This is all spot on. I have learned so much from the Paula's Choice brand and website - not sponsored by them, just really believe in that company and what it does.
Worst beauty ideas?
I have been loving watching the Paula’s choice expert team’s live chat show, where they discuss everything about skin, beauty, myths and makeup. They are so interesting and you learn a lot from the shows. They have scientific facts, they are well educated and speak from both a scientific view and beauty. They have their own beautypedia site where they test products and can tell you wether or not they are worth it. As I have myself been studying anatomy and biology/chemistry you realize there is a lot of craziness in the beauty world.. Here are just some myths (busted) that hopefully stop you from wasting time…:))
1. Some people put ice directly onto their skin, thinking it will de-puff their eyes or get rid of pimples. Actually you should never put ice directly on the skin as it can create a shock reaction and causing inflammation. Dark circles and bags under eyes are genetic and can’t really be treated. What you can do is a light massage perhaps if you have temporary puffiness under the eyes, but only temporarily.
2. Natural products are the better than syntethic? NO. Syntethic ingredients are in fact specifically designed to suit the skin, a banana isn’t. What scares people are all those unpronounceable names on the label, where as orange and cocoa is familiar to most, thinking “oh that won’t hurt, I know what this is”. But that doesn’t mean that natural products won’t irritate the skin. A rule of thumb is that anything heavily fragranced (like eucalyptus, lavender, citrus, rose etc) is a potential irritant. Also anything in a jar-packaging is basically a waste of money as the constant exposure to air will diminish its benefits.
3. Makeup causes acne? It has actually never been scientifically proven. There are products you may have an allergic reaction to, resulting in acne, but makeup itself is not really proven to cause acne. You should not really trust anything saying “non-comedogenic”, as they can’t guarantee you won’t get a reaction.
4. You need a specific cream for your eyes? Not really.. Anything the rest of your face can handle, so can the eyes. You don’t need a specific cream labeled “eyes”. Some people may prefer a richer cream around the eyes if they have drier skin there, but you’re just as well to use a face lotion around the eyes.
5. Chocolate causes acne? Then everyone on earth would have breakouts. People eat chocolate everyday, not noticing any difference in skin. We are all individual, if you are allergic to certain foods it may show in your skin, but not all greasy food will magically go straight to the skin and break you out. However eating dark leafy greens and maintaining a balanced diet is always good, but candy is not going to break you out in theory.
6. Expensive wrinkle creams will magically make your wrinkles disappear? There are unfortunately no magic potion out there, daily use of well-formulated sun protection is the best option for your skin.
7. It’s a good when a product cool or tingle skin? Actually this sensation is your skin being irritated, not helped.
8. You should change up your products frequently, as the skin adapts to products and eventually stop working? No, skin doesn’t adapt to skin-care any more than your body adapts to a healthy diet.
9. Steaming your face will make pimples and oil go away? Steaming your face is actually very damaging to the skin and ironically triggers the skin to produce more oil.
10. Detox is a must? The whole detox concept is silly, as the skin does not hold on to toxins, and also the body cleanses itself. Detox smoothies, meals etc., is another way to make people buy expensive products, not really seeing any difference.
11. Does skin breathe? No skin is definitely not a respiratory organ and does not breathe what so ever, that would actually be fatal haha. Makeup can feel heavy on the skin, but it certainly does not suffocate the skin.
12. Chemicals are bad? You often hear people saying “I don’t want anything with chemicals in it”. Everything in this entire world/universe is made up of chemicals, so if you would want a product without chemicals, you would have nothing. But you do have bad chemicals and good chemicals.
13. Lemon juice for lightening pigmentation? Lemon juice is not really something you want to put on the skin, it will only irritate. Besides there are much better products out there formulated to take care of brown spots and what not.
You can find lots more information on their website Paula’s choice or follow them on YouTube! I think they are so fun and they explain really well!

I have only tried the Smooth/Rose (pink bottle, centre) and the Shine/Daisy (yellow bottle, right) lines but they are both amazing. Some of the most beautiful scented collections out there. It's hard to find them now, I've never even seen the other two in this photo before!

When I saw the new Herbal Essences Bio-Renew line at the store, I was really excited!  I've always had good luck herbal essences products so I decided to go with the one that smelled the best - the Arabica Coffee Fruit was my favourite scent.  I don't think the coffee scent comes through much, but that's actually good for me.  To me it smells like expensive French perfume, strong and sweet.  An intoxicating scent, for sure.  It is a thick clear (it has no added colours!) shampoo that lathers extremely well.  Cleaned my hair really well with no residue  If you have extremely dry or damaged hair you may want a shampoo with a little more moisture, but this was great for me.  I followed it up with the matching conditioner and blowdried my hair with a round brush and was very happy with the results. I had shine and smoothness, and most of all it gave my fine hair some nice body!  Love this!

This is such poor quality for a salon product at this price.  I used this for a while in conjunction with the matching colour protect shampoo, and my hair honestly never looked worse.  My hair always felt limp, dull, tangled, brittle, was difficult to style, and just looked plain awful.  Normally my hair is shiny and pretty healthy no matter what shampoo/conditioner I use, but not with this.  The shampoo does not clean hair properly (that or it coats it in some kind of wax) and the conditioner does not do what a conditioner should at ALL!  My roots were always greasy and my ends were always dry.  There was no moisture, no shine, no breakage prevention, nothing at all to recommend this.  I have used $5 conditioners from the drugstore that worked 100x better than this.  Not worth it - what's the point of keeping your colour fresh if your hair looks terrible?  I've used styling products from Paul Mitchell before with good results, but the colour protection shampoo and conditioner are both a big flop for me.

