I couldn't believe it when I first heard the news... Sadly, Akira Toriyama, one of if not THE most legendary creator in the entirety of the anime industry, being a character designer for games like Dragon Quest, Blue Dragon and Chrono Trigger, but also creating manga like Dr. Slump, and of course, Dragon Ball... has passed away on March 1st. Words can't describe how influential and timeless his works are, and we in the anime community will forever be thankful of him. The anime and manga industry wouldn't be what it is today without Akira Toriyama. Rest in piece, Toriyama, as we are extremely grateful to you, and we'll never forget your timeless legacy.

So I know the established rivalry in Chrono Trigger is between Frog and Magus, but like, you know what's a funnier dynamic ? Crono and Magus. Imagine this 30 year old demon wizard fighting an absolute teenager for the pettiest reasons.

The two hit it off immediately in the worst possible way. At first it starts off as nasty looks and insults (mostly from Magus). One day, though, Magus lets a dire rat charge right at Crono. If the kid figures he's so good, he should be able to deal with the rat himself. And Crono does! By windslashing the rat right into Magus. From there it escalates to a fight between the two and Ayla (the party leader then) ends it by scruffing Crono and taking Magus' scythe.

The funniest part is that almost all of it is instigated by Crono. Sure, Magus can explain why he generally dislikes Crono, but Crono? Boy has a fucking list of grievances. Such as :

Starting the Human-Fiend war

Leading most of fiendkind in a ruse that may have ended all of them, or at least isolated them to such a degree they all have no interaction with the outside world (See: Medina Village after Ozzie)

Trying to kill Frog

Trying to kill most of his friends, actually

Summoning Lavos despite knowing it may destroy civilization (AGAIN)

Ect.

Once, Magus tried to pull the "You should be grateful I brought you back from the dead" card while they were walking. Crono spun to face the wizard behind him, one hand on the hilt of his Swallow.

"I would rather die a hundred times over than be in your debt once." He spat, voice low and creaky.

And that was the only time Crono has ever spoken to anyone.
