Lol while AM vs AFO begins, AFO unknowingly loses his greatest asset to Izuku and the heroes.
AFO: 😭 But I am the Demon King! My plan must work!
AM: 😬 no one cares! Shigaraki's wish to do good has overpowered your manipulations AFO!
AFO: 😭 NOO!
Meanwhile, Shig enjoys Midoriya's praise and tries to convince Kurogiri to be on board with his story that they were doing good all along.
It's only when Eraser flashes his quirk at Kurogiri that he notices Oboro underneath the mist and shit starts to go down for a second time.

@mikeellee that's a hilarious idea for a crack fic. AFO would be furious, AM would be proud of how good the "new up and coming hero" is doing.
Meanwhile, Shig: ☹️
Until Izuku tells him well done for all the good work.
Then Shig: 😁 Thank you Midoriya and it was totally intentional - that's the best part.
Kurogiri: 🤨

@mikeellee completely agree - one of the only occasions of foreshadowing in MHA I can think of with Hori is the Dabi Todoroki situation.
He didn't set up other villain reveals like Shigaraki is a Shimura or KurOboro at all which makes me believe that these two reveals didn't have the same level of planning behind them.
subtle ways to include foreshadowing
one character knowing something offhandedly that they shouldn't, isn't addressed until later
the crow rhyme
colours!! esp if like, blue is evil in your world and the mc's best friend is always noted to wear blue...betrayal?
write with the ending in mind
use patterns from tragic past events to warn of the future
keep the characters distracted! run it in the background until the grand reveal
WEATHER.
do some research into Chekhov's gun
mention something that the mc dismisses over and over
KEEP TRACK OF WHAT YOU PUT. don't leave things hanging.
unreliable characters giving information that turn out to be true
flowers and names with meanings
anything with meanings actually
metaphors. if one character describes another as "a real demon" and the other turns out to be the bad guy, you're kind of like...ohhh yeahhh
anyways add anything else in the tags

I swear, half of the final arc in BNHA is just fucking flashbacks.
Like if any of this stuff WAS important, why didn't any of it get covered earlier in the story?
Oh wait, it's because it was all wasted on Bakugou and trying to make him look better. Every time a flashback showed up in the arc I actually got angry and frustrated because this should've been talked about before and not in a fucking flashback.
Can you imagine if a show like Avatar did something like this for its final battle with the Firelord? I know damn well it wouldn't have been as impacting as it was.
Another example of Horikoshi writing himself into a corner. He failed to give these characters proper development and exposure when it would have mattered- too busy making everything about Bakugou- so now he's scrambling to do so now to force us into caring about them.
I have my issues with ATLA too, but not even Bryke would pull some shit like that. Toph, their most underdeveloped main character, had 100x the effort put into her than the literal protagonist of MHA. And their finale (especially the Agni Kai) left an impact on all of us

