Luffy x Reader Soulmate!AU
Tumblr media
So, this is a short snippet from the prologue of my fanfic on Wattpad that I've been writing... It's a soulmate AU with the fem!reader and Luffy, and it takes place right after Alabasta.
I'm trying to spread the word so if you're interested I'll put the link to my account Here.
It's called Coast - Reader x Luffy
Hope you like :)
Content under the cut...
It took another moment before realizing the repeating danger; I was falling. Falling towards my death a second time. And at this height, a height much higher than when I had fallen off of the bridge, all of my bones would break and be pushed into my body. If the current didn't kill me, then the internal bleeding definitely would.
Tears bubbled up in my eyes. When my brain and body caught up to each other, I realized how close I had gotten to the water, and I was screaming shrilly before I could stop myself.
Terror ripped through me. After just having to accept the idea of dying in my fall off of the bridge, I was now flung into another gruesome death; but this time my brain had enough time to understand what was going on. There was no surviving this. I was either in hell, or stuck in my last moments; experiencing the fear of my own death on repeat. My vision was blurry as I choked on a sob.
The water was getting close... close, closer still.
Did I really have to go through this again? Was there no way I could survive this?
The instinctual, fearful process started again when I got within two-hundred feet of the water. I could hear the gentle lapping of the waves, now.
My teeth and eyes clenched shut, muscles tensing again to brace for the pain, heart racing for the incoming impact.
This was it. I was going to die. Again.
When the waves became the only thing that I could hear anymore, I felt a sudden pressure around my abdomen.
I was yanked to the side with a whiplash that was near breakneck speed. Grabbing at the squishy material around my waist for some sort of support, I opened my eyes right before I whacked into something solid. With a cry, we were both sent sprawling to the ground.
A low groan vibrated the object that I was now laying on, warm and firm, before I repeated the same sound; body aching from the fearful tension and then the rough collision. The surface beneath us rocked side to side, and I had to place a hand on the wooden boards beneath us to steady my trembling body before I fell over. Now on my knees between his thighs, I heard a shuffling in front of me.
Shaking my head, I opened my teary eyes to find the face of a boy right in front of mine. When our gazes met, he broke out into an enormous, adorable smile.
"Hey, I caught you!"

all fanfiction is funnier and sexier and vastly better-written when you read it at three in the morning, in the dark, lying on your side, tucked into bed, with screen rotate turned off. that’s just how it works. that’s just facts.

BEN Drowned
It was strange to finally be scrolling through my computer after being restricted for so long. When he had found his way outside of the cartridge and into my computer, BEN had always found some way to mess with it, screwing with my files, making me question reality with every loading screen or missing pixel. Even after I put him inside that cartridge again, it felt like there was something leftover; something that was still there, and I still couldn’t tell if what I was seeing online was real or fake.
Without it, though, everything was absurdly fine. I felt okay. I no longer felt the constant watching as soon as I stepped into my room when I got home, nor did I hesitate like I used to when typing the password of my account to log in. Even looking at the 4chan post seemed so… normal.
So why did it feel so wrong?
It didn’t make any sense. I had trapped him, I had given that girl the cartridge, and she would destroy it; he would be gone. For good.
Looking through the comments and responses to my posts were helping me to enforce the idea that I was safe. I could easily responded to each comment now, perfectly ordinary, without any mishaps; I pushed the button and the thread was sent, without any altered words or blank messages.
I felt relaxed for the first time in weeks. He was gone. He was actually gone.
MaskywasHere: I’m scared that we haven’t heard from you yet. You good bro?
gingersnaps-obsessed12: I’m too impatient for this crap. It’s like a masterpiece I can’t even- I must have more
DrgnGutz: Holy shit, dude. I mean, no way this is real, but it's a great story, really.
KittyGirl<33: OMG! R u alive???!
Ifrit: I’d like to hear more from you via email, if you’re interested in sharing more of your story :)
I mostly responded to the concerned comments with simple, easy replies. Nothing too complex, most of them I just assured I was alright or that everything was fine before moving on to the next; I ignored the more inquisitive questions for my own sanity. The responses were never ending, a constant cycle of scrolling down further into the abyss of loading more comments; all of which I had never seen before, no thanks to BEN and meddling with my perception of the outside world.
