"B Queen" & "B King"

I created “B Queen” a few years ago, getting inspired by NikkieTutorials' video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z9t8cbS2Oqg&t=2s). Choosing to embrace the gentle side of women's beauty, I aimed at creating artwork with a harmonious aesthetic. Years passed by, I have learned and discovered a lot about both the outside world and the inner world. I think there are always male and female parts in each human in general and woman in particular, so why not create “B King” too? A woman should be both, can be both a king and a queen for herself.

Fashion is an art and I believe that Dolce & Gabbana's Alta Moda FW 2018/19 fashion show in Lake Como can be considered as an artistic masterpiece, it truly impressed me. When I saw Eva Herzigova jauntily parading a floral gold-embroidered pale blue frock coat with matching waistcoat and slim tailored pants, and finished off with a regal crown, I said to myself: "Voila, perfect inspiration for “B King”!”.

Both “B Queen” and “B King” are mixed media paintings. I created them with the same process as I have explained in many other blog posts: Draw a detailed pencil drawing, scan it in high resolution, then color it with Adobe Photoshop and play with different textures to come up with desired effects. (You can see my whole step-by-step working process in the video below). The 2 pieces are in high contrast: one is dreamy, sensual, feminine with bright pastel colors; the other is strong, assertive, mystical with dark ocean blue tones. One is a woman in her most gentle peaceful moment, the other is in her boldest, most powerfully confident look. One is as light as air, the other is as deep as the ocean.

Sometimes, human beings are too divided by social categorization, stereotyping and prejudice, by beauty standards, etc. While in fact, everything/everyone is connected somehow, at the same time no one is exactly like the other. The truth is: Whatever type of beauty/ look you have, no matter how much contradictory you find within you, no matter how different you are, as long as you stay true to yourself, as long as you can embrace it with a sense of dignity, that's more than enough. You're more than enough. A human body has about 37.2 trillion cells and somehow they all work together to make the body function as a whole unit. That alone is more than enough to make any of us a living wonder.

Lấy cảm hứng từ video của NikkieTutorials, vài năm trước mình đã vẽ "B Queen" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z9t8cbS2Oqg&t=2s). Mình chọn nâng niu nét đẹp dịu dàng của người phụ nữ nên khi vẽ bức này mình hướng đến thẩm mỹ trong sự hài hòa. Nhiều năm trôi qua, mình đã học hỏi khám phá thêm nhiều về cả thế giới bên ngoài lẫn thế giới bên trong. Mình nghĩ luôn có phần tính nam và phần tính nữ trong mỗi con người nói chung và người phụ nữ nói riêng vậy tại sao mình lại không vẽ thêm “B King” nữa. Một người phụ nữ nên là cả hai, có thể là cả vua và cả hoàng hậu cho chính bản thân mình.

Thời trang là nghệ thuật và mình tin bộ sưu tập Alta Moda thu đông 2018/19 của Dolce & Gabbana bên bồ Como có thể được coi là một "tuyệt tác", nó thực sự đã gây ấn tượng rất mạnh với mình. Ngay khi mình thấy Eva Herzigova vui nhộn trình diễn trong chiếc áo choàng dài màu xanh da trời nhạt có thêu họa tiết hoa lá bằng vàng với áo gi-lê đồng bộ cùng quần tây cắt may vừa vặn phối với một chiếc vương miện tinh xảo thì mình đã tự nhủ: "Đây rồi, nguồn cảm hứng "hoàn hảo" để vẽ “B King” đây rồi!"

Cả “B Queen” và “B King” đều là tranh mixed-media. Quy trình vẽ hai bức theo cùng một phương pháp như mình đã giải thích trong nhiều bài viết khác trên blog này: Mình vẽ bản vẽ chì hoàn thiện rồi scan nó với độ phân giải cao, sau đó tô màu trên Photoshop và phối hợp nhiều hiệu ứng khác nhau để tạo ra kết quả mong muốn. (Các bạn có thể xem quá trình mình vẽ từng bước trong video phía dưới nhé). Hai bức vẽ này mang đầy tính tương phản lẫn nhau: Một bức thì mơ mộng, nhục cảm, nữ tính với gam màu phấn sáng nhẹ; bức còn lại thì mạnh mẽ, đầy vẻ tự chủ quyết đoán và huyền bí với tông màu xanh biển đậm. Một bức là người phụ nữ trong phút giây dịu dàng bình yên nhất, bức còn lại là người phụ nữ táo bạo đầy sức mạnh của sự tự tin. Một bức nhẹ bay như không, bức còn lại sâu chìm như đại dương.

Đôi lúc, con người bị chia cắt quá rạch ròi bởi sự phân loại xã hội, bởi những khuôn mẫu và định kiến, bởi những tiêu chuẩn sắc đẹp, vv. Trong khi đó, trên thực tế mọi thứ/ mọi con người đều có liên hệ với nhau theo một cách nào đó, đồng thời không ai giống y hệt một ai khác. Sự thật là: dù dung mạo bạn thế nào, bạn có nét đẹp kiểu gì, dù bạn có tự thấy trong bản thân nhiều mâu thuẫn ra sao, bạn có khác biệt thế nào thì miễn là bạn có thể thực sự thành thật với chính mình, có thể ôm ấp tất cả chúng với phẩm giá và lòng tự trọng thì điều ấy đã là quá đủ, bạn quá đủ rồi. Cơ thể người có khoảng 37.2 nghìn tỷ tế bào và thế nào đó chúng cùng "bắt tay" làm việc với nhau để cơ thể của chúng mình hoạt động như một thể thống nhất. Chỉ điều đó thôi đã đủ để khiến bất kể ai trong chúng ta thành một kỳ quan sống rồi.