MHA chapter 420 rant
New chapter new rant it's become somewhat of a thing at this point 😭
So hori's out here deflating any stakes or tension as always. I personally hated what happend last chapter with Izuku losing both his arms but I did wish for hori to continue on the path he chose instead of completely reversing it with some bs in this chapter. Heck I don't understand how Eri even had enough energy to heal his arms considering it was stated chapters before that she couldn't and shouldn't help Izuku it wasn't her fight and neither should she be forced to watch what's going on but here we are.
Tumblr media
Heroes are hypocrites when it comes to Eri and she deserves better. Oh Eri the ever so lasting plot device. As someone that likes Eri's character and wished for her trauma and what she went through to be explored this is just bs and shows that the heroes are incompetent hypocrites at their jobs for allowing Eri to mutilate herself (the same thing overhaul did to himself) so she can be useful to these people who she views as her saviours?!?!?! Let's not even tall about the fact that ECTOPLASM stated that he helped her with that and allowed her to do that like?!?!? You're an adult who is supposed to be supervising the child and you almost failed to stop her from running away into the battlefield but allowed her to do that to herself. Let's also talk about how aizawa horribly failed as a guardian like its clearly stated in the chapter that she did want she did because she was inspired by aizawa and how he cut his leg off so she mimicked him so she can be helpful?!?! Aizawa isn't angry, worried or disappointed but shocked and that's it nothing else he doesn't even reprimand her like seriously 😑.
Tumblr media
Present mic and kurogiri deserves better. We still don't know where present mic is but he deserves better than this I still hate how his feelings aren't acknowledged in this bs and he is just there pushed to the side as support. Kurogiri is a mix at this point they seem to realise that oh oboro is dead he ain't coming back but kurogiri is acting on memories that haven't died and to be honest Iam sick of hori drawing the same memory panel over and over we should just get new content show us them play fighting or doing something that friends do idk 🤷‍♀️
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Wasted potential aizawa at this point. I lasted made a post about aizawas wasted potential but dam does it really show and basically at this point hori reduced all the characters involved in the kurogiri situation to just that and it's sad like we could of had more and we should of. Aizawa was doomed from the start as he was hori's mouthpiece which sucks
Tumblr media
Iam not a fan of everyone coming in to fight AFO. I already hate the fact that AFO is back but having everyone who hasn't had a big moment or can still fight yet come into the fight is horrible. Iam ok with having a few characters come in but having some endgame avengers type of thing is horrible especially because class 1A and izuku aren't shown to have a strong bond a lot of the time it's one of the reasons why the vigilante arc fails and why a lot of other moments concerning class 1A and izuku fail.
Tumblr media
Iam a fan of the civilians trying to help however they can but no inko?!?!!?!!. I loved that we got the page of civilians genuinely wanting to help Izuku and offering their shirts to stop the bleeding also even though we don't get much from the all might guy I genuinely loved the development he has gone through. Sadly, I was expecting to see inko in this chapter and considering we had a whole page dedicated to the civilians it's sad that we didn't get any update on inko as she was probably there watching what happend to her son
Tumblr media
Eri's dream. I loved that Eri's dream is something way outside of heroics and it's something that doesn't involve her quirk at all. It makes me remember of izuku holding her hand and telling her that he supports her dream. I wonder if Eri and jirou hang out often or anything considering that jirou is Eri's inspiration or if present mic also inspired Eri. it's sad that Eri's character is never truly explored considering what happend to her this chapter and the double standards that are with both heroes and villains.
Tumblr media
ALSO MONOMA YOU DESERVE BETTER YALL TELLING ME THAT DENKI ALREADY QUIRK EXHAUSTED IS OUT HERE FIGHTING BUT MONOMA CANT FOR SOME REASON IS VILE

This is a traumatised six year old who went from being used by Overhaul to being used by the heroes.
Who went from being mutilated by Overhaul for her quirk to mutilating herself for the benefit of the heroes.
And we aren't meant to see this as tragic?
One thing I have issue with is Hori's writing of Eri, in general. Her quirk is a narrative breaking level of strong.
But aside from that Hori doesn't explore her trauma and PTSD she would have from Overhaul in any kind of depth so many fans look over this when they shouldn't.
It also makes her appear kind of flat as a character hence why people complain of her being a perfect victim. Since Hori doesnt allow her to show the ugly emotions that would naturally come with her level of trauma.
I love that she is a ride or die for Izuku (Izuku needs more of those in canon) but this is deeply disturbing.
This move from canon shows that her trauma with Overhaul runs far deeper than Hori will ever show. It also shows that the heroes aren't helping her with it but continuing to use her.
BNHA 420: Nothing About This is 'Okay'
It never fails.
After BNHA 420, I'm definitely done. The only thing that's stopping me from being OFFICIALLY done is the sunken cost fallacy. And some nostalgia in that I used to LOVE BNHA. I mean I still do, I love early BNHA, but the ending is really bad.
This last chapter pretty much did everything I feared. And I was just about to eat a slice of humble pie when it SEEMED like the author faked out the idea that Eri's Rewind would be utilized. But as it turns out... I WAS RIGHT! XD They used her after all.
For once I am not happy to be right. Because what went down was just so WRONG.
Because Eri almost seems GLAD to be used. And these so-called heroes are ENCOURAGING it. She literally mutilated herself just because she thought it would 'help' Deku and the others. This child hurt herself, a child way, way younger than the high-school aged 'heroes', hurt herself. And nobody's worried about it. Not even Aizawa! I don't count that look of shock as worry, otherwise he would have been a lot more upset with her.
But no, he just accepted what this little girl did to herself. No moral qualms about it whatsoever.
Using Eri no matter what was always going to be horrible, but the way it's been done is even more horrible than I could have ever imagined. And it has an extra horrible implication.
Hurt yourself to help people, and let that person hurt themself, even if they're SIX YEARS OLD because it's a 'rational' decision. That is such bullshit btw, how in the hell is that 'rational'? That's actually extremely concerning and yet nobody is even concerned, they just think it's a heroic act? My ass.
I'm still pissed that this little moeblob is truly an example of a perfect little victim who just seems innately good even though she really shouldn't be after everything she's been through. It makes ZERO sense and I really hate it.
I really don't like Eri or her role in this arc as many others are saying now, and I never have. People love to give me flak for it, but I don't care anymore. This is definitely the last straw for me and it just validated that my concerns were right all along.
An adorable little plot device that was always meant to be used for Deku and the heroes. Even though she was used by Overhaul, it apparently makes it 'okay' if the heroes use her because they're heroes. If anything, it makes them just as bad as Overhaul, and if anything, this makes them WORSE than Overhaul.
Overhaul at least never pretended that what he was doing to Eri was okay, but the heroes are such hypocrites that they're using her too and calling it 'rational' and an act of heroism on her part. It's not.
And the worst part is the fandom seems to believe that this makes Eri 'so good' when no, it's deeply concerning for a child to do such a thing to herself. Her actions should NOT be praised, and I don't like the kid, but that doesn't mean I want to see her hurt herself!
It's not okay. None of this is okay. And I am once again, really not okay with this.