Everything was filled with his absence. Everything was all right again.
That stupid fantasy was wiped away in an instant the moment I looked away from my computer for a second, before looking back and seeing a new window opened to cleverbot. I swear, I could feel a chill run up and down my spine as the room dropped a few degrees.
Bursting from my seat, I rapidly move the mouse and hover over the bright red ‘X’ to close the damn thing, nerves lit up with alarm.
“Fuck… Fuck, fuck, fuck!” I scream at the computer as the window refuses to close, slamming down on the left mouse button with my whole hand and sending it down to the floor with a clatter.
“This isn’t happening.” I begged at the screen, shaking my head and backing away as if I had been burned.
Oh, but it is.
Verging on hysteria, I lunged for the power button, landing harshly on my knees and nearly pushing it inside of the PC from the force. This was a dream, a nightmare. The after effects of what had happened to me, my brain was just tricking me right now. I would hit this button, and it would be over. Really over this time.
I cried out in despair when the damn thing refused to turn off.
“What the fuck… What the fuck do you want from me?!” Screaming at the bright pixels, I stood back up from the ground, fists clenched at my sides.
Just to talk.
“Leave me alone.”
A little rude for a ‘welcome back,’ but, I suppose it can’t be helped.
“Go fuck yourself.” The longer it went on the more I began to realize this wasn’t in my head. I pinched, squeezed at my arms, the pain registering fully enough to know this wasn’t a nightmare.
Ha. Do I disturb you that much?
“How did you get out?” I was yelling at the screen at this point, surprised my parents hadn’t walked in and asked what the hell I was doing up so late at night screaming so loud.
Wouldn’t you like to know?
“Tell me. Tell me right now, or I swear…”
You’ll what? Put me back?
You can’t now. It’s too late.
“Asshole. You’re a fucking asshole.”
It’s amusing to watch your distress.
“You were supposed to be–” It dawned, right then and there. He was supposed to be gone, destroyed, for good. Something was wrong. Had she messaged me at all since yesterday?
I scrambled for my phone, scrolling through my emails and finding nothing; not since she first contacted me about the cartridge in the first place.
“Where is she? Where’s (Y/n)?”
Who?
“Don’t play coy with me, you little shit. What did you do to her?!” I was raging at this point, all forms of fear converting to defense in an effort to ward him off. It would never work, of course. I had tried it before.
I’m not telling.
“Did you trick her, too? Trap her inside that fucking game, like you did to her brother, Matt?”
You were so eager to get rid of me, you didn’t even think twice about what would happen if it was in someone else’s hands.
“I should’ve destroyed that cartridge myself.” I snarled at the screen, eyes scanning over his next reply as it scrolled onto the site.
Yet you couldn’t. How funny.
“Shut up. You murderer, you killed her, just like you killed the rest.”
Even if I did, that’s none of your concern, is it?
You should be more worried about yourself.
“If she’s alive, I hope she comes to her senses and puts you back in that fucking game, just like I did.”
I told you, that can’t happen anymore.
It’s too late. I’m free now.
I am everywhere now.
The screen explodes into a dialect of code bouncing off of other code, glitching and warping into itself as the machine whirs with an overload of power. In a last ditch effort, I try to draft a new email to her; maybe it’s not too late, maybe I can get to her in time before–
The draft closes itself, and my phone powers down. The dread swallows me up with hot and cold flashes as the small screen lights up with text.
That won’t do you any good.
The entire house is painted black, the electricity shutting down and leaving me to bask in total desperation.

Cybernetic Soulmate - IV

BEN Drowned x Reader
Soulmate AU – Implied Female Reader
Meeting with Alex goes over pretty well, thanks to Ben’s instruction. But, something isn’t right.
