but where foils just kinda exist around each other to highlight character stuff, mimetic doubles a) are often mimetic Rivals who come into Actual Conflict That Maybe Ends In A Little Bit Of Murder, and b) might start off as contrasting but get their Differences erased in the mimetic crisis. their differences cause them to want to become one another, so they imitate each other until they are identical and so substitutable for one another! which means killing one of them means killing the conflict in each of them. nice!