So... Izuku has his arms back apparently. Eri came and fixed him I guess
Hi @sapphic-agent 👋,
Well... that nullifies the point of Izuku's suffering spectacularly.
I was never a fan of Izuku losing his arms in the first place because it seemed like rather out a left field and a distasteful way to nullify Izuku being able to fight at all (along with his quirklessness.)
However, seeing Eri rip her horn out to help Izuku and Aizawa letting her - that puts a bad taste in my mouth.
Didn't Overhaul literally cut Eri up to get at her quirk within her DNA? So Eri literally pulling out the part of herself where her quirks power is stored to help the heroes in this leak is strikingly similar to what Overhaul did to her...
Are we meant to see this as heroic? Because I don't. I see a deeply traumatised little girl who went from being used by Overhaul to being used by the heroes.
P.s. Aizawa is an exceedingly poor guardian of Eri. Her safety has never been his number one priority. This is especially the case here, seeing as he is content to use her powers in this manner. Dadzawa is a lie in canon, especially when it comes to Eri.
P.p.s Adding to the bad taste - Bakugou is allowed a bullshit revival and a bullshit victory against AFO without losing any limbs. Izuku? Loses BOTH his goddamm arms in a trippy, dream memory sequence with Shig and isn't allowed to save Shig or beat him or AFO.
Just uuuugh. What even is this story anymore?

What a horrible day to have eyes. I go into the anti Aizawa tag and I'm greeted with this.
Tumblr media
You know, I don't even completely disagree about Eri. I love her, but Horikoshi didn't write her well. No one's doubting that. But if we're talking about her trauma not being handled well, she's far from the only case. Not to mention her quirk was the reason as to why she was abused, so the point about her power is irrelevant in my opinion.
(Also, the complaint about her being a "perfect" abuse victim is weird... She's a child. Children usually are perfect victims because they're either completely powerless or their innocence is being manipulated and taken advantage of or both. It's also funny how OP doesn't complain about Izuku too because at least Eri has some form of agency. At least she's allowed to look at Overhaul as her abuser. Izuku is reduced to supporting and validating his abuser's feelings. Why is trauma handled incorrectly in MHA until the minute it comes to Izuku's lack of negative feelings towards Bakugou)
But even considering all of that, blaming her for Aizawa's shortcomings as a character is wrong.
I genuinely don't know where this came from. They don't even have that many scenes together and we've almost never seen him being a "cutesy" dad to her. We hardly ever see him even act paternally towards her, he's mostly seen escorting her and being by her side. If anything, that sounds way more like fanon Dadzawa. And considering a lot of the manga was changed to meet the fans' expectations of certain characters (specifically for Aizawa and Bakugou), if he has been changed into a "cutesy dad," then that's the fandom's fault for perpetuating that trope, NOT Eri's.
But more importantly, complex? Interesting? AIZAWA?
OP is acting like Aizawa's role in the story isn't being whatever Horikoshi needs him to be at the time. Hell, most of his overall dialogue is commentary for telling the audience how they're supposed to feel. Part of the reason Bakugou's behavior is never condemned is because Aizawa is always conveniently placed to shut down any criticism about it and defend him.
You'll also notice that despite challenging "everything Deku's heroism is about in a nuanced way," Aizawa never actually tries to teach Izuku differently. He condemns and scolds him for it but never actually explains what's wrong with his concept of heroism and tries to teach him differently. So what exactly is he challenging? Because Izuku still holds onto his ideas of heroism and Aizawa never tried to correct it even prior to Eri.
So instead of blaming a six-year-old who wasn't even given that many scenes in the story, maybe take a look at your favorite's failings as a character.

