Advice for Indian/ Desi people who are going to live on their own for the first time- an incomplete list
Invest in quality airtight containers.
Keep a file of your electricity bills and other physical bills.
Keep purchase receipts for utensils and machines under warranty carefully.
Get a physical calender.
Even if you don't want to be friends with them, at least keep awareness of your neighbours. Introduce yourself if you can or ask your parents to talk to them. Make them aware of your existence.
Listen to your maids gossip but don't tell her anything in return. Pay her nicely. Give her your old clothes, utensils you may not be using etc.
Even if you might be ordering your groceries and stuff online, please be aware of your locality shops. Go on walks in evening and note your nearest grocery shops, chemist, clinic, tailor, laundry, vegetable guy.
Get contact information for electrician, plumber, 1-2 auto guys. Keep these numbers noted physically somewhere as well.
Invest in good steel or plastic water bottles.
Gala Cleaning Products are generally nice.
Even if you have maid to clean your house, clean it yourself once in a while. Sweep, mop, clean the window sills and fans, empty and clean the kitchen shelves. Helps you get to know your house that's holding you and your life.
Find out those herbal remedies for minor illnesses from your parents and stock them.
At least learn how to make your comfort food or sick person food.
Get a therapist.

z library got taken down because booktok blew it up, not realising it provided access to literature in third world countries where physical copies are expensive due to extra taxation and new releases are difficult to come by ???? like i'm glad booktok got more people to read but fuck you if you ever carelessly mentioned it or made a tiktok about it

the sapphic urge to take pictures of your friends, listen to exile and champagne problems to feel heartbroken, watch video essays on something rather than look it up, not mend the complicated relationship with your mother, kin lady bird, use the anatomical heart emoji instead of the normal one, buy candles but never burn them, blast sapphic songs at 4 am, fill your bedroom with a hundred different things that all somehow not just yours but entirely you, adamantly use wired earphones, use claw clips and hair sticks, keep promises, blast all too well 10 minute version in the car, dress fruitier than a fruit, bake red velvet cupcakes for your younger sister when she's sad, vist museums to look like art, write love letters to your friends and communicate primarily through voice notes

a lot of young girls need to realize that keeping friendships alive gets so hard after high school/uni and that you have to actively nurture your friendships if you want them to last yes even the friendships of 2 decades….. your 20s are so disorienting and trauamtizing no one can afford to take friendships for granted… everybody worries about not finding a romantic partner lets start worrying about being friendless by the time you hit 30

“I think you lost all interest in this world. You were disappointed and discouraged, and lost interest in everything. So you abandoned your physical body. You went to a world apart and you’re living a different kind of life there. In a world inside you.”

Quote
But heaven wasn't what you were aiming for You didn't think the other side would be better You thought the other side would be nothing at all Imagine choosing nothing at all Imagine something hurting that bad
Andrea Gibson- The day you died because you wanted to
.
.
As someone who has been so suicidal recently, this made me cry. Because I don't know if I'll ever be happy, and I doubt it, but I love my friends and family to pieces and I'm not so blind that I don't know how utterly I will break them if I leave. I may not deserve happiness but they do.

-- and even now if you were to say "leave all your new lovers, be mine" I would be yours in a heartbeat. If you were to say "I hate your existence and I don't want you to talk to me and be near me or anyone I know ever again" I would respect those wishes. Because while my mind is moving on and while I may appear to be breezing through every new day, my heart is still where it was in the beginning of February, with my nose smushed against yours and the taste of your mom's khandvi lingering on my lips.

since it's Dusshera today the day know for the right side's win over the wrong one
celebration of the victory of good over evil and it's lgbtq+ history month
here's another history lesson for indian queers
Tumblr media
In 1987, Leela and Urmila, two policewomen from Madhya Pradesh, married each other in the first ever documented case of its kind. Their marriage was one of the first and most widely reported instance of same-sex marriage in India.
(both of them were later removed from their positions and were imprisoned. they continued to face discrimination for being 'immoral women' and for 'setting bad example over fellow women' due to which were forced to leave their village.)
SAY THEIR NAMES
