I've been thinking about Schala a bit.
(Me? What a surprise...)
But I think a really important part of her character is how, during her time in the game, she ends up instrumentalized by almost *everyone* around her. It's incredibly tragic. Her mother, of course, expecting her to not only commune with the Mammon Machine for her own ascendancy to power with the Ocean Palace, but also expecting her to practically raise Janus herself, providing him with one of his two sources of emotional comfort, given Zeal's deteriorating mental state and obsession. But her own brother, grown, of course, can't help but take that same role, too. It's deeply tragic for both of them, but I feel, generally speaking, the fandom puts more emphasis on Magus, primarily due to his more prominent role in the story, but, of course, to the lesser extent that he's a male character, and many people are more willing to accept male characters as being three dimensional than female ones. Magus ends up using Schala, too, in the end, because his need for revenge overrides his need to reunite with his sister. He stays back, he doesn't reveal himself to her, so he ends up being this dark force that ends up rapidly accelerating the doom that she brought about last time around. And it's really quite sad, this woman, who has her very own emotional breakdown sprite, has to watch as everyone she has called family has in turn used her, abused her, allowed her to feel tormented just to get what they want. And Magus doesn't feel anything about it, at least, isn't willing to admit he does, until Lavos is defeated. It's only then that the hollowness of revenge, the regret at losing the person who loved him the most, does he realize his mistake, and we all know about that tragic story, after all. And Schala has to exist, not quite dead, not quite alive, consumed and used by Lavos, too, to escape its fate of death, and Schala herself, being roughly 19, being someone who was expected to be mature... She was due to her very own mental health breakdown, after all. And what better way than to become an eldritch horror, stronger than that which sought to consume her.

One of my favorite things about Chrono Trigger was how sexy they made Ayla without being creepy about it. Yes, this is a cavewoman in a fur bikini. But she's clearly an adult woman. There are no gross jokes at her expense or random moments of fan service. Her storyline is solidly about her being a brave leader who cares deeply for her people. Everyone respects her. She beats the shit out of dinosaurs. And yeah, she's really hot.

Luca and Marle just had an extremely awkward and emotional conversation with Crono's mom while trying to not give away that her son is dead and they're time-heisting with this oddly realistic (and heavy) Crono-doll to try and bring him back to life-
and Magus is considerably less invested than the others but he does like Crono's cat

some quick sketches... toriyama had such playful character designs and his work has been a big influence for me, especially his work on chrono trigger.

If I could pick only two things that started my artistic journey, it would be Sailor Moon and Chrono Trigger. The latter's characters were, of course, designed by Akira Toriyama, and my first sketchbooks were jam packed full of drawings of the crew. I just wanted to make a little Chrono as a tribute.
In the words of Robo:
Caution! Oil has washed over my sight sensors. Sight diminished…
