That could be it! Trends taking longer to get onto the island, while today technology makes it come instantly.
I thought the vinyl was interesting because in my own experience the only people with vinyl are either musicheads or audiophiles. It would be cool if the characters were, but it's also possible it was inherited. Perhaps vinyl is popular in the design because it looks cooler/more obvious in terms of aesthetic. Vinyl does look cooler in characters homes rather than a CD stand. Or perhaps some developer bias has shown through...
The family picture of Pablo and Rafael made me start thinking about how old characters are and when the game takes place. I’m certain we will never get a specific age or time but we can make guesses. The game is definitely post-2000s (due to the clothes and technology present) and there are also references to 19XX multiple times.

The main thing about the family photo is that it looks like it was taken in the 80s or even in the late 1970s based on their mom’s glasses. However, their dad’s hairstyle (short in the front, long in the back) was popular in the 1980s and had fallen out of favor in the 90s. Which ultimately means that both Pablo and Rafael were probably born in the 1980s or perhaps 70s depending on exactly when the photo was taken.
Let’s say for arguments sake that the photo was taken 1990 and Pablo at the youngest is 10 (born 1980), that would still make him in his 40s by 2020 or in his 30s in the 2010s (which I find probable if the game takes place in the 2010s).
[Edit: Having gone and checked, the photo says 19XCVI which could translate to 1996. But, it’s odd that the year is obfuscated in such an obvious way as with easily translatable roman numerals. If it is roman numerals, then does that mean you can translate all the other dates with roman numerals too? Or is it just this one? If it’s just this one, then why just this one and why hide it behind something so easy? Moreover, why is the fashion inconsistent with the date?]
But then again, magic and gods exist in this world so who’s to say that the timeline is the same as ours. Something I also noticed was that a lot of townsfolk have vinyl records and vinyl record players despite CDs taking over the market (outside of music fans who still stick with vinyl in some cases). Plus, I believe that the image is intentionally nebulous to keep the game “out-of-time” so to say. Does anybody have other facts or guesses?

It might just be me then lol. That's not what my family dressed like. It reminds me of all the photos we have from the 80s. I asked my mom about it since I thought it was odd and she's the one who thought of the 70s. My parents are Danish and Polish so maybe they have different experiences with the fashion at the time. Plus, my parents were in the US at the time so that might be why they have different experiences. The 90s makes sense timeline-wise since then Pablo would be in early-mid 30s if the game took place in the 2020s. I still can't get over the way the picture was dated as 19XCVI though. 👀

There's something incredibly funny about Lasombra couriers who were esteemed members of the Sabbat who aren't allowed to talk about it or gloat because you know, and every time someone calls them a 'nobody shovelhead' they're just like:
Tumblr media
Sullivan: Yeah I'm Camarilla now, kinda glad to be away from those psychopaths in the Sabbat.
Someone: Well you weren't REALLY Sabbat because you never got initiated --
Sullivan: FUCK YOU

children clearly understand just fine but it’s astonishing to me how many otherwise sensible adult people don’t GET that traditional “redemption arcs” (very christian idea) arent really applicable structures in either steven universe or she ra, both of which have a central moral thesis that evil isn’t something you ARE it’s something you DO, and (up to a point) can choose to stop
