Much to the detriment of everyone else.

These skills let you become a monster on the field, and you know he regretted it everyday yet could never bring himself to kill you himself, much like how when it came down to it, you couldn't bring yourself to kill him when you were ordered to.

So Bro doesn't seem very chatty, and when he does talk its mostly through signs. Does he not speak aloud because he can't, or is it because he doesn't feel like it/doesn't see a reason to? Also, what is his opinion on John and his dad?

It's a bit of both, turns out removing a magical collar by brute force can really fuck up your throat, but even without that, there wasn't much reason to speak.

No one wanted to hear what the 'attack dog' had to say.

Your thoughts on John and his dad? Without Mr. Egbert's help you probably would have found a way to permanently kill a phoenix. It would have been on accident, but everyone knew leaving you to raise a child alone would have been a very bad idea. Including the kid himself. Your thoughts on Mr. Egbert are usually favorable, although you tend to get annoyed with him if you stick around for too long.

As for John....

Your ears pick up the sound of him and Dave talking as they watch you leave for the night.

John: Bet we could do it now.

Dave: And our long history of failure hasn't taught us that sneaking up on that bastard isn't damn near impossible?

With a roll of your eyes you think about how they're both pests and you might just have to scare the shit out of them (again) to discourage them from trying to follow you (again). They've been attempting to follow you since they were old enough to reach the window and climb out of it.

You nod your head as you think back to all the times Dave has ever poofed up, while there were plenty of examples. One memory sticks out to you in particular.

Back before Dave could fly.

This first time he had basically challenged you instead of clinging to your leg and waiting for you to grab him some food. He had ran in front of you; his cheeks puffed out, feathers floofed, arms and wings spread wide as he blocked you from the apple tree.

You were understandably confused as you tried to figure out why he was so agitated...

Later you learned after he climbed up the tree to get the apple, he just wanted to get it himself and instead of using his words he just floofed and waited until you backed off to get his prize.

You were always so careful when it came to her, she always seemed so delicate in your eyes that you were afraid if you moved too quickly or roughly you could break her. So you always stayed so still so damn still.

That time was no different as you held out your hand, palm up, at her request and she placed something in the middle of it. You stare at her hands before looking up to her face and seeing a grim determination set on her soft features.

It was wrong. So so wrong.

When she opened her mouth you gave her all your attention.

"If you're serious about leaving… use this to find my son." And her grim determination slowly turned into such a deep sadness you wanted to do nothing more than to wrap your arms around her and squeeze. But you didn't move other than to nod your head. She smiled at that, it didn't reach her eyes.

Your path was set. You would leave. You would take Dave and find Jane's son.

She used her hands to make yours curl around the object in your hand. And that was that. You never saw her again after that moment as you had to plan your next move carefully.

You've been regularly dropping Dave off at this house at night and picking him up again in the morning since finding Egbert's home all those years ago. You avoid going inside as much as possible.

Dave: When I met him before the whole dying and rebirth thing, he was just a young guy that didn’t know a fucking thing about fighting. Just ran in with his teeth and claws and hoped he was enough of a stubborn jackass to not get killed.

It was working okay enough for him, as he wasn’t dead yet by the time you ran into him....you were actually...going to kill him yourself until you saw how absolutely pathetic he looked. So of course you took him under your *wing* so to speak and the rest is history. Now look at you, roles are reversed and he’s teaching you how to use a sword.
