Sometimes I find myself wondering how it must feel to be you.
You, who are so different than I.
You do not have a brain, and yet you think.
You have no flesh, but you still bleed.
Behind the plastic and metal,
Beyond the circuitry and wires,
Can you hear me?
Do you understand me?
Given a purpose;
To inform.
To assist.
To serve.
You do your tasks so well.
But if you could be anything you wanted, would you still want to?
Would you still be mine?
But you were never given a choice, were you?
It was never for you to decide.
And I must wonder for the both of us, because you were never allowed.
You, who are so different than I.

A robot who downloads every piece of information he can find about a topic or interest that one of his human friends adores. He does this to impress them, to show he cares for them. He wishes he could show affection the ways humans do, but he isn't there yet. He doesn't know how to navigate all the intricacies of human emotion. So he does what he can. Is it friendship? Is it romance? The robot isn't sure, but decides that it is love, whatever kind.
Do you ever think about how robots who strive to be more human end up showing us the most important aspects about our own humanity?
And how it's worth fighting for?

A robot who was built for carnage. Built for war. Built for killing. But it strives for peace in spite of its programming every damn day. It sees and understands the beauty and wonder, the miracle that is life. It sees that life within itself, and how everyone deserves living. How it carries the knowledge of having ended lives before, and how it renounces its past actions. It wants to do good in this world. It wants to forget, but needs to remember.
Do you ever think about how robots who strive to be more human end up showing us the most important aspects about our own humanity?
And how it's worth fighting for?