Part 3
Masterlist
Benjamin Lawman
BEN Drowned
You’re almost at your destination after a few very long hours, having to pass through a few States in order to get to the location BEN had told you for the cartridge. Throughout traveling you had been on and off chatting using the connection, too. It was odd hearing such a robotic voice in your head, so monotonous and void of emotion; yet so similar to the one that you used to hear, the human one. You’re somehow still going along with this plan, despite the way your stomach tosses around with each mile passed.
He’s given you a few things that need to be done so that you can properly retrieve the cartridge. First, you needed to contact Jadusable, or Alex Hall, and set up a time to meet with him using the last name ‘Hubris.’ This, for some reason, would catch Alex’s attention better than a random stranger's name.
In fact, the name even sounded familiar to you. When you asked BEN about why the surname was so significant, he said he hadn’t known for sure. You didn’t know if your brain was creating a big deal out of nothing, since it was rather late in the evening at that point; but, it sounded like he was being dismissive of your concerns. The nausea that plummeted to the base of your stomach served to keep you quiet. You wanted to throw up from the stress of everything. Couldn’t you get in trouble with using a false name like this?
Regardless, BEN was right. Alex was quick to reply; the contents of your initial email included the second part of the instructions:
It was quite short, briefly explaining to Alex that you knew how to destroy the cartridge. You were working under the guise that your older brother, named Matt, used to own the cartridge before they both disappeared. That is, until you read Alex’s posts online and made some connections between how similar his and ‘your brothers’ experiences were. That was the most you were allowed to say, though. In BEN’s words, less information was better.
You hated the idea of lying to the poor guy’s face, especially after what you had read online if his story was true, but there was no point in turning back now. You were almost there, had already called out of your upcoming day at work, and agreed to BEN’s deal.
So, that’s exactly what you did as you sat in front of him in the desolate coffee shop; as the subtle hum of the old electric lighting made goosebumps rise on your skin, you lied to Alex’s face as you nervously sipped at the plastic coffee cup you had ordered for yourself.
He was young, still in his early twenties, probably not much younger than you; but the way he looked made it seem as if he had aged beyond that point. Dark bags hung beneath his hazel, bloodshot eyes – they showed starkly against his incredibly pale face. His chestnut-brown hair was matted, and he twitched often, hands coming up to scratch at the stubble on his chin or run them through his greasy locks in an effort to keep himself busy. His clothes sported stains, both fresh and old, meaning he hadn’t had a proper change of clothes, or more likely a shower, in days. He couldn’t sit still, and his anxiousness radiated off of him and to you. He hadn’t even touched his coffee, yet. You could feel BEN in the back of your mind, watching your limited interaction silently through the connection.
“M-Matt–” You struggled to properly get the word out, the name feeling foreign on your tongue. You hoped that you could play it off as just being nervous about having an experience like his.
“Matt was a good person… a-and our family was devastated when he just… Disappeared.” You let out a shaky sigh, feeling yourself struggle to look at his face.
“S-So when I saw your post on 4chan, your story was so similar to his that I just… felt it would only be right to reach out and ask to meet with you.” You didn’t dare speak too loudly. Being the only two in the coffee shop made it hard enough to keep the conversation rolling without any awkwardness; it didn’t help that any sudden sounds, whether it be from the television in the corner or the hissing of coffee being brewed, made him jump from his spot.
“In his diary,” You continued on, “He mentioned he had an idea to destroy it. And, well, I-I think I have a pretty good shot at doing it.”
“I… Don’t really understand, but…” He starts, eyes flickering to you, then to the television, the lights, the clock, and finally back to you.
“Y-You can destroy it, right?” The way he was looking into your eyes, almost pleading for some sort of peace that you could offer him, made your heart wrench. He really thought that you were some sort of savior, and here you were tricking him in order to do the opposite. The guilt constricts your windpipe for a moment, and you’re scared he might just see right through your ploy.
For a moment, maybe you could try to treat the lies you’ve been feeding him as providing him a sense of false comfort; just to make yourself feel better.
“Yeah, I can.” You hoped that your false confidence was enough to convince him, despite feeling like you were disintegrating on the inside.
