Can we, as a fandom, stop once and for all referring to C!Phil as an absent father? Like, if you want your angsty headcanon to be that, awesome, but it's not canon.

C!Wilbur never said anything about C! Phil being an absent father or anything of the sort.

C!Phil dropped everything he had the second C!Wilbur stopped sending him letters, because he got worried something had happened and left everything to visit C!Wilbur.

C!Wilbur was thirty at the beginning of the server, and apparently had forty/fifty years at the end of his life. At that age, your father doesn't have to be coddling you or being there 24/7.

Not when C!Wilbur had moved to the DSMP, 8a place C!Phil didn't have access to, by the way), started a business and had a family of his own. C!Wilbur was an adult man with his own life, his own problems and his own family.

And if he had asked for help, we know now that C!Phil would have done anything to get there and help! He literally hacked into the DSMP when he stopped receiving letters from his son!

But when he gets there, the situation has escalated a lot and C!Wilbur was going to die to the explosions caused by his own TNT.

C!Phil protected him with his wings, loosing them, to save C!Wil. He sacrificed them for him.

Now, C!Phil is no psychologist, and although he tried to talk C!Wilbur out of it, his son didn't listen. His son even goes as far as implying people want him to do it, meaning if C! Phil didn't do it, the others would kill him instead.

I have to remind the fandom once again that C! Phil doesn't know shit about how the politics in the DSMP works and he doesn't know if C!Wilbur is lying or not.

He only knows that his son has been suffering without him knowing, that apparently he will die either way, and that his son is asking for his dad to grant him his last wish. He doesn't have time to react either, time to think, everything is happening too fast.

C!Phil isn't a psychologist, and he simply couldn't make a good decision.

“But Aelyn, he could simply have walked away!”

No, because again, in a high stress situation, when C!Phil was hurt, lost and confused, and the adrenaline is high, you make rushed decisions. Not everyone is the same. Not everyone can stop and think. This happens in real life.

Do you really think C!Phil would want to kill his own son? When we know that he dropped everything to help him? When he has been mourning since then? When he has been trying to resurrect him and bring him back, mend his mistake?

Still to this day, none in the dsmp has call out C! Phil for doing what he did, because people in the server are okay with the results. C!Phil hasn't been proven that what C!Wilbur told him that day is a lie, because as far as he knows “He killed the dragon, he is a hero”.

But C!Phil doesn't feel like a hero.

C!Phil didn't want to kill his own son.

He is hurting and mourning, and trying to make sense of everything, he is trying to figure out if what he did was good or bad, because so far none in this God danm server has taken the time to sit down and have a proper conversation with the man!

He only knows that the whole creating a nation and a government drove his son to a point where his only escape was death, and that none has proved him wrong so far! None has told him what happened!

But bad communication (my abhorred) aside.

Ghostbur.

Now, I don't know if people are caught up with C! Phil's lore or not, but I'm going to assume people are not or else they wouldn't assume he is a bad dad.

At the beginning, C!Phil tries to spend time with Ghostbur. They hang out, but it's very clear that Ghostbur isn't C!Wilbur. (Confirmed by Wilbur Soot himself both IC and OOC. And we can clearly see it while they roleplay.)

C!Phil is still a good father to him, tries to at least, yet Ghostbur keeps reminding him of his trauma, his pain, his death. And I like Ghostbur, I do, but the dude is a creepy ghost, with the open wound of the sword C!Phil had to drive through his chest, that walks around and can't remember anything bad that happened around him.

C!Phil has talked about how Ghostbur makes him feel, about how he is not his Wilbur and that Ghostbur kept reminding him of how he was "the hero" for what he did. Again, C!Phil doesn't feel like a hero. He had to murder his own son.

To live with someone who is constantly a reminder of your biggest regret and who even tells you "you should be happy/proud of what you did", knowing you haven't gotten over your trauma, it's fucking hurtful.

C!Phil is hurting.

And the fandom keeps treating him like he is some cold, uncaring father that doesn't give a fuck about anything or anyone. This is nothing but bullshit, and you should all know it.

Friend.

C!Phil didn't know Friend was in the house, C!Phil wouldn't have risked going back to the house where the sheep was either, because he had escaped house arrest and they were at war.

Also, Friend was in the vault, so the one that died on Doomsday might not have been even the real one. Again, it's just a sheep. That keeps dying. And getting revived. Or some weird shit that I'm really scared of, like, what is going on with that sheep!?

But I digress.

Ghostbur also killed Friend the first time. I didn't see all of you going ballistic over him for killing Friend.

To me, it feels like when C!Phil said Friend was inmortal, as a fellow inmortal, he knew what he was talking about. People said he was lying. Then how come the sheep can appear and disappear, and get revived so many times?

And even if it was a lie, who cares?

Again, Ghostbur isn't C!Phil's son.

If anything, C!Phil is a bad friend for... Eh... Let me see... Not risking his one canon life for going after a sheep that keeps dying and getting revived during war times... Ah yeah. Such a bad person.

I too would get mad if my father/friend didn't risk his life to rescue my cat Mr Buttons in the middle of a war. Yes. Very logical and mature of me.

Fundy.

Their relationship went like this:

C!Phil tries to be a good grandfather to C!Fundy

C! Fundy tries to scam C!Phil several times

C!Phil gives C!Fundy a place to live and goes fishing with him, they spend time together.

C!Fundy writes a hit list, featuring both C!Wilbur and C!Technoblade. C! Fundy helps the Butcher Army break in his grandfather's house, steals from him, let's C!Quackity hit him and taunts C!Phil when they arrest him in his own house, where he has perfect view of the Execution of his best friend.

