if you are the type of person to tell a girl to stop driving around with an adult sized plastic skeleton strapped into the backseat of her car do not imagine even for one second that you could ever score a girl who would drive around with an adult sized plastic skeleton in the backseat of her car

I grew up in a religious culture where I was taught that sex is an innate need for males, equivalent to water and food.
I was taught that males are driven by sex and that women can't understand this drive because we're not as sexually inclined.
I was taught that males should be forgiven for their actions when driven by their sexual "needs."
I was taught, as a teenager, that I needed to give a male a chance--even when I wasn't interested in him--because he was nice and I might develop feelings for him. Because he'd shown interest in me and therefore deserved an opportunity to prove himself. Because a "good" male deserves a chance, regardless of your personal feelings for him.
I've had many years to deconstruct these mindsets but, man, is it fucking triggering to see a certain subgroup of "fans" for a book series dedicated to empowering women 1) villainize and belittle a female character for not wanting to give her time, affection, and energy to a male she's not interested in, and then 2) argue that because the male character hasn't forced himself on said female character that he deserves the female character's praise, admiration, and respect.
So, just a reminder to any women who grew up like me and might need the reminder:
You do not owe a male anything. You do not owe him your time or your energy or your affection. He could be a nice guy, he could be a good man, and still you don't have to give him anything. You deserve to pursue who you want to, and the choices you make for your personal life deserve to be acknowledged and respected.