“...Okay.” He doesn’t move for a moment, sighing deeply. You almost think he’s about to run out of the coffee shop from how tense he looks, before he abruptly looks back at you. Holding his gaze, you can see the uncertainty flicker and fade in his eyes when he makes his final decision.
“T-Take it.” His hand shaking, the cartridge clatters loudly onto the table as he practically throws it at you, making the both of you wince when it disturbs the tense silence.
He can’t take his eyes off of it once it’s out in the open; gaze practically glued, looking as if he was reliving some horrible memories. You glance at him, then back at the gray piece of plastic that started all of this, feeling yourself hesitating from his disfavorable reaction. Picking it up gently, you can feel BEN’s satisfaction plume within you as you turn it over, revealing ‘MAJORA’ scrawled messily in dark ink. Smoothing your finger over the bumps outlining the sides, you find yourself wondering how something so small could cause such a great big mess.
When you look back up, Alex is staring at you instead, and you wonder if you had stared at the cartridge too long.
“Thanks.” Hoping you didn’t blow your cover, you swallow and make a move to get up from the table.
“Be careful.” He whispers, still staring as you pocket the game. You nod wordlessly, before all but rushing for the door, leaving some money for both coffees on the counter.
Alex sits at that table, watching as you get in your car as if your life depended on it. He’s wondering if he made a mistake, knowing he had probably rushed through the process in order to be rid of the cartridge. He could already feel the calm settle over him without the ominous presence of the cursed object, but there was one thing still bothering him.
You didn’t even tell him how you would destroy it.
Once inside the vehicle, you hurriedly start the engine and pull out of the parking spot, peeling out onto the road and speeding away, back towards your house.
“I got it.” You glanced at the little gray item that sat on the passenger seat, feeling a threatening aura envelop you every time your eyes landed on it.
I know. You did good.
Your stomach flips at the positive remark, but you try to ignore it for the sake of your safety; Not trying to get distracted by a simple compliment, and instead focusing on the more problematic topic.
“He seemed… Really scared.” If BEN couldn’t tell you were nervous, you would be surprised.
Hm.
You swallowed again, wondering if you should even bother asking the next question.
“Should… Should I be scared?” You asked anyway.
No.
He was openly dismissing you, now. You suspected it was because he now had what he wanted.
You take a deep breath and close the connection, not knowing how to feel about the choices you’ve made.

Once home you’re completely exhausted. It’s now very early in the morning, and the first thing you did since returning was set up the console for BEN, as he had asked you to. Everything seemed to be secured properly, all the right wires plugged in from what you could remember. The Nintendo 64 had been sitting and collecting dust for a while now, you didn’t remember the last time you bothered to play the old console.
Good.
Now, play the game.
The atmosphere drops to something sinister as soon as you read the words on the screen. For some reason, it doesn’t sit right with you, goosebumps crawling over your skin.
“I… I don’t want to.” You dithered, trying not to let your resolve stray as you stared into the TV screen.
What?
The word, despite having no tone at all, seems like it's displeased.
“Can’t you just, I dunno, connect to it?” Rubbing gently over the soulmate mark, you feel the pressure in the room rise at your response, “Since I hooked it up to the TV?”
No. You must play.
“Why?” You wait. No response. There’s something wrong, something dangerous about what he’s asking you to do. You’re not sure what it is, but the feeling you’re getting from that TV makes you want to run and hide.
“I’m not going to play,” You hesitate, “I still don’t trust you.”
Annoying.
Boring.
You shake your head, a bit put off by him trying to make you feel bad about your decision.
“I don’t care,” You glare, “You’re not gonna’ make me feel bad about this. I read about all of the things you did online, remember? You can connect: ‘through cables and cords,’ like Alex wrote. You’ve been acting strange ever since I picked up the cartridge.”
Play the game.
He’s getting impatient again, you don’t care, being too tired to put up with his attitude any longer.
“Play it yourself.” You spit, pointing at the console on the ground, “It’s hooked up. I know you can turn it on.”
I cannot.
“Listen, I’m not letting you drag me into whatever shit you dragged Alex into. He looked like he had been to hell and back.” You huff and put your head in your hands, “I’m literally helping you right now, trying to free you because you asked me to do it for you. Even if it doesn’t benefit me in the end.”
