Anne Roos sent a photo for St Patrick's Day: "Here ya go: Cheers and Happy Birthday,"
Karl Horak replied to the question of how they are celebrating Celtic culture through music: "Corned beef, veggies, Irish cheese, homemade spotted dog, washed down with Guinness, of course."
Scot sent a photo: "Shades of Green on their 6th and final performance of the St. Patrick’s Day weekend. This was at Jerzee’s in Glenside to a packed house. Our absolute favorite time of year. My favorite moment was right after we finished….a gent from Ireland came up to me, thanked me/us for bringing such joy all around and working so hard….and he wanted to give a little back. He then took my hand and sang a Gaelic song to me. It was moving. Nothing like the Irish spirit to lift you up.  Thanks for keeping the spirit alive brother."

Here is a pic of myself (accordion), my sister Lilly Cart (bodrhan), and my 3rd cousin Heather MacIsaac performing a concert of Irish songs and tunes at the Antigonish Heritage Museum, the former train station in my hometown. The acoustics are great in this space and there was a full crowd.  Volunteers from the Heritage Association provided tea, juice, and snacks for the attendees. We did a number of sing - alongs and there were lots of moments when the crowd joined us on beautiful choruses. A great time! "

ABOUT THE NEW ADS IN THE PUBLIC FEED
If you’ve been listening to the show over the last couple of weeks, you will have noticed something new to the show. Ads placed at the beginning and ending of each episode. The show has been published regularly for almost 19 years with very few ads, outside of those for my Celtic Invasion Vacations and Patreon.
I’ll be honest. I’m not a huge fan of advertising…or corporations in general. And I’m still deciding whether I’m gonna continue having ads in the show.
The fact is that this podcast costs a decent amount to produce as I’ll tell you about later. We’ve built something incredible here. We have a large number of Patrons of the Podcast who support this show each and every week. It’s mind - blowing the amount of support this show gets.
But it doesn’t cover all of my expenses. And there’s so much more I’d like to do to reach more Celtic music fans, which requires money. This would be one way to help us grow our podcast.
So if you don’t like those ads, please become a Patron of the Podcast, because they are not included in any of the Patreon shows.
THANK YOU PATRONS OF THE PODCAST!
You are amazing. It is because of your generosity that you get to hear so much great Celtic music each and every week.
Your kindness pays for our engineer, graphic designer, Celtic Music Magazine editor, promotion of the podcast, and allows me to buy the music I play here. It also pays for my time creating the show each and every week.
As a patron, you get music - only episodes before regular listeners, vote in the Celtic Top 20, stand - alone stories, and you get a private feed to listen to the show. You get it all, without those ads at the beginning and end of the regular episodes. All that for as little as $1 per episode.
A special thanks to our Celtic Legends: Bill Mandeville, Marti Meyers, Brenda, Karen DM Harris, Emma Bartholomew, Dan mcDade, Carol Baril, Miranda Nelson, Nancie Barnett, Kevin Long, Gary R Hook, Lynda MacNeil, Kelly Garrod, Annie Lorkowski, Shawn Cali

Sherron Sloan emailed a photo from St Augustine Celtic Festival: "Marc, you've  got to check out the St. Augustine Celtic festival sometime. That's where I first heard the Gothard sisters! It is such a fun weekend."
Ryan Weyls emailed some photos: "Hi Marc, I've attached photos from a pair of shows I went to this weekend:
Dàimh at the Town Crier in Beacon, NY and Derek Warfield and the Young Wolfe Tones at the Rambling House in the Bronx. The lighting at Rambling House was a bit harsh and didn't agree with my phone, so I've only included two photos. Both bands sounded excellent. I might be checking out the other version of the Wolfe Tones (the one led by Derek's brother) later this week and will send photos if I make it. Thanks for your wonderful podcast.
Tim Hughes emailed photos from the Madison WI Shamrock Shuffle: "Had to listen to I&CMP during the run! Before and after pictures."

