♡ Passing Notes ♡ (Part 1)

Pairings: Vox x Reader

Summary: Little Libraries have popped up around the Pride Ring and they are a surprisingly good method of communication.

I saw a tik tok about laufey’s little libraries on tour and started rotting :)) This is gonna have multiple parts and I’ll write a one shot of an Alastor version hehe

He knew it was gonna fail.

When the princess of hell first announced her little project of putting up little libraries to let people share a book they enjoy, Vox had cackled all the way to his meet-up with Valentino and Velvette.

“It doesn’t take an idiot to realize that the age of technology has replaced the need for books.” Vox stated, throwing his phone on the table; showing the news report of Charlie Morningstar’s plan, which had been set to start in a few days.

“Those things,” Vox said, as he closed up on the prototype; a simple little box on a stand, with two shelves for the books.  “Are gonna end up filled with shit and covered with god knows what.”

The other Vees had agreed and they had gone about their day, the libraries gone from their minds. Vox had stopped caring about it, ignoring the little thing that had appeared on every street in the Pride Ring. He heard of its success in Cannibal Town, but he knows they can be quite civilized, not without the help of their Overlord.

But everywhere else? His hypothesis had been proved. Graffiti and posters covered all of them and on the inside? Plastic bags, missing arms, and whatever rubbish had been inside. Almost like a middle finger to the princess’ idea

It wasn't until weeks later, when he had been walking by the little library near the Vees’ tower that he felt a bit of curiosity hit him. It had looked all messed up, but not like the state of others wherein the doors had been off their hinges. No, this had been managed by someone.

Waltzing over to the library, he had looked into it to see one book, surrounded by a mess of trash and empty cans. Taking it out, he saw how the cover had been a little tattered and worn; well-loved some might say.

Opening it up, he saw a note fall out. An eyebrow rose, as Vox went to grab it from the ground. Opening it up, he scanned the letter.

If you’re seeing this now, it means you came across this little library! The book in your hand is one of my favorites; I was lucky enough to find it here in Hell since I know how hard it is to find written literature these days.

The other books I left behind never got taken, so I’m trying this one out and hoping for the best!

The others like to make fun of me for it, but having a book to read helps with slowing down and catching my breath here. Anyway! I do hope you enjoy it, I have some annotations throughout the book, I hope that doesn’t bother you too much

I do wish you leave a book of your own, I love reading other stories!

Vox hummed, tucking the note back into the book and holding it lightly. He wasn’t too big of a reader, but the note got him curious.

Resuming his walk to the tower, he tucks the mystery person into the back of his mind, now focusing on his plans for the afternoon.

Vox lets out a groan, he stretches as he sends out one final message. Finally done with his day’s work, he prepares to go and finally rest for the day. Making his way to his table, he fixes up his contracts and papers. At the corner of his eye, he sees the torn up book he had gotten earlier.

Tapping the stack of papers lightly and placing it at the side, he reaches for the book and dusts off any dirt that he couldn’t see. Looking at the cover, he can instantly tell it had been a book made for children. 

“The Little Prince…” he murmured, flipping through the pages. Even from that quick look, he had seen the annotations they had mentioned in the note. Making up his mind, he grabs the book and sits on his couch. As he gets comfortable, he props up his legs on the coffee table. Vox opens the book and begins his night reading.

Unbeknownst to Vox himself, hours had passed since he began. Vox would find himself smiling at the small annotations on every page; little doodles of the prince and the author at the corner of the sides. Feeling his body ache, he lets out a noise. Craning his head he looks at the analog clock on the wall, reading 2:05 AM.

He places the note on the page he left off on. Softly closing the book and placing it down on the table. Vox smiles lightly. He makes his way to his table and opens up a drawer. Taking out a small book, he frowns.

Turning it around, and flipping the pages, He reads through the first few pages of the book, which had been some Inspirational book he had written... Which had tanked because no one bought the copies, something Vox still feels the sting of embarrassment from.

Vox thinks about whether this book was good enough to even place in the Little Library in return for the well-loved book; He makes a mental note to look for better books.

Placing it on his table, he grabs a piece of paper and begins to write.

If you’re reading this, I hope you’re the one who left the copy of the Little Prince.

In all honesty, It’s… not the usual book I would have read in my time alive, but I would be lying if I said it wasn’t good; I’m already halfway through the story.

I’m leaving a book inside, a type of self-help book. If you don’t want to read it.. Fair enough, I heard it had bad sales when it came out anyway.

Silence fills the air as he signs the note. Scrutinizing the note, he lets out a groan, the paper crumpling slightly under his hands.

“Why the fuck am I putting in so much effort… For a stranger?”

Vox cringes, feeling the need to rip up the paper and just forget about the whole thing. The note comes back to mind.. And the little annotations. Slowly, he takes a deep breath, closes up the note and tucks it into the book. Looking at the time again, he realizes he really should get rest.

Making his way to his bed, he makes another note to place the book in the little library on his way to his next meeting. As he feels himself lulling to sleep, Vox feels a strange sense of delight for the next day.

God, who would have known that this little library would make him feel so much?

I don't personally like Malbonte but I'm willing to try out either his or Astaroth's route for HS 2
