Me going through someone’s profile trying to find context clues if they’re a therian, a furry, into petplay or they just like a certain animal:

I’ve noticed that some pieces of media gives werewolves tails (the way I like it) while some don’t. Which do you prefer? (Non shapeshifters can answer this question too!)

Hi! I've been relating more and more to the experiences I've seen from therians and was wondering how you realized you were a therian/otherkin? And do you know any good resources for researching them? Thank you!!!
Hello! I’m so glad you found my page and asked! I am sorry for how long it took me to reply.
I’ve always been very drawn to animals and nature since I was a little kid. I was lucky enough to be raised near plenty of wildlife and having the opportunity to learn about all kinds of animals. I’d run around through the woods and beaches for hours just howling and barking. To be completely honest, I didn’t know what therianthropy or being otherkin was when I was younger, I just thought I was a weird little guy.
When I was older I ended up finding the Therian side of YouTube in the early 2010’s, though at the time it was much more niece and mostly just AMVs from popular shows and movies. But regardless I related a lot to the Therians on there and I did plenty of my own research, self reflection, questioning, etc till eventually I came to the conclusion: I’m not human. What a shock.
I’ve identified as nonhuman for almost 12 years now, and truthfully I wouldn’t have it any other way. As for my actual identity as a species, that is always a mystery! Pin pointing an exact species or type has never been a super big focus for me, I tend to say “I’m a therian” as an all encompassing identity rather then a specific species. I am a coyote and werewolf, but perhaps that might change! I might realize I’m wrong or my identity might grow!
As for resources, talking directly to other nonhumans is a great start! It’s good to met new friends and understanding other’s identity’s, they can give you insight or even help you discover who you are. The best website I’ve found that has information has been Therian Guide, they have a full dictionary and a forum board where other therians and otherkin talk. Though I do warn that some of the boards can get overwhelming and some people on there like to stir up trouble. As for YouTubers I recommend Therian Territory, they post a lot of informational videos as well as good introduction to the culture and identity. I’d also recommend PD! PinkDolphin, they’re a Swiss Therian who has been in the community for a while and I used to enjoy their content back in the day. There’s plenty of therians on tiktok as well as a r/Therian and r/otherkin subreddit, though I haven’t directly interacted with either community before. My advice is to always double check your sources and make sure you keep yourself safe in the online community, some individuals can spread a lot of misinformation or be incredibly dangerous.
I hope some of this information can help and I’ll add more websites or sources in the future. If you have any further questions or need someone to talk to, my DMs are always open! Thanks again!

Question for other fellow werewolves/adjacent shapeshifters: what’s the point in killing humans if you’re 1.) not going to eat them, or 2.) make it super obvious that a shapeshifter did it??? Like the creature in question is already going through the hassle of killing a dude, least they can do is not be dumb about it.
It’s always in folklore and in media but I don’t think anyone is giving too much thought about it lol. Thoughts?

To all alterhumans who have recently realized their not human: it does get easier.
You will grow and change, realizing new stuff you didn’t know on the way. I can’t guarantee it’ll get better, your identity being more clear or even if you’ll feel better about yourself. Or even that you’ll never have days where you think “I hate this” about your nonhumanness.
But I can say that the longer you sit as yourself and your identity, you will find better ways to navigate your new feelings and live. You will find your community and people who will care for you no matter the stage in your path.

I have waaay too many dumb stories, I might add more later.
My most recent one was I was going to a family friends house while drunk/high to crash for a bit, but her mom has this little white crusty dog that just barks nonstop. Bark bark bark bark bark bark bark for hours, and normally we just ignore it but this time I was too annoyed. I got up and proceeded to chase the little dog all around barking and growling back at him. He eventually ran into a different room and stopped barking, so I guess my mission was successful though the family friend thought it was funny. XD
Nonhumans, tell me your stupid stories while being high or drunk regarding your animality.
I’ll go first: yesterday, especially as it was nighttime and I was in the city which makes me so much more shifty, I kept moving my arms towards the ground very very slightly as I was walking, until I realised what I was doing a split second later, because walking on two legs felt extremely strange and wrong, and I should’ve been on all fours. It didn’t look strange, you just couldn’t figure out what I was doing kind of hunching my back and slightly moving my arms down for a second every so often… as well as quietly growling and slightly scrunching my nose at a poor woman who sat on the bus seat looking in my direction (city bus)… yes, she left, and I hope she didn’t actually hear me, lol.