Flailing your arms around in exhaustion, you almost want to cry again.
“And with the way you keep treating me, it’s turning out that I probably won’t get anything out of this exchange. Even though you told me you’d hold up your end of the deal.” Turning defiantly away from the screen, you shrug in the direction of the doorway, trying to display your lack of care for the situation anymore.
“Either turn it on yourself, or stay in there forever for all I care.”
…
Are you sure?
“Oh, fuck off, BEN.” You walk off without another word, feeling frustration push itself up and quickly take over your emotional state.
The mechanical whir of the console turning on makes you scoff, and you glance back one last time to see the starting screen of Majora’s Mask displayed on the TV.
“Fucking liar.”

Ben drowned x Reader: Part 3
Soulmate AU - Implied female reader
Ignoring Ben is never good for anyone involved, but you’ve somehow managed to stay away from him for much longer than he wanted you to. How can someone as simple as you annoy him to no end? Not to worry, though. He always knows how to get what he wants.

BEN Drowned
This human was proving herself to be even more irritating than he could have anticipated.
She wanted to talk to him, correct? So why was she ignoring him now?
After their last conversation had ended so abruptly, she had been avoiding the room he was stuck in. He brushed it off at first; humans were desperate, self-interested creatures. If she really wanted a soulmate as bad as he could tell she did, it was only a matter of time before she came back. He hoped she would beg, this time.
Except, she didn’t come back as fast as he expected her to.
It was enraging, really. She had made him wait almost a week now, even managing to avoid him past the point where he had begun to make noises come from the TV. He did this for hours at a time, as soon as he heard the front door opening and closing, playing loud static or eerie, high pitched beeps that were drawn out for so long that even he got annoyed by the sound. When that didn’t work, he started playing the subtle clicking of a gun, which some moments later would be followed by the sound of a gunshot; a method he knew that worked against humans time and time again. Something as simple as sound often triggered traumatic memories, the same as those he knew she experienced when those men broke in.
And yet, she didn’t show up. Not once did she check to see if her head was playing tricks on her, or come to cuss him out like so many others did in the past. The most that he received as a response was the sound of another door shutting to block out the sounds, which he assumed was her bedroom.
In other words: why the fuck wasn’t she reacting to him?
Even if it was the case that she was simply different from other humans, it still didn’t explain her actions. He had already deduced they were soulmates, that much was clear from the bothersome attempts she had made to contact him before; so shouldn’t she be pleading with him to speak to her? At the very least, she should be somewhat excited at the prospect of him being free, so that she could talk to him more often.
He was disappointed. Disappointed that she wasn’t interested in him. That only pissed him off more.
So, now, he had resorted to doing the one thing he hadn’t wanted to do; and opening the connection was not difficult, it was more-so that this disrespectful little girl was making everything so much more difficult than necessary because of her pathetic feelings. Opening the connection only made the bond between them stronger, and he did not want that. But, he wanted to be released, and what other choice was there? He would have to settle for this, no matter how much it disgusted him, if it made her finally give in.
You can imagine how displeased he was when she denied him access.
He was absolutely livid. He was ready to make her get the damn cartridge by force, but knowing he didn’t have the power to do so, began the assault of persistant stabbing at the blocked connection. He knew she could feel it, just like he had felt when she had done the same.
He continued throughout the day, not letting up until finally, finally, she showed up in front of him once again.

BEN Drowned
God. Your head hurt so bad that you almost felt bad about bothering him so much when you first tried making contact.
Dropping your purse on the floor as soon as you entered, slamming the front door shut, you rubbed at your aching temples and made your way to the living room. Walking like a zombie, you slumped yourself onto the comfortable couch cushions, sighing deeply as you crossed your arms.
“What do you want?” Avoiding him the past week had not been easy. Obviously, he was upset with you, but you could argue the same for him. Especially now that the nightmares that had previously been going away were returning from the many times he had awoken you with the sound of gunshots.
Stop ignoring me.
“Maybe if you weren’t being such an annoying prick, I wouldn’t have had to.”