Dancing With Hobbits (Album)
It’s twilight in the Shire. Fireflies wink in the gloaming; the air is soft and sweet. Halflings step out of their small doorways, walking towards a field of flowers, chatting with neighbors until…the strains of a fiddle start up, low at first, then rising into a sprightly tune, just made for dancing. Welcome to Dancing With Hobbits, the newest collaboration between renowned Celtic musician Marc…

17:20 - THE STORY OF REDEMPTION
Recorded for The War Doctor | Doctor Who #2.3
Inspired by “The Day of the Doctor” from Doctor Who
Download the “Redemption” MP3
Lyrics and music Marc Gunn. Marc Gunn: autoharp, vocals; Rich Brotherton: bass, guitar, percussion. Mixed by Rich Brotherton
Background
This is a story about finding redemption. In the 50th anniversary Doctor Who episode "The Day of the Doctor", the 10th (Matt Smith) and 11th Doctor (David Tennant) meet The War Doctor. They are horrified and filled with dread to once again see themselves as the man who committed horrible atrocities wiping out the Time Lords and the Daleks with a doomsday weapon.
But after centuries dealing with that pain. They finally come to grips with it. They accept the decision they made even though it caused the death of billions of people. But even better, they remember Who they are. The Doctor. Never cruel or cowardly. Never give up or give in. Doctors give hope. They are finally able to save the people they thought they lost.
Redemption Lyrics
I was so young. I made a mistake That I have never shared. Much to regret. I tried to forget. I ran. That just laid it bare.
To speak the words out loud made me Shudder for the harm I done Now I help the innocent Still I feel the need to run.
* Because I burn. I  burn. It won't cover the pain But it's time I learn. Time I learn. Redemption can come again (x3)
Are great men truly forged in fire? While others light the flame? That's what I tell myself so that I can avoid the blame.
Deep down inside there's a scared little child Smashing statues, filled with fright. Under cover, changing faces To hide away in plain sight
But still I burn. I  burn. It won't cover the pain But it's time I learn. It's time I learn. Redemption can come again (x3)
And still my monsters come from my past They shatter my future bones. Scary to face them, but time will heal Don't have to do it alone
Promise to keep, tho I may weep For the pain I kept deep down Face my fears for 1200 years Hope will turn my life around
No longer burn. No longer  burn. It may not cover the pain But it's time I learn. It's time I learn. Redemption can come again (x3)

I heard a version by Ed Kilbourne. It was in 4/4 time and sounded nothing like our version. Our is in 3/4 time. That was the only way I could make it sound like a song that belonged at a Renaissance Festival.
Stage performance choreography
Frog Kissin' Lyrics
words and music by Buddy Kalb, arrangement Marc Gunn
Do you remember in the fairy tale, how the wicked witches spell Turned the handsome prince to a toad? By the power of a potion, she handed him the notion He was lower than the dirt in the road. And though she left him green and warted, her evil plans were thwarted Their chanced to happen by a young miss Who in spite of his complexion, offered him affection And broke the wicked curse with her kiss
So if you've never been frog kissing Then you don't know what you've been missin', There's a wealth of opportunity under each and every log. And if you've never been charm-breakin', Then you've never been handsome prince makin'. You've got to slow down, turn around, bend down, Kiss you a frog!
Once upon a time ago, I was down and feelin' low Like a lonely frog in a pond My life was just a joke, and I was just about to croak Cuz I'd be zapped by life's wicked wand. But in the depths of my depression, there came a true expression Of love from a person so sweet. She gave me warm fuzzy feelings, feelings that were healin' And she knocked me off my little webbed feet.
There's a happy-ever-after-land, deep in the heart of man Where a prince and princess abides. But all we get are glimpses, of the happy prince or princess 'Cauce they're covered with a green warty hide. Though they're full of life's potential, they're lacking one essential To enable them to shine like a star. That's a handsome guy or missus, to smother them with kisses And love them just the way that they are.
That's the secret of frog kissing You can do it too if you'll just listen There's a wealth of opportunity under each and every log. That's the secret of charm-breakin', That's the secret of handsome prince makin'. You've got to slow down, turn around, bend down, Kiss you a… You've got to slow down, turn around, bend down, Kiss you a… You've got to slow down, turn around, bend down, Kiss you a frog!

