You had never been scared of Armin. He is capable; you know that much – and of many things, in fact. But his demure, almost sunshine-like nature sits flushly at the forefront of your image of him, and, above all things, what you feel foremost when you are in his presence is safe.

And you got hurt, this time. Streaks of purple upon your skin, nary unhideable and inescapable, and you knew, clearly, that he would see it – you knew that he would be concerned, you knew that he would stop you to look at it; his fixating, immobilising gaze pulling you taut as he would analyse the mar on your skin.

It is not like you are afraid of him now – you would never, not of him; but a whiplash, you firmly believe, is in order.

“Who did this to you?"

It's not the way he says it. It's not the way his fingers twitch, just a fraction, against your skin. It's not the way he stills, so stringent and sudden; his muscles seizing into a freeze that pulls all of your attention to him.

It's the way his eyes shift: this swirling, unfamiliar shadow crossing over his irises, turning the ocean within his gaze into a strange, desolate river. It makes you think, just briefly, of the fate of the one who had put their hands on you.

Ensnared in his question, your breath baits the answer in your throat, and it stutters, audibly so; it makes Armin sigh, his eyelashes fluttering for just a moment, and then he leans closer – ever so slightly, the distance meagre and menial, but you feel your body shift with it, succumbing to the attention he demands of you. You watch him, you watch his expression shift between a cold anguish to a hot grief, and suddenly his hand is at your cheek, warm and soothing.

Then he speaks again; quieter, this time – more careful. "Who did this to you?" He asks of you, and as your lips part around the words, you know that you have no choice of keeping the answer to yourself.

Erwin vs Armin revival maybe the most pointless aot argument. No matter what, Armin would have lived. Eren's entire purpose , before he was even born , was to keep mikasa and armin alive, he would have used the paths and the power of the attack titan to keep armin alive at any cost.

I personally believe that if levi didn't make the choice to save armin, eren would have had himself attack levi at full strength and as badass as levi is, mikasa and eren together could take him , especially considering levi was more or less out of blades.

The other way this could go is eren could have himself prevent floch from reaching the roof with erwin or even hiding bertoldt from levi (which would be complicated given they'd have to steal the serum).

The most likely path he'd take , I think, would be to send the titans left on zekes left to finish erwin off. I'm unclear as to whether he could do this without royal blood however once he had the founder on his side, he would be able to do this. Maybe he'd intervine earlier, if these paths failed.

Eren is the second most powerful charecter by the end of the show and would use everything he had to protect Armin and mikasa . Erwin is dead.

Homies forever?

Did your homie come up to you one day all excited with an illegal book about the outside world, and your homie didn't give a fuck about government and law. Then your eyes saw the shine in those obviously gorgeous soul awakening blue eyes. Hearing him talk about the outside world with excitement made you want to earn something you never thought you needed.and from then on ,you shared dreams.

You protect your homie from bullies,you take care of him, you want to be with him forever and explore the outside world with your homie.

Your homie gave you a purpose in life which you want to achieve,you want to destroy all the danger beyond the wall just so you can make your dream come true.

You join the millitary with your homie and together you graduate, u hold hands, probably have gotten the most intimate with your homie than any girl that people have started creating rumours about your closeness with homie.

You and your homie want to join the recon corps,

when the titan was picking up your homie to eat him , even in half unconscious State, missing a leg, and hurt pretty bad, you were ready to save him, even if it meant to give up your life.

You were ready to give up your life and saved your homie but went down the drain instead.

In the pit of the Titan you realised you haven't given up on your dream, dreams with homie, that enraged you so much you turned into a titan

you recognised your homie hand while being unconscious,and interwined his hand back

A few hours later your homie saves your life again .

Your homie is the only one who could wake up the sleeping Beauty inside the Titan and bring you back to reality

Your homie wakes you by reminding you the dreams you guys shared.

And throughout your homie was with you, he got you out of the Titans nape after you blocked the hole in the wall of rose.

and later you and your homie are in recon crops but with new problems.

Your homie's speech during female titan arc motivated you so much that you were ready to abandon your humanity to capture Annie any how.

Seasons later your homie got molested by some old pervert just for the sake of plan where you and historia would be safe.

He even killed a few people to get you back from rod reiss.

Then the mission to retake wall Maria came;

Your homie saw your shaking hand and decided to help, motivated you and with his pretty face, blue eyes and beautiful hair ,you calmed down.

You tell him how you were motivated by the shine in his eyes when they were 8-9 years old.

Seeing your homie's Crisp body made you devastated, from each corner , and both physically and mentally.

You see your homie struggling to breath and now with new hope you are screaming for him to continue breathing.

You run to hug your homie when he wakes up . A few Tears of relief washes over your eyes.

You guys travel years in path , just you and your homie , witnessing all the beauty the world could offer and looking at your homie's happiness have your chest swelling with love , affection and maybe pride.

One of the reasons I'm so drawn to Armin's 'second life' as a titan shifter is because of the extreme angst of it.

He wanted to die with a purpose, he came to terms with death the moment the plan formed on his head. He wanted to die for a good cause.

But his choice was taken from him. His efforts were essentially mocked. They brought him back against his will just to later find out his lifespan would be of 13 years. A second life with an expiring date. Not only that but also the fact he had to deal with the hatred and the hardships of a decision that wasn't his.

His survival was the baby steps of a military uprising! Even if he wasn't the biggest cause, it all started the moment Levi chose Erwin to die.

And for me, the most painful part, was Armin became something he loathed - an oppressor of sorts. He became the same war weapon that caused the destruction of his home and loss of his grandfather as a consequence.

And someone like Armin, who went through an SA, sees himself in another loss of his body autonomy. His body isn't his, it's the survey corps'. He can't choose to die a purposeful death anymore, he is fated to die as a mere tool for another future shifter.

I'm happy the ending took the titan out of his body, but the mind never fully heals from that...

Honestly, Marco was a plot device for Jean's development, but I can see Jean considering Marco a best friend due to grief. They connected fast and Jean seemed to be quite vulnerable with Marco. I can see them as best friends despite me seeing more of a romantic vibe coming from them. So I believe Jean believes Marco to be his biggest friend.

Connie and Sasha are more like siblings to him. Still a deep connection though! Jean loves them dearly and the sibling elements are big (he fills the role of an older brother almost, taking care of younger and a bit crazier siblings). Jean acts tough and collected near them out of protection and care.

Now...Reiner. I think Jean had a huge amount of admiration for Reiner, much like many other cadets. Jean saw him as a strong, honorable comrade (before the reveal of the titans of course). I don't think he saw him as a friend per se, but a comrade for life (does it make sense?).

Armin and Jean's interactions are very complex and don't have that much screentime. Jean seems to have a huge life debt with Armin due to the blonde saving his life (although Armin does not see this as a debt, of course). I think he grew to really respect Armin and I can see them becoming very close friends after the canonverse ending.

Eren and Jean were silly rivals, but I think Jean did care for Eren in some level. He had respect for Eren due to their military careers and all the helpful things Eren did to humanity in the walls (of course, that was before Eren went a little crazy on the head)

To sum it up, I think Jean believes his best friend is Marco, he has a strong brother bond with Connie and Sasha, but also grows a closer friendship with Armin post-war.