My actual worst nightmare.
If MHA was a good manga with a competent author, Izuku would use prosthetics and still fulfill his dream. But considering how the first volume went- everyone telling him he couldn't do something because of a "disability" (I use that word so lightly because in every other fictional setting it's not a disability. Even though heroes usually have powers, heroes like Batman and Iron-Man have always been part of the norm, expected to pop up even. Horikoshi decided to make that a minority, and then never address it) without even letting him try- I sincerely doubt it.
I fear Hori won't even give him prosthetics (don't ask me why, it's just a feeling I have that he would put the fact that Izuku has no arms on display to make it "sentimental." Giving him proper assistive devices would be too humane for him to do to Izuku), have him quit heroics, and then make him watch from the sidelines as Bakugou becomes the #1.
(Of course, he'll try to frame it as Bakugou honoring Izuku by fulfilling his dream for him. Yet again giving Bakugou the spotlight while Izuku's pain and trauma is ignored)
And without his quirk, that's just more incentive for Horikoshi to push the story that way. Basically undoing everything he set up in the beginning of his story. The victim gets stripped of the power he earned, becomes physically disabled with no form of support, and witnesses his abuser get everything he wants.
Somehow, that's more twisted than anything Gege could have come up with.
(Or he'll somehow take it all back which means everything was for nothing in the end)

Once again, Aizawa's character is used to point out what the audience is supposed to see even if it makes no sense for Aizawa to be the one making these observations here because "logic" or something.
How would Aizawa know Shouto lost the drive to fight since his fight with Izuku? He had no context for what happened with that confrontation. Shouto's only fight before this fight with Bakugou but after Izuku was against Iida and Shouto won. And it wouldn't make sense to use flashy, predictable attacks against Iida because he is faster than Shouto. As far as Aizawa should know, this is the first fight where Shouto's performance was lackluster.
Also Aizawa praising Bakugou's battle instincts when Bakugou literally just put his extremely flammable hand on an arm that could burst into flames at any moment is absurd. Aizawa has no reason to know Shouto wouldn't use fire in battle considering Shouto activated it twice already during the sports festival.
It's way too much telling over showing. And to make it worse it's coming from a character that shouldn't have this information which makes it even more jarring

You know scenes such as Aoyama's traitor reveal, Izuku vs 1-A, and Shirakumo's reveal? Well those are scenes that are supposed to make me feel things, but I don't I've seen how terrible these characters are, and how badly paced the story is that it doesn't allow me to process what's happening And it's like, I WANT to feel for these characters! I HAVE emotions waiting to come out! But it's all fabricated because these scenes are HOLLOW!
Hi. Funny you mentioned that bc I was thinking about Shig and his own backstory, actually, the time he stayed with afo.
It is all thanks to a wierd post saying how Shig has cavid and smells bad "hahaha he has no hygiene" and while I know is bs....we never saw the "mundane" part of Shig's life.
Not that I believe in shit as "hahaha he is an incel and never bath" but we never saw him in his off days. AFO(if we go by this stupidity of him wanting to steal Shig's body) would want Shig to at least be healthy to survive and carry his missions.
He took showers and whatnot...not bc "its a luxury. He used the finest products for his body" but bc it was a necessity.
But we never saw how Shig acts in his off days- or if he evem have one of thoses- Shig making food for himself, taking a shower, watching smth on tv non related to heroes or villains....could actually help make us understand him, at least a lil.
The same goes to Izu. He can't catch a break...if he does smth awsome, he wont get credit and shall never be mentioned....and we are supposed to be ok with this.
Its not as if I want people to grovel to Izuku, but I want him to get credit for his good deeds, for his good work. But Hori cant have this...pain, and more pain are in the course for Izu....and it doesnt help the story.
Like suddenly Hori went "Spinner is oppressed bc he is a mutant oh no" who the fuck cares for Spinner at this point? While his own MC still thinks his life worth less, his abuser wont suffr any consequences and class A1 is ruined for me.
That scene where BK guide them and even circle Izu as if they were attack him...like what happened in Aldera...was gross. Really gross. It serves to nothing...and BK demonized AM to save his face.
Aoyama is quirkless and a spy and this is so dumb...
1) how Aoyama talk to AFO without anyone knowing?
2) who Aoyama answers too?
3) anyone here really care for Aoyama?
4) The spy storyline went to nowhere. What was the point?
Note how Hori prefer to make Aoyama quirkless then explore what Izu had to endure with BK and Aldera...bc he can't make BK be the bad guy, ever.
God Hori is a horible writer.