Ben Doran messaged on Facebook: “When I received the "music only version" of the "The Gaelic Blessing" podcast, I was immediately reminded of one of the most moving arrangements of The Irish Blessing that I have heard  -  - by Bill O'Connor and Larry Theiss on their – "Traditional And Original" recording.
I am getting ready to have a day off tomorrow and will  get to chores and baking for the "Wild Hog in the Woods" usual Friday night concert that we host at a neighborhood center here in Madison. While I am mixing and baking, I'll surely/certainly listen to that "Gaelic Blessing" program in its entirety. Thanks!”
Ryan S. emailed some photos: "Hi Marc. I love the Celtic Women episodes!!
I am currently building trails outside of austin while I listen to the cast.the spring flowers are already out!"
Shel O'Toole emailed a photo: "Hi Marc, As I'm listening today I'm promoting the International Women's Day event I organised for the Ballarat and District Irish Association. The all women trio I play with, Skedaddle is performing on the day.   I'm also looking at ways to promote my newly released poetry book Wildsong. I'll be officially launching it at the IWD lunch.
I'm loving the Celtic Women special. There's so many fabulous Irish women singers and musicians. Noirin Ni Rian, the sean - ós singer and chanter, Sandra Joyce singer and bodhran player are two amazing teachers I met at the Irish World Music Summer School  - Blas, many years ago.  Niamh Parsons & Delores Keane are firm favourites & I love discovering new  female artists.
I'll probably go to a session on St Patrick's day and there's a band playing at one of the Irish pubs in the evening I want to see. Sliánte"

Patronage 2024
St Patrick’s Day is just a few days away. I love the holiday. Obviously, a big part of that is because it’s my birthday. However, I also have a deep love of Celtic culture and music. It’s why I lead Celtic Invasion Vacations every summer and why I host the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast. I got some feedback this week. A fan of the show lamented that we are losing some great Celtic music. There are…

12:43 - THE STORY OF MYRA’S LAMENT FOR LAMLASH BAY
I plagiarise songs into local events..the one I sang last night I wrote at 3 AM in the morning. My wife had been in hospital 100 miles away, for two months, and the chorus came to my head when I was feeling sorry for myself. Simultaneously, the Government had decided to ban us clamming in Lamlash Bay. I’d sustainably hand picked scallops there for 34 years. The trawler/dredgers were destroying the habitat, and they wanted to
ban them. But they done us in as well… a Federal hammer to crack a wee nut!!!! So, the song is called “Myra’s lament for Lamlash Bay”…Lamlash is at the Isle of Arran.
Tommy Makem inspired my plagiarism with “The Boys from Killybegs.” Killybegs is a fishing port in Donegal, Ireland..Dun Na Gael…. The Fortress of the Stranger. Tommy famously sang and played banjo with the Glancy Brothers..
Sgheirs:- Gaelic..reefs pronounced “skerries.
clams”:- generic term in Scotland for bivalve shellfish..we fish for scallops..Pecten maximus
Sound:- navigable stretch of water between two pieces of land in this case formed by the Tarbert shore and Isle of Arran.
Thole :- Lalands Scots (old Scots) my work they won’t accept or tolerate.
Dole:- Un-employment register
Listen to the original version of the song on the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast #85.
Myra’s Lament for Lamlash Bay
lyrics Liam Griffin, music Marc Gunn
There are scallops in the sea, put there for you and me By the Lord who reigns from heaven above. And the divers catch and sell, but we won’t go to hell, We treat the sea with joy, respect and love.
* There’s a wild and rolling sea bringing me back home to ye. To yer bed that’s dry and crisp and woman warm And our lovin’ knows no harm when I hold ye in my arms. When the Boys from Lerags Glen come rollin’ home.
There are rocks upon the shore, There are sgheirs even more* And the trawlers they are dredging to and fro’ But the diver’s in the gully, for the seabed we don’t sully Hand pickin’ is the way I chose to go.
But today the sea is calm and the boat is full of clams** And swiftly we have cleared KilBrannon Sound..*** Sacks of scallops stacked up high All our divers safe and dry And soon for Lerags Glen we’re homeward bound.
But now a new day’s dawned and time is moving on and conservation is a game that they al play and my work the cannot thole and I’m told to sign the dole No more from Lerags Glen go to the sea.

