the ygtb fandom at this point is just arguments between the older and younger fans who are each supporting those trainees closest in age to them ngl ....

okay I understand how literally all of these boys deserve to debut, but like yg, come on. I love jaehyuk and junghwan and jeongwoo, but like why are you not debuting trainees who have literally been working at this for years whereas these guys are still fresh and new. I’m not saying they don’t have the potential or talent, but like why did you invest so much time and money into guys byounggon, hyunsuk. and seunghun only to throw them away. how can you even forecast the potential of these younger trainees when they’ve been training for so little time? at this point, I just don’t understand. what is your objective here yang hyunsuk?

a little bit of college!minho bc i’m dreading heading back to university hahah. it’s a bit short and not anything too crazy, but let’s get this writing show on the road
sleepy boy
pairing: reader x lee know/minho
word count: 1.6k
warnings: none, except if you’re triggered by the thought of being back in a lecture hall like meeee!
Tumblr media
[10:15 a.m] Organic chemistry: by far your least favorite of your major requirements. Forced to dash across campus to get to lecture from a 9 a.m. seminar, you are always ten minutes late. It seems that regardless of how quickly your feet try to take you, the professor is already knee-deep into an explanation of something - what was it called...aromaticity? - by the time you have arrived. Of course, your lateness also leaves you with limited seating choices, mostly in the back.
Slipping into your usual chair in the corner closest to the hall’s back door and pausing for a second to catch your breath, something, or rather someone, catches your eye. There’s a person in the chair next to you, or rather, a person and their backpack. His fluffy brown hair is sticking up a bit from the strange angle he’s splayed himself over the backpack on his desk. You watch as his back rises and falls rhythmically. He’s asleep.
A small giggle escapes your lips; the row is usually empty except for you. Attempting to focus on the chemistry lecture before you and not the boy next to you, the grin doesn’t leave your face as you place your notebook on the desk and begin taking notes.
Each morning passes as it usually does: you arrive late, the boy next to you is sleepy and snoozes throughout lecture. The professor is his alarm clock. With the words, “Alright, class. I’ll see you next time,” Sleepy Boy lifts his head, runs his fingers through his bangs, and blinks a few times before slinging his pillow-backpack over his shoulder and nodding a goodbye-good morning to you. His exit is brisk.
And, despite Sleepy Boy’s inability to take notes throughout lecture, he’s able to keep himself awake for your examinations. What’s even more confusing, and almost annoying, is that you’ve managed to notice that he receives some of the highest marks in the class. As his tests lack any red pen marks, there is, of course, no need for him to be awake while your class goes over the examination’s particularly challenging questions. You wonder how it’s even possible. Does this boy ever bring a notebook? His backpack seems almost empty most days; it probably provides no support while he’s asleep. And nowadays, you can’t help but sigh when your eyes linger over to his sleeping face. Whether it’s a sigh of disgust or admiration, you’re not sure.
Pulling yourself back to the practice problems that you’re supposed to be doing, you begin scribbling an answer down. Uncharacteristically, the professor and TA’s begins walking up the aisle, talking to different people about their thoughts on how to approach the question. Though you know the professor cannot see Sleepy Boy at this angle, it’s inevitable that he’ll get in trouble. Letting out a small huff, you kick his leg until Sleepy Boy lifts his head, hair sticking out in strange angles once again and eyes glazed over with sleep as usual. He rubs the back of his neck as he turns toward you, a hint of confusion on his already unaware face.
“We’re doing practice problems and the prof is coming. Just act like you weren’t asleep the whole time,” you tell him quickly. He nods hurriedly and pushes his backpack off his desk. He stares at the blank dest for a second before turning back to you.
“I, uh, don’t have any paper,” he sheepishly admits. Maybe its his sweet smile or the fact that you just truly pity the fact that this guy seems to not get any sleep at night; whatever it is, you discreetly pass an extra notebook and pen to him with just enough time for him to jot down some sort of answer before the professor makes his way to you two. And, in usual Sleepy Boy style, he provides your teacher with a precise and correct answer in seconds. You can only shake your head in disbelief as you stare down at your own notes.
On que - “Alright, class. I’ll see you next time.” - Sleepy Boy hops up from his seat a bit more energetically than usual, probably because he decided to stay awake throughout the rest of lecture after your timely save.
“You should get some coffee or something, dude. You can’t always sleep in class,” you remark as you stand up.
