Mirawarri is a brand new photo editor, digital image-maker, and selfie app from Warnayaka Aboriginal Art Centre and media artists Gretta Louw and Owen Mundy. The app lets you decorate your photos with stunning, original artwork from the Warlpiri indigenous artists from Lajamanu - 900 km south of Darwin at the edge of the Tanami Desert in central Australia. You can interact live with the fun photo frames, add unique digital stickers to your favourite photos, use the beautiful hand-painted designs to create your own abstract images, and even make illustrations or narrative images with the app.
Download Mirawarri and share your images under the hashtag #Mirawarri on social media to possibly have your photo included in upcoming museum exhibitions of the project. Help us spread the word about this absolutely unique, beautiful app from a remote indigenous community in Australia, and help keep our digital culture diverse, vital, and inspiring!
The #Mirawarri app is now available for download from the App Store - https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/mirawarri/id1240220547 - (iPhones) and coming soon to Android.

‘Future Present Desert’, a recent collaboration with the Warnayaka Art Centre - a Warlpiri, Aboriginal owned and operated cultural corporation in the remote indigenous community of Lajamanu. The video is currently on show as an installation with wall paintings by Isaiah Jungarrayi Lewis and myself at LABoral museum for contemporary art and industrial design in Gijón, Spain, in the exhibition ‘Monster of the Machine’, curated by Marc Garrett.
Future Present Desert was produced with the support of LABoral Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial and includes digital effects by Josua Rappl.

My exhibition, Networking the Unseen, at Furtherfield has now closed. Here’s a press round-up from the show’s run in London: http://www.metamute.org/community/your-posts/another-future-aboriginal-digital-art http://hyperallergic.com/316272/digital-colonialism-and-the-marginalization-of-australias-indigenous-peoples/ http://ruthcatlow.net/?p=509 http://www.aqnb.com/2016/08/17/networking-the-unseen-furtherfield-gallery-reviewed/ And everyone should read Warlpiri scholar Steve Jampijinpa Patrick’s piece that accompanies the YAMA installation: http://www.furtherfield.org/features/articles/home-within-yama-and-ngurra-kurlu
I am currently working on an expanded version of this exhibition project, which will be shown at Villa Merkel [http://www.villa-merkel.de/] late next year as part of the Bahnwärte Stipendium for artist/curators. It will include the current schedule of artists, including new commissioned works for the exhibition, and many new artists including Katie West [https://katiewularni.com/], Nine Yamamoto-Masson [http://nineyamamotomasson.tumblr.com/], and many more TBA.

Gorgeous photos from our exhibition, Networking the Unseen, at Furtherfield Gallery in Finsbury Park, London. This is the first exhibition of a long term curatorial and collaborative project that I initiated with Warnayaka Art Centre back in 2011. The hard work was worth it.

New #GIFPortrait online - this one was challenging; Kate Anthony, from Online Therapy Institute (http://onlinetherapyinstitute.com/) wanted a portrait to commemorate a sailing trip she was planning with her husband, but ended up having to cut the trip very short due to illness. Happy to have been able to give Kate something positive and beautiful after that difficult experience.

Pioneering net artist and dear friend, Igor Štromajer (aka http://intima.org/), made this great piece out of iChat data from my decomissioned laptop that I sent him as part of ‘Disbursing the Cloud’.

More spectacular remixes of data sent via ‘Disbursing the Cloud’ - in which I am dismantling an old laptop by dispersing my entire data history piece by piece to participants in the project. Send me email me at thecloud(at)grettalouw.com to receive your own piece of digital detritus. More info: http://tinyurl.com/o37h62e
These works are remixes of a photoshop file called ‘nesting’ that I sent artist Alan Sondheim. Alan also made a beautiful virtual reality video incorporating the data, which can be viewed on his website here: http://www.alansondheim.org/exportskin.mp4