C! Fundy never apologises, only makes excuses for himself. C!Phil still says he will forgive him if he tries to be better and redeems himself.

And, finally, Tommy and Tubbo.

They aren't his sons. Not even adopted. CC Phil has said it ten times now. The SBI FD is dead on the DSMP, because it doesn't make sense.

Please don't force your headcanons on my streamer.

Yeah, to which Phil immediately replied people kept calling him dad, and he was too unbothered to argue it.

That doesn't mean he sees them as his sons or anything like that. Especially someone he has clearly SHOWED to be mad at because of the whole Butcher Army and the not listening to him when he advised Tubbo not to steal from his citizens.

I know this post is messy, but please for the love of God, stop saying C!Phil is a bad father. There isn't any canon proof of it, and you guys are mixing canon and fanon.

CC!Phil hasn't worked on his character for you guys to disregard his words and his story because some of you don't watch his streams and yet write long posts about his character.

Welcome to my post on Techno, Tommy, Ranboo & Xenia, a reading of relationship parellels through the lense of ancient greek culture and mythology, because I’m a classics major avoiding my essay right now!

We’re shown throughout the canon of the Dream SMP that Techno sees things through the lense of Greek mythology. This is shown in how he compares Tommy to Theseus; Quackity to Icarus. Everything is a myth & heroes don’t get happy endings.

We can also see this in how he treats his guests! Xenia is, in Greek Mythology, the laws of hospitality and guest friendship. The domain is ruled over by Zeus, guardian of strangers. Xenia’s laws determine how to be a good host & a good guest. To be a good host/guest, you have to follow certain rules.

For the host, this usually means providing gifts, food, favours & sanctuary — & baths, but we’re ignoring this because Minecraft. For guests this means reciprocation. Do not be a threat or a burden, tell stories of the outside world & reciprocate if you are called upon by your host.

But Banshee, you may be wondering, how does this relate to Techno, Ranboo and Tommy?

Well, I’d argue that in the Dream SMP, Techno follows the laws of Xenia pretty consistently throughout his time on the server. He offers the new people who join the Pogtopia rebellion food (potatoes), gifts (armour, weaponry), favours (help taking down Manburg) & sanctuary (Pogtopia itself). He does the same to Tommy when Tommy comes to his house, offering food (steak, golden carrots), gifts (turtle helmet, armour, weaponry), favours (I will help you get your discs back) & sanctuary (his house). This time, however, he wants reciprocation: aid me in blowing up L'manburg.

(Notably, Techno doesn't have to follow the rules of Xenia with Tommy — Tommy isn’t a stranger, and has previously betrayed him.)

Tommy, to contrast, does not reciprocate with the laws of Xenia. He is a threat to Techno’s villagers (leaving doors open & letting zombies in) & is a threat to Techno himself (repeatedly nearly revealing himself to Dream + others). He repeatedly steals from Techno, damages his house and refuses to aid Techno. He claims Techno’s house as his own.

This violation of Xenia means that under its laws, Techno could kill Tommy and he would not be considered morally wrong for it. In fact, under the laws of Xenia, Techno should have killed Tommy. But he doesn’t, and Tommy is later struck by lighting, which is very entertaining because Xenia is governed by Zeus. (Also, because Dream said he summoned the lightning, that makes Dream Zeus, which is also very funny.)

Tommy’s violations of Xenia are later directly contrasted by Ranboo. Ranboo doesn’t just reciprocate Techno following the laws of Xenia as a guest — he flips the script, offers Techno food (steak, cookies), gifts (the axe) & favours (exploring woodland mansions together). Techno responds with tales of his past & defends Ranboo on their trips. Ranboo goes above and beyond, not because of any knowledge of Xenia, but because he’s anxious and goes above and beyond with everything.

Ranboo takes the position of host in his interactions with Techno, and Techno reciprocates as a guest.

In other words: Techno and Ranboo have a really sweet friendship & Ranboo cannot be replacing Tommy because the relationship is very different.

TL;DR: Ranboo and Techno follow Xenia and Tommy doesn’t, which is why he got struck by lighting lmao Also, Techno knows about Xenia lol.

Imagine the crows nudging at Phil to fly with them.

And Phil shaking his head sadly or straight up ignoring the ones who made the request.

No matter how many trinkets they brought him, Phil would not fly with them.

Phil could not fly with them.

They gently pecked at at his tattered wings, many cawing in anguish when they realized what the empty skeleton that once held plumes of rich black feathers meant.

They huddled around Phil, enveloping him, trying the latch on to him and lift him up but they just couldn't.

Because no matter how large the murder of crows were, Phil wasn't to fly again.

A physical and mental price he instilled on himself, karma for driving the sword through his son.

And the crows knew he didn't deserve it. They tried to tell him. They tried to remind him of the feeling of flight. They pecked at him.

Wilbur is gone Dadza. But you aren't.

Phil just shook his head and turned away, a gesture screaming for him to be left alone. His shoulders hunched as he sorted through his chests.

It made him look small.

They couldn't convince him.

And then the possibility of being able to revive Wilbur came into play.

And they all felt it.

The slightest bit of hope.

They crowded around him once more, almost covering him fully. They grabbed onto him and flapped their wings.

Phil laughed, his feet hovering barely a few centimetres off the ground.

But he was off the ground.

Phil couldn't even be mad at them when they dropped him in their excitement. They showered him with small treasures, objects that would look useless to anybody else, but objects that Phil treasured just as much as the emeralds and blue lying in his enderchest.
