09. 04. 21 // literature review
Today (and pretty much this entire week) Iāve been working really hard on my literature review and trying to get it finished. But Iām ngl, itās been really heavy and I think I need to just take a break for a bitā¦ which I think is okay??? Rest enhances perseverance and I need to remember that.

Day 22 of 60 Days of Productivity
i am determined to write a history essay plan today that iāve been putting off for literally over a week. iām also hopefully going to finish learning my german oral questions because i have a mock tomorrow and i want to at least mostly know them for that. the assessments all feel very close now considering i go back to school in two days and that is a little overwhelming but iām hoping that once i get into the swing of things that iāll be ok

What to do when youāre having a poor executive function day/been sitting in front of your computer for a few hours wondering why you canāt do your work:Ā
1. Take a deep breath - Let out all that anxiety over the project youāre doing so you can think clearly
2. Pull up a clean sheet of paper and something to write with - You can use a fresh word doc, new page in your journal or planner or whatever else works for you, the idea is that after this you will have a physical list to look at to help keep you on task.
3. Identify your obstacles (i.e. What is keeping you from doing this task?) - For example: Is it scary? If so, why? Does it feel too hard? Is there something else that you feel needs to be done first? Write these down!
4. Plan how to overcome your obstacles - This can take some creativity and some thinking to best figure out how to overcome the obstacle. Iāve included examples below for potential plans.
Example 1:
Obstacle: I donāt know the best way to approach this task.
Plan: Brainstorm on paper ways that you might be able to approach this task. Google ways to accomplish this task. Review lecture notes or example homework problems on how to accomplish this task. Ask a friend/coworker/classmate how they might start the task. Write down everything you feel might be relevant until you feel like you know where to start and where to go.
Example 2:
Obstacle: This feels too big and overwhelming so I donāt want to do it.
Plan: Break down the tasks into smaller, tiny tasks. Make them as small as you need to make them feel manageable. Write down all these tasks check them off as you go.Ā
Example 3:
Obstacle: Iām waiting for someone to get back to me with comments on this project but theyāre taking too long.
Plan: Follow up with this person and identify what you can do without their comments. For example, if youāre waiting for someone to sent you a section of a project or paper, write your section to the best of your ability. Can you have someone else review this project and still get good feedback. Or tell yourself youāll revise/edit your project and integrate their comments later when you get to them. Often when I identify what feels out of order, I can move past it or put it farther down my list so Iām no longer just stuck waiting.
5. Encourage yourself and commend yourself for filling in the gaps actively that your brain couldnāt do on itās own today. - Youāre doing a great job!
Sincerely,
A Graduate Student with Adult ADHD

Finally, pictures from my new dorm room! Itās pretty similar to the old one but way closer to the city center - and I miss the black desk a bit. But I also get even more natural light and the pretty golden tones in the evening. Overall? I really like it here!
Now that I got one exam out of the way, I spend my day as always these past few days in the radio vc letting others play me some tunes

Another Tuesday, another study group session on Zoom! Seriously, I think all the stuff surrounding our current situation would have been so much harder for me to handle if I hadnāt met such lovely people right in the beginning of the programme. I am so thankful that they put up with me and my (sometimes) weird habits and everything, and even more that we are always there to support each other.Ā

It is terrifying to look at the big picture sometimes, isnāt it? So, instead let us take it day by day. Moment by moment.Ā Breath by breath. You most definitely have heard it a thousand times: All you have is now. And that is true. But sometimes it is also all you need to get through a difficult period. Looking at what lies ahead can make us feel extremely anxious, scared and overwhelmed - whether it is the entire day, the entire week, the entire month or the entire year. Living can feel like a daunting task and it is okay to feel this way, my love. In moments of absolute dread, take deep breaths and focus on what you are doing right that second. Close your eyes and remind yourself that now is all you need to conquer. Let us be present and heal in the moment.

Maths - Mini Quiz Feedback HW
Itās so much nicer doing schoolwork during the evenings now Iāve moved my desk, as itās a lot brighter (though I do get blinded as the sunās going down, haha!). Small anecdote from today: there was a mouse in our further maths classroom, so we spent half the lesson watching the caretakers chase it around the room so they could take it outside š