I just discovered this recently when I got a rollerball sample from Sephora.  It is now one of my favourite, if not my favourite, scent.  It's extremely unique, it doesn't smell like any other perfume I can think of.  I'm not terribly good at describing fragrances, but it is a rich, sweet, lightly spiced scent that is strong and lasts a good amount of time.  It's got a bit of musk to it but also something bright too, almost like a hint of floral ginger but not so tangy. Hard to describe, but definitely intoxicating! Some perfumes I find a little overpowering after I've been smelling them on myself for a while, but this one just makes me want to smell myself non-stop lol!  Beautiful fragrance and I will definitely buy the full size.  I could see this replacing Marc Jacobs "Daisy Dream" as my signature scent.

This is a really nice hair serum/oil. It adds softness shine and manageability for sure. A little goes a long way as well. The only complaint I have is the scent. So many Dove products, at least to me, have really unappealing scents. This to me smells just like baby powder. There's something really unpleasant and heavy about the scent and it covers up the scent of the shampoo I use which I like a lot better. Wish they would get their fragrance up to par with brands like Herbal Essences!

I like Live Clean shampoos and other products but I'm not a fan of this. It has a very odd texture - I was hoping it would be a cheap dupe for Moroccan Oil and have a light oil-like texture, but it doesn't, it's very odd. It's hard to describe, but when you spread it between your hands before you put it in your hair it starts to lather up like soap and feels sticky and strange. Was ok in my hair but didn't give me the results I hoped for and I didn't love the scent. Not a win for me.

I use this about once a week and I have noticed a big difference in my skin. I was already having great results using BHA exfoliants and retinol, but the Clarisonic Mia 2 takes it to the next level. It helps combat roughness, dullness, and especially for me, clogged pores. I really like that it has two different speed/intensity options, too. Whenever I use this my skin feels so soft and I feel like my skin just drinks in the products I put on afterwards. Definitely a staple in my skin care routine!

I really wanted to love this shampoo because I LOVEEEE the scent. It is probably the best-smelling Dove product ever. The shampoo lathers nicely and is fun to use. I used it with the matching conditioner and it definitely helped adding volume to my fine hair. However, after a while of using it, I started noticing flaking at my scalp which is not normal for me at all. I don't know if it was caused by dryness or by whatever ingredient is meant to bind to the hair to create volume, but either way it was not a good look. I also noticed that my ends were getting drier and drier. I think this is definitely a good shampoo for some people, but for me it wasn't really a moisturizing shampoo even though the name says so. Wish I loved it more because the scent is wonderful!!!

I am a big fan of matte liquid lipsticks, and I have used them from most major brands.  This was by far my least favourite.  I have the Colourpop liquid lipstick in a dark purplish-red colour (forget the name).  The pros: the colour is absolutely gorgeous.  I love the colour.  It's very liquidy as well so somewhat easy to smooth on.  it looks beautiful for the first little while you wear it.The cons: Firstly, this is MAJORLY DRYING.  I pretty much only wear matte lipsticks so I expect a bit of dryness and always use lip balm underneath, but holy cow, this feels tight and starts feeling like my lips are cracking very soon after application.  It also (at least in this very dark colour) has very inconsistent and patchy application, and the more you put on to try to fix the problem, the worse it starts to look.  Finally, it just does not have the staying power other brands do, even other inexpensive brands.  It transfers to EVERYTHING in a way I expect only to see with gloss and smudges and bleeds easily (again, this may be more obvious because I have it in an extremely dark colour.)  For example, the first time I wore this, I was joking around with my fiance and kissing him all over his cheeks in a somewhat dark room.  When we went into a light room, we noticed his face was badly stained purple and he had a hard time getting it off, even scrubbing with a washcloth (strange, it transfers so easily but also stains like crazy).  Bottom line - gorgeous colour and I like the way it looks if I get the application perfect, but I only wear it out for short periods of time if I know I won't be eating, talking much, touching my face, etc.  I often use it to take a quick selfie, for example.  I guess it's a "you get what you pay for" kind of thing (altohugh I've tried lots of fantastic inexpensive makeup.)  To be honest I'm actually shocked to see so many good reviews for this product, and it makes me wonder if I got a bad batch or something.

I got this as a gift and it was the first liquid lipstick I had used in ages.  I’d used some kind of ‘meh’ ones before so was wary, but once I used it I was so impressed!  The formula is easy to apply and smooth, the colour is consistent (I have one of the L*lita shades - Influenster won’t let me post the full word) and it is not drying.  It also lasts surprisingly well, even through eating (although it’s a fairly nude colour so maybe it’s not as obvious when it rubs off.)  I really really enjoy this formula and will definitely be buying more colours - maybe when I get some Sephora giftcards, because they are pricey!

I'm definitely a sucker for marketing, packaging, and trying the newest thing even when I have good options at home.  That's how I ended up buying this.  I liked the look of it and liked that it claimed to help with hair fall at a time when my hair seemed to be thinning.  All in all it's ok, it's fine as an every day conditioner but did not give me the results I'd expect to see from a hair mask or deep conditioning treatment.  No significant smoothing, softening, or detangling.  Did not do anything significant for breakage or hair fall and, worst of all, I HATED the fragrance.  I can't really describe it but I just found it really unpleasant.  Even just putting this in my hair then smelling it throughout the day made my head hurt.  Not a fan and wouldn't buy again when I've tried cheaper options with better results.