He shrugs it off with a quick, “Yeah, yeah, I will, I will. Thanks,” before giving you his usual nod and slipping out of the row.
But when you plop down into your seat next to Sleepy Boy, still trying to catch your breath, you’re surprised to see him wide awake. You watch as he pulls his backpack from the floor and into his lap. He zips it open to reveal a massive amount of energy drinks and cans of coffee. “Look what I got!” He exclaims as he rifles through the sea of cans to find a particular can of coffee.
Your confusion towards this kid never ends.
He places the coffee on your desk as he resolutely remarks, “Now we’re even. Thanks again for yesterday.” He ruffles your hair lightly as he does so.
"You’re not going to drink that all yourself, right? I'm pretty sure that’s not the healthiest thing you could do,” you question.
He brushes you off with a lively giggle, “Yeah, of course. I just wanted to, like, do what you told me. I mean, I’ll try and stay awake, so I don’t bother you anymore. Anyway, I’m pretty sure some of my friends like these. Maybe Changbin...” he trails off as he begins mumbling to himself about who to share his drinks with.
As you ready yourself for the already-begun lecture, you glance back over at Sleepy Boy as you open the coffee he gifted to you. Only to realize that his murmurs and pondering have lulled him to sleep yet again. You decide to leave him be.
Lecture ends with the professor’s usual valedictions and your seatmate awakes.
“Ah, sorry I fell asleep again,” he starts hurriedly, “I just have practice late at night for my dance team and I usually have to do work after that, so I don’t really sleep until-”
“It’s fine. Do you need my notes to copy?” Your interruption startles him. He clears this throat as the color rises in his cheeks.
“Yeah, that would be great,” he nods, taking the sheets you had just ripped out of your own notebook. He promises to give them back to you the next day.
But, when you’re even later to lecture the next day and you take your usual moment to catch your breath, you can’t help but be the one to drift asleep. Now note-copying Sleepy Boy is the one to be surprised.
It isn’t until you feel someone nudge your shoulder that you realize that the professor has called on you. You glance to your seatmate, noticing he’s pointing to something he’s written on his own paper. He nods quickly at you before your gaze returns to your professor.
“Uh um, it’s a secondary alcohol, so it can only be oxidized to a ketone.” You repeat what was written on the paper. When did you learn this, again? The professor nods curtly and turns back to the board to continue lecture.
“When did you start taking notes?” You whisper to your seatmate.
“When you started sleeping in class.” You elbow him when you notice a sly smirk on his face.
Class continues as you nod off a few times. You should’ve started your history paper earlier in the week so you didn’t cram it all in the night before.
Sleepy Boy rips out the notes he had just been taking and shoves them into your hands. “You’ll be needing these, I think.”
Your eyes scan over the paper. His handwriting is surprisingly crisp, unlike the rest of his disorganized possessions. It makes sense. He’s an apparent genius who never pays attention, yet somehow does better than most everyone else in the class. Full of surprises. “Lee Minho,” you read aloud from the top corner of the paper. Your eyes meet his. “Glad I finally know.”
“You know, I would know your name too, if you wrote it at the top of your notes,” he jokes as he also hands you your notes from the day before. “That’s dangerous, you know, not writing your name on stuff. What if I lost them when I was copying them? They’d never get returned to you and then I’d just feel so guilty that you never got your notes back.”
“But not guilty for mooching off of my notes when you should be awake in the first place.”
“Ah, the pot calling the kettle black,” he retorts as he motions to the papers labeled with his own name in your hands. He raises an eyebrow at you before you both burst out laughing at your ridiculous banter.
“It’s Y/N,” you respond after you’ve regained composure. “But, I should probably head to the library to copy these notes, now.”
“Well, Y/N, I’m thinking I should walk with you, just to make sure you don’t fall over from exhaustion or something.”
You’re rolling your eyes as the two of you walk out of the lecture hall, in the middle of some conversation about how his sleeping seemingly doesn’t affect his marks in class. Minho is sarcastic, captivating, and lively, unlike how you’ve experienced him in the past. You’re so wrapped up in the conversation that you seem to reach campus’s far away library in no time. And as you both stand awkwardly at the bottom of the building’s robust steps, a strange thought pops into your head. Most likely because you’ve found you enjoy Sleepy Boy a bit too much when he’s awake.
“Minho, would you like to study with me?”
“Only if you can keep me awake.”
And, you are successful at keeping him awake with endless conversation. Just not too successful at getting any studying done.
