I've been slow about my own creations lately, with my main computer still out of commission, but I want to share this over here!

This story (A Gift by Starlight) is awesome, and I definitely recommend it! Note the wooden stake in Naru's hand ✨

My main computer is still broken, and I've been tired with house repairs, but I woke up in the middle of the night and drew this doodle on my laptop for Transgender Day of Visibility + Easter. 🏳️‍⚧️🐰✨ Sorry I couldn't draw a better one in time- this isn't replacing my regular style, I just need some time to get my main computer fixed and set up, hopefully in April.

Thanks to @kunzoi-archive for helping me find these! I knew the Shitennou chibis existed, but that site has many more season 1 characters:

My main desktop computer is broken, and I'm having trouble getting Blender to work on my laptop, so it may be a bit longer before I get more artwork done. I am still working on my story, and working on writing notes, so hopefully I can still get something done! In the meanwhile I wanted to share these here.

I drew this tonight in memory of Akira Toriyama.

As a child in the US, we had Dragon Warrior 1 and 2 on NES (Dragon Quest 1 and2), so they've always been very important to me. When I was a child, I sometimes imagined being the Princess of Moonbrooke. 🐕

I like to imagine Naru, being a kid in the 80s and a teenager in the 90s, might've grown up with a Famicom (or "Fami Fami" as they call it in Codename Sailor V) and played DQ2 too.

Set long after the 1992 anime series in the Crystal Tokyo era, the revived Nephrite (age 25) has joined in a polyamorous relationship with Osaka Naru (age 20) and her other boyfriend Umino Gurio (age 20). What if Nephrite was reborn after he died, but had to grow up again from infancy, and now Naru is older... but they meet again much later in her life...? (Partial inspiration: "Third Life" by Yagi on Ao3, a KunZoi story. A friend asked what it would look like if Naru were possessed (like in episode 22) but wearing her gym outfit (from episode 4), so I obliged with this random art. Not sure where it would fit into a story but it's amusing so I figured why not XD It's also an excuse to practice how to draw her possessed face/lighting, since I do have more plans for that in the main story...

Vision of The Great Shadow Youma

Late submission for @smvillainsweek 2023 Day 3, theme: Prophecy. This piece is also (loosely) inspired by the "Our Super Weapon R" fan manga from 2003, by Senhi Shinban and Kazuyuki Tsukine, though I've reworked the ideas to fit my own story: "The peace talks between the Golden Kingdom of Earth and the Silver Millennium Kingdom of the Moon were finally going well. The people of Earth would take more convincing, but Queen Calyce and Queen Serenity were already good friends, and agreed on a plan to establish nine "Crystal Points" within the Golden Kingdom, giving the Earth's people the same longevity enjoyed by those living on the Moon. Prince Endymion and his four Heavenly Knights were busy keeping the peace, fending off a series of energy-draining attacks (perpetrated by servants of a mysterious Dark Pact: the dark "Princess" Osakaite, and her minion, Ullmannite the spy). In the meanwhile, the prince sent his trusted assistants, the Seven Warriors of Fortune, to meet with the four guardian soldiers of the Moon Princess to help plan the Crystal Points. The shy young Warrior Bunbo and the kind genius Sailor Mercury got along quite well- but when Bunbo finally worked up his courage to shake her hand, he had a terrible vision- and the dreadful feeling that it was already too late...!" The day 4 piece goes with this one, and includes an explanation of the manga "Our Super Weapon R" (which has a different telling of the Seven Great Youma's adventures during the corruption of the Earth Kingdom):

Late submission for Day 6 of @smvillainsweek 2023, Theme: Weapon / Shield. Based on a scene from chapter 6 of "A Gift by Starlight" by Mina Martin, a story tagged "Naru the Vampire Slayer" 🩸✨ The story absolutely lives up to that premise and is cool as hell. This gritty hospital fight scene captured my imagination and I wanted to see it from the moment I read it. If you aren't familiar with Buffy the Vampire Slayer (I'm not very), the story still mostly makes sense and fills you in on what you need to know- I absolutely recommend it to any Neph/Naru fans!! One of the very best.

Binah and Bakene (Yumeno Yumemi and Rhett Butler)

Late submission for Day 4 of @smvillainsweek 2023, theme: "Origin / Reincarnation". This is the past life of Yumemi Yumeno and Rhett Butler- two of the Seven Great Youma-, before the Golden Kingdom had fully become the Dark Kingdom and before the invasion of the moon. This piece is directly Inspired by the "Our Super Weapon R" doujinshi / fan manga from 2003, by Senhi Shinban and Kazuyuki Tsukine. It was a completed 3 volume doujinshi (which is SFW, and involves all seven Great Youma (especially Ryo Urawa / Bunbo), as well as Naru, Thetis, the Shitennou, the Makaiju aliens, and other characters). Our Super Weapon R has never been fully translated, but raw Japanese scans can be found on MissDream (as well as volume 2 and volume 3). This year marks the 20th anniversary of this cool doujinshi! Here's their original artwork for comparison:

I'd love to see a full translation of this doujinshi, since I've been trying to read it with Google translate and can only get a rough idea of the story. It seems like a kindred spirit to some of my own ideas, and an inspiration I'd like to be able to reference in my own project! First though, I still want to make more pieces for Villains week. I have ideas for all 7 days but I only have day 6's piece started yet- hopefully I can go back and do my other ideas over the course of October? We'll see.
