yeahhh exactly like it was honestly subtle enough that i didn't really pick up on it and then i started ats and i was like "oh he's actually really funny" lol. and a lot of it does kind of have to do with his growth as a character i just find it funny that almost zero of it happened throughout the course of btvs so its just really interesting (and on some levels a little jarring) once he's grown more and fully smiling and jokey and banter-y all the time in his spinoff

i think one of the funniest parts about angel getting a whole spinoff series was the fact the first season kind of absolutely sucks because throughout btvs angel has quite literally no personality. so they had to write in as many side characters as they could think of for him to play off of because you could replace angel himself with a cardboard cutout occasionally spitting out exposition and it wouldn't change a thing about all of buffy and the first season-and-a-half-ish of angel.

BAHAHA ty for noticing my commentary hidden in the tags so i can make this rant post about it lmao

first off, im aware its a tv show and some things need to be dramatized or exaggerated for the purpose of achieving a certain effect in the show. especially in an episode like the body, a lot of choices went into very intentionally setting a tone for the episode. however, that being said-

towards the very beginning of the episode, buffy calls 911 and a couple of paramedics show up. they tell her that her MOM is DEAD, get another call, and UP AND LEAVE. and in real life they would absolutely NEVER FUCKING DO THAT and it drives me INSANE every time i rewatch it.

take this with a grain of salt because the extent of my medical knowledge is first aid and lifeguard training, but according to everything ive ever been taught about BASIC FIRST AID they absolutely should not have left her alone, because they weren't done treating every patient on that scene. buffy is quite VISIBLY in shock, which requires treatment just as much as a physical injury. yet all they do is tell her to sit down, ask her if there's anyone else coming, and then leave. like they don't even at least make sure she's sitting down or confirm in some way that somebody's coming before just leaving. maybe protocols and training with that sort of thing was different at the time that the ep came out, but i kind of doubt it. she could have fainted, she DOES throw up, and just...who actually thinks its a good idea to just leave someone whose mother just died and is clearly in shock completely alone?? certainly not trained medical professionals.

again, i could potentially be wrong about this, and im also fully aware it was for that dramatic intense effect the audience gets from her being left completely alone to deal with the fact her mom just died, but today at least that definitely is not how that would go down. at least one of the paramedics would have stayed behind and talked with her and made sure she was okay at least until giles got there. and it mostly just makes me upset for buffy because she should not have been treated like that lol.

In case no one told you growing up

Bras last longer if you let them air dry. Don’t put them in the dryer.

If you have a problem with frizzy hair, don’t dry your hair with a towel. It makes the frizzies worse. (I recently read an article that said to use a t-shirt? I brush mine out and let it air dry.)

Whites wash best in hot water. Everything else can be in cold - save on your electricity bill.

You can kill 99.9% of germs in a sponge by putting it in the dishwasher for a cycle or by microwaving it for 2 min (be sure to make the sponge damp before microwaving and to put a cup half full of water in with it and please DO NOT squeeze the sponge until it has cooled off)

Airing out your room/house and letting sunlight in every so often can decrease the number of household pests like silverfish and ants.

Black underwear is best during your period as stains are less likely to be visible.

To save money, put aside 10% of each paycheck into a savings account. It’ll add up.

Unless your hair has something on/in it (like grease or mud or something), using conditioner first can actually be the better choice. The conditioner holds in the good oils that help you hair look sleek and beautiful, which shampoo would otherwise wash away.

Speaking of shampoo - if you have long hair, washing just the bits that touch your scalp is generally enough. The rest of your hair gets cleaned with just the run off from your scalp.

If you put a tampon in and it’s uncomfortable/you can feel it, you didn’t do it quite right. A properly placed tampon is virtually unnoticeable by the wearer.

Apply deodorant/antiperspirant a couple hours in advance of when you need it. This gives the product the chance to block your sweat glands. Using deodorant just before going somewhere where you’ll sweat (this means walking outside for people in high humidity places) results in your sweat washing the deodorant off and starkly limiting its usefulness.

(yknow. buffy with the staying strong for everyone else and blaming herself. xander with the wall punching and quietness but still trying to make jokes. willow with the changing outfits and searching so hard for something she CAN control. anya with the trying so hard to comprehend something she went so long without having to understand. giles with the taking care of everything.) the episode thats one of only two buffy the vampire slayer episodes to be a featured article on wikipedia. the episode that might be the best done piece of television i’ve ever seen. the episode that had me nauseous cause i was crying that hard. you know the one.

i think one of the things that i think about a lot is if you actually listen to the lyrics of tied up my heart....its not a love song at all. like as much as it sounds like it, and as much as pokey is trying to convince charlotte it is, sam just straight up does not love her anymore and cant even fake it while infected lmao. he tells her he feels tied down by her, caged up by being with her, and literally ADMITS TO CHEATING ON HER in between trying to convince her that if she lets him go he'll love her. and charlotte falls for it, in my opinion not because she doesnt hear the lyrics but because she doesnt WANT to. like she so desperately wants to believe that any part of sam still loves her that she completely ignores what he's actually saying just so she can believe he's telling the truth about loving her.

expanding on this a little, i was def exaggerating a little and maybe it was just my awful memory but i remember being SO thrown off when angel starting cracking jokes and being super smiley in ats bc the only things i remembered about him from buffy were "dark and broody emo vampire." i didnt like him very much in buffy but as ats found its footing i grew to like his character a lot more once they started to...actually characterize him