Christopher Fennell replied to my Re: Happy St Patrick's Month Feedback Request:  "Hi Marc, I love your podcast! I'm celebrating the early part of St. Patrick's month by volunteering in the Iditarod race in Alaska. I'll be singing Celtic tunes while taking care of the huskies running for 1,049 frozen miles from Anchorage to Nome. I have dual citizenship with the Republic, as my grandparents immigrated from Roscommon, Dublin, and Limerick. Perhaps I can start a sled - dog team representing the Republic somewhere in the future. Best wishes,"
Ben Doran replied to my feedback request: "Hello Marc;
The weather here in Wisconsin today definitely inspires kilt wear. And weather/whether or not it is nearly this nice on St. Patrick's Day weekend, I'll be kilting it up. And singing with the band Ar Ais Aris (a - rash a - reesh)("Back Again") on Saturday in Berwyn, Il; then Sunday, to Galena, Il; then finish up with our two usual gigs for retirement communities in Rockton, Il and Beloit, WI on Monday. I will (yep) probably color my beard in orange and green for Monday.
I think among the many new sounds/new music that I've heard from your podcasts, it would be the band, Larkin, that has my fancy (this week, anyway). No, I don't consider myself fickle, just distracted.  Slainte, Marc!!"
woodland folk emailed a photo: "heading to the wood for a fire and a practice, can listen then my friend... Attached is a picture,me and another friend who plays a Welsh harp, stopped to play a little on the river brue ...."
Nathanael Stottlemyer emailed: "We're losing Good Celtic Music
Hi Marc, It was last year that I started listening to your podcast, and like a mad man I started your podcast at the very beginning. I'm now at the year 2016 and I've loved every episode. There is just one problem. When I look up the bands that I loved and that I want to purchase their music, they're gone. There's no website, no Spotify, no YouTube, sometimes I can't even find their CD's used! And it's a shame, because they're good songs and sometimes, take Young Hunting by Serious Kitchen (Which was in your best of the year podcasts more than once) it's the only Celtic rendition of the song on the internet. I managed to buy the last Tig! Album off the internet, but it's looking bad for some of my other favorites.
We're losing years of Celtic music, and it's a shame, especially since I know that the members of Serious Kitchen and others are still around. I don't suppose I'm missing a way to buy these albums. I really hope I am. I don't suppose you could use your amazing Celtfather connections and reach out to some of the people of these bands and see if they'd put on Bandcamp? Or perhaps a huge "Best of the Irish and Celtic Music Podcast" album with some of these lost treasures? They're some of the best music I've heard. Thanks, Nathanael"

Story of transformation and overcoming fear.
70’s songwriter feel with the minor chord change.
Come Adventure With Me
Lyrics and music Marc Gunn
There's a secret door to a hall unknown Inside are fears that Turn me to stone Do I step forward Or head back home Which is the path for me I raise my head and Take one step more The ground it shakes. I look back to the door Feel like I’m caught and stuck to the floor And so I cut myself free
* This world’s a treasure that is full of strife Every moment can enrich your life Just face your dragons with the edge of a knife It’s a better life you see Come adventure with me.
There are ugly goblins doing scary things Deep down in dungeons there are magic rings Live or die with the riddles we bring You’ll find your way through the dark My Precious life Has so many memories Fluttering birds, butterflies in trees My home is comfort, comfort is a breeze But there’s another way to live
So many wars. It’s an endless fight To slay our dragons that soar through our night But I’m no coward. I’ll do what is right. Before I make my way home. Now I’m back with stories that ring A truth That soars up on eagle wings Let’s not forget the songs elves sing Oh the joy that they bring!

All that for as little as $1 per episode.
A special thanks to our new and continued Celtic Legends: Bill Mandeville, Marti Meyers, Brenda, Karen DM Harris, Emma Bartholomew, Dan mcDade, Carol Baril, Miranda Nelson, Nancie Barnett, Kevin Long, Gary R Hook, Lynda MacNeil, Kelly Garrod, Annie Lorkowski, Shawn Cali