You’ll regret that.
“Oh yeah?” She sat up, beginning the first movements of getting up from her seat.
“Sounds like you want another week or so to yourself. No contact whatsoever. I can take it.”
No, you couldn’t. Your head hurt so bad that you could’ve left the conversation right then and there just to grab something to dull the pain. But, he didn’t need to know that.
Funnily enough, despite your efforts, he knew you couldn’t either.
No, you can’t.
Find the cartridge.
You huffed out a long sigh through your nose, finding yourself wondering once more how the hell he managed to figure you out like that. You thought you were fairly good at hiding your emotions in times like this, but maybe you were wrong.
“We already talked about this.” You snarled at him, “I’m not doing it.”
Why not?
“It’s too much of a hassle.” You shook your head at the TV and leaned back into the couch.
“I don’t even know where it is, for one. On top of that, I would probably have to call out of work in order to go get it; do you even know how much gas money costs right now?” You’re frustrated that he expected you to just drop everything for his sake, after all, time was money in this world; You had wasted enough of that when you were recovering.
I know where it is.
Your mouth hangs open like a gaping fish, blinking at the TV before you stood up and pointed at the screen accusingly.
“You… You knew where it was and didn’t say anything this entire time?!”
You did not want to retrieve it.
“Because, you won’t work with me!” You open your hand and gesture to the TV, “You just gave me an example! I mean, fuck, BEN; Do you even like me? We’re supposed to be soulmates and you just seem like you hate me!”
You are mistaken.
“Bullshit!” You’re openly yelling, now. Your neighbors are definitely going to issue a noise complaint, but you could care less right now. If you could, you would make this TV explode and be done with it.
“I told you, I’m not doing all of this by myself just for you to leave after it’s done. I don’t want to put in the effort if there’s no point!”
You want me to stay?
When the words register, you stop. Strangely enough, the anger that was erupting like a volcano before now quiets down into a dormant state. Why did he sound so genuine? Why were you hesitating?
It’s what you wanted, right? That’s what you had been conveying to him, at the very least; even if you hadn’t outright said it. You wanted him to stay, that instinctual feeling told you so, but your brain was still unsure. Those two men were dead, weren’t they? Ben had killed them. Made them disappear off the face of the earth, too.
Again, there was that instinctual need, the one telling you that he had done it for you. That wasn’t supposed to make you feel better, you knew that, but it did.
You wanted him to stay so bad that ignoring him during the past week took up all of your mental power, since every other cell inside of you screamed to get back to him; you would get him the stupid fucking cartridge if it meant that he would stick around.
Inside the screen, he’s watching the subtle emotions pass over your face as you run through everything in your mind. Thankfully, it seemed like his plan was working. You were taking the bait.
“...Yeah.” You whisper, staring at the screen wearily, scanning it all over as if it would swallow you whole at your admittance.
“Yeah. Please, stay.” There it was, the begging he was hoping for.
Then, I will stay.
“Are you sure? You’re lying.” You feel a piece of yourself bend and snap, hating that you’re portraying yourself so weakly in front of him. Deep down, you can feel the swirling of doubt from your decision.
I am not.
“...I don’t want to go through that again. When you… died.” She bites the words out hesitantly.
“How am I supposed to believe you?” You don’t want to sound like you’re begging for an answer that you want to hear, but the way your voice quivers certainly makes it seem that way.
I will make the connection stronger, if that is what you want.
Your eyes widen a fraction, rereading the words over and over again.
“...How?” He’s got you. You know it, and he knows it too. A part of you screeches at you for it, but you’re too far to go back, now.
I can collect the rest of his soul.
You furrow your brows, still directly in front of the TV as you contemplate what he means.
“...That’s one of those ‘pieces’ that you left behind, then.”
Yes.
“And his soul, Ben’s soul, will make our connection better?”
Correct.
“I’m still not sure if I believe you.”
You will not know until it is done.
“...Shit.” You’re convinced, convinced to the point that it’s making you crazy enough to dial your bosses number, fully ready to call out of work and get the cartridge.
“Tell me where it is.”