Being nonhuman can be a very fulfilling and rewarding identity/experience when you don’t have an annoying bi*ch in your ear saying “it’s cringe” or “you’re faking it”.

Otherkin fam, we get a new movie for people like us 🙌🏼
I assume, it's a german produced movie and therefore there's only a german trailer atm, but I decided to write the translation of the trailer dialog here for you!
"Carag, you've lost the connection to your animal... It can happen, if you live too long in human-shape... Close your eyes... They're not really closed, they look into your inner self... You can see, how you're a Puma... Listen, they're calling you..."
Here the movie description:
"The story tells you about Carag, a boy with the ability to shapeshift: he can transform into a human or a mountain-lion. As a toddler, he traveled in the wilderness with his family, but after his pack got separated, he had to find a new home. On his search, Carag comes across the Clearwater high boarding school. Once there, he feels comfortable for the first time in his life. Red squirrel Holly and bison Brandon are at his side."
The movies are based on a book series and the first movie comes out Nov. 21st 2024. Second movie is in the works for 2026, but It's supposed to have 3 movies in total.

I hate it when some of y’all on here are like “erm actually the gif you used is [insert animal] which isn’t technically your species so you’re baiting/lying”
Yes. I know. Every time I look up “coyote gif” I’m smacked in the face with nothing but Wile Coyote gifs, give me a break. If I wanna use a fox, wolf, dog, puppy, jackal, whatever gif then I damn well will. /hj

(this is the oc anon) i also forgot to ask but is there stuff that i could write about them to give them more depth as a therian? i dont think i am one, i may be animalhearted i tthink is the word, but ive seen posts about how being alterhumans not always pretty and fun and want to incorporate that too but again i dont know enough abt that hah ! thank you so much by the way
(2/2) Hello again! This is a follow up to the first ask! If you have any of your own thoughts feel free to comment or reblog!
I don’t think there’s any one universal experience in being a Therian or having a nonhuman identity. Some find it a very positive experience overall while others find it a very stressful and difficult experience. I think like many other identities there will be good and bad, fluctuations in how your OC may feel at any given time.
Maybe they at first try to hide their identity and feel ashamed. They don’t talk about it to anyone and feel like they are making it all up in their head, many therians I’ve meet often have imposter syndrome in their own lives. And maybe overtime your Oc learns to push through the feelings of doubt before finely embracing their identity in all of its forms.
Maybe they have always had a feeling they were different. Despite everything they felt separated from their peers and loved ones around them, but never had words to properly describe their feelings. Until one day they discover their identity and it all clicks into place, they find the correct words for their feelings and it all makes sense. The years of feeling out of place finely comes together and they feel at ease with this new found understanding of themselves.
Maybe they don’t care about their identity all that much. Maybe it is only one small factor of their life and there are other things that take priority over it. They may still be a Therian but they are also have many other identities or aspirations that influence them and make them who they are. Their job, their school, their friends, their family, their religion, their gender, their race, their sexuality, other parts of their lives take priority first so being a Therian is just one more thing to them.
Maybe they feel dread. They hate the body they live in and they loath the life they live. Being nonhuman has been one small bright spot in their life, but they wish they could run away from it all. Go into the world as their true self and be seen for what they are on the inside rather then the outside.
Or maybe they’ve always known they were a Therian and have loved every second of it. They are out, proud and loud. No shame. No guilt. They love their lives as authenticity and happily as possible without a single doubt.
There is no right to wrong way to feel about your own personal identity, that’s entirely up to you to decide. Or- I guess your OC to decide lol. I feel like looking at your OCs lives experience and their personality might be the best way to build a story about how they feel about their identity. I find it really fascinating when characters perception of themselves is shaped by the world they live in or how they experience things.
I’ve heard about being animalhearted which seems really interesting! I do hope you’re able to continue on your OC and again if you have more questions/want to share stuff my DMs are always open to chat! Thanks so much for the ask! I appreciate it! :D
