if you haven’t read Dealing with Our Demons by @ravenyenn19 on ao3 …….what are you doing with your life tbh
it’s one of my favourite fics ever i would marry it if i could
it’s a kanej fic but there’s actually a plot as well, and when i tell you the plot is ✨flawless ✨. so far, it’s 400k words long and i haven’t been bored of the plot once. AND if you do get bored (weirdo) the fic is split into ‘seasons’ and around every 20 chapters there is a clear stopping point. i recommend reading the whole thing because it is actually a piece of art. i want to hang it on my wall. i want to paint the words on every building, i want to stick the quotes on my forehead.
it starts pretty much straight after Crooked Kingdom, which to me is perfect because i never want CK to end (leigh you ruined my life) and the kanej development throughout……*chiefs kiss*
IT’S EXACTLY HOW I IMAGINED THEIR RELATIONSHIP
IT’S NOT RUSHED AND IT STAYS TRUE TO THE BOOKS IN THAT SENSE AND AHHAUFJKDSBFSKL IT’S SO PERFECT PLS JUST READ IT
and ofc there’s wesper and characters from SOC but it is mainly focussed on inej and kaz. also the POV switches between them so you get the best of both worlds!!!!!!!! you also get to meet inej’s parents and……i want them to adopt me
the ratio of angst : fluff is PERFECT, the amount of times i’ve cried because of this fic is unreal i can’t lie. BUT it’s also made me laugh. out loud. at 2:00AM. i’ve had to cover my face with my pillow because i was laughing too hard (same with the crying but we don’t talk about that).
bare in mind i started reading it when there was around 80 chapters (there’s 108 currently) and 300k words, I READ IT IN 3 DAYS

IT WAS SO GOOD I READ 100K WORDS A DAY
AND NOT EVEN A FULL DAY
PROBABLY 4 HOURS AT NIGHT
it’s so good omfg
kanej’s trauma is a significant part of it (hence the title) so be mindful of that, but it is written so so so well andddd there are necessary content warnings at the start of those chapters.
it isn’t finished yet (thank god i couldn’t cope if it ends soon) but the updates are pretty regular and consistent and literally no chapter disappoints.
apart from the recent chapter made me sob ha lol
