PREACH!
this whole debate over Cinder’s actions is really showing who was either abused and gets Cinder/sides with the victim and who was the Lawful Good/sides with the bystander

kept rambling in the tags and I don’t feel like retyping it so I’m just going to continue from there over here:
all of those different types of abuse are still abuse. It was clearly a high stress situation and they were clearly going to punish her for something she owned (which could be used against them). Weapons are an extension of the soul, they were going to take away a newfound piece of her, something that was going to lead her to freedom, and they were going to punish her for it.
And clearly by her thinking about committing violence in the past, she was shown to be angry and react violently/be violently defensive before (her fire hand, her lashing out at Rhodes the first time they met, her stealing the first sword in the first place, etc.) Rhodes merely escalated that violent reaction by teaching her how to fight and defend herself in the first place and then expecting her to not use it until she was “old enough”.
A child can’t take that much abuse. Even if they don’t react, it DOES affect them and how they grow up and it WILL have lasting consequences.
Murder not good, yes. Cinder should not have reacted that way. But it was inevitable that she did, because that’s the only outlet she’s even learned, and that is the only thing she has been taught all her life. Don’t blame an abused kid for snapping and defending themselves against their abuser and bullies. And don’t get mad at Cinder for being clearly unstable when she never had therapy or any sort of healthier outlet that didn’t involve violence. Girl looked at Rhodes with an unstable expression that clearly expressed she wanted support from him. Not giving her that support & then attacking her = definite betrayal at that point in her mind.
Do I think she should’ve murdered? Honestly, yes. She was completely justified for doing that. She didn’t have any other way that was shown to her of dealing with the situation. And she needed to do something horrible in return in her past to show that she was irredeemable in the present. It’s a great way of portraying a villain as sympathetic while confirming the path they started down and how they’ve become irredeemable in the present. If she hadn’t killed them they would’ve made her life worse, and who knows what would’ve happened once the stepmother thought her own life was in danger and could actually do something about it. The stepsisters didn’t support Cinder, and made life worse for her, so in Cinder’s eyes they are part of the problem too. They probably went with their mother to bully her as she was being physically punished.
So again, yeah it’s absolutely messed up that she did that. But she’s a villain for a reason, and CRWBY set up her character’s past and behavior well to explain it while still making it clear that it was not a good thing she did that.

Had a dream that McDonald’s had a big ad campaign that just said “WE HAVE IT” in black cryptic writing. So I went to a drive thru and said “I saw the sign. Can I have it” and the speaker was silent for a solid ten seconds before saying “do you think you’re ready” in my voice and I screamed and drove away
