My mom remembered she had bought this beautifully illustrated book of the Divine Comedy when she was younger and she gifted it to me 🥺🥺🥺 and I just can't believe how astonishly beautiful these are
Reason: I believe there would be some songs she’d actually relate to, and those are:
I. Show & Tell
II. NYMPHOLOGY
III. EVIL
ᯓᡣ𐭩 I. Show & Tell
“You beg and cry for more, and yet I'm on the floor,
There are strangers takin' pictures of me when I ask, "No more,"
It's really hard for me to say just how I feel,
I'm scared that I'll get thrown away like a banana peel.”
I feel like since she’s considered this perfect woman in Dante’s eyes she feels obligated to do shit perfectly when she’s human. She’s also scared of messing shit up, thus “I’m scared that I’ll get thrown away like a banana peel.”
“Why is it so hard to see? (why?)
If I cut myself, I would bleed (kill me)
I'm just like you, you're like me
Imperfect and human, are we?”
I believe no one can run away from sin, despite being in Paradise. Yeah, I know, there’s Purgatory where you can cleanse yourself from your sins, but, before being a Theological symbol, she’s human, thus making her imperfect.
“Show and tell
I'm on display for all you fuckers to see
Show and tell
Harsh words if you don't get a pic with me
Buy and sell (buy and sell me, baby)
Like I'm a product to society
Art don't sell
Unless you fucked every authority”
I might get cooked for this one, but do we really think she’d appreciate the fact she got immortalized as “Dante’s muse” (will be developing this part later)? Anyways, I don’t really have an explanation for this it just makes sense?
ᯓᡣ𐭩 II. NYMPHOLOGY
“Call me your nymph
Praise me for martyr, praise me for sin
Call me your muse
A sprite or an elf you cry to, then use”
This is because, well, she’s Dante’s muse, of course. We know Dante only sees the good in her, though,
“It's nymphology, not psychology
Be the manic pixie dream girl that you fuckin' ought to be
Damaged oddity, bought by Sotheby's
Auctioned to a selfish man who thinks that he's the prophecy”
I’m dissing the shit out of Dante here, anyways, Beatrice would NOT like to be known as his muse, as I said before. She’d rather (in my opinion) be something else, something more? Something more free, like a silly pixie.
“In traditional regional lore, pixies are generally benign, mischievous, short of stature, and childlike: they are fond of dancing and wrestling outdoors, of which they perform through the night.”
ᯓᡣ𐭩 III. EVIL
The whole song just screams “let me be free from this shit” ^_^
Okay, jokes (or not) aside, and this is gonna be the summary of what I want to say, she is still human, depicted as the perfect being to ever exist because that’s what love does. And I believe that, if she actually did something (like saying just how she feels), but it wasn’t what was wanted or not, she’d be the “evil” one, because “muses inspire artists due to their disposition, charisma, wisdom, sophistication, eroticism, intimate friendship or other traits.”
Ok I think that’s all, I might post more yapping here from now on ^_^
