Ghost of the Robot
James Marsters' band Ghost of the Robot has been a fantastic muse for me today.
They have have put me in such a good mood that I am not dreading working for the next 5 days.
Their songs are simple and to the point and I love that. I love it because if we were all more straight and to the point with each other we could solve a lot of problems before they happen.
And don't get me wrong, saying they are simple and to the point doesn't mean I feel like anyone could write them. I mean it as a compliment in that we can all learn something from being so straightforward.
I've had a difficult time lately and being straightforward is something I have been encouraged to do.
So straightforward, Ghost of the Robot is awesome and James Marsters is stupid talented.

Yo.....fucking....this. All of this.
TLJ and failure
Failure is the predominant theme in The Last Jedi, the more I think about it. Which is super awesome.
Right from the beginning, we see this idea of failure in Poe defeating the Dreadnought and thinking that was a victory, but Leia shakes her head - she’s counting lives lost and to her, it’s not worth it. (Note: Poe doesn’t learn from this.)
Rey goes to find Luke and she tells him that Kylo is completely lost, and that Kylo failed Luke, but she won’t. Later, Luke tells her that he’s the one who failed Kylo.
Finn and Rose first fail to contact the man they think is the master codebreaker, and then when they do get into the First Order ship, they fail to shut down the tracker (a collapse of Poe’s plan, which he thought was way better than whatever Holdo had planned).
Then Rey goes to save Kylo, falling for a trap and ultimately having to leave him behind.
Luke and Yoda talk extensively (and wisely) about how failure is the greatest teacher, and how the hope is that their students would grow past them and be greater than they ever were.
Kylo fails to do what he “should” to go the Dark Side, and then he fails to make the wise decision and let go of the past.
Holdo sacrifices herself for the Resistance, and her death is ultimately a victory for the Resistance.
Kylo insists that the best way for he and Rey to respond to the failure of their parents is to leave everyone behind (and for her to abandon her friends).
On Crait, Poe launches an attack on the First Order, trying to save them, but when the attack is going downhill, he calls it off to save lives, even though he hates to retreat.
Finn tries to sacrifice himself to stop the attack, but Rose stops him because this one little victory isn’t worth his life. “We don’t win by defeating those we hate, but by saving those we won.”
Kylo looks up in regret as Rey leaves, even though he supposedly has everything he ever wanted.
I mean guys, this movie explores the idea of failure and defeat and what constitutes victory SO MUCH. And half of the fandom has missed it because they’re so busy complaining about how Poe, Finn, and Rose’s arcs were meaningless because of mistakes and failure.
The whole point of the movie is really that concept of learning from and rising above failure. Poe learns from his mistakes to become an amazing leader. Luke accepts that even though he failed Kylo and Leia and Han and everyone, he can still save them and still teach them something. Finn learns that there are better ways to fight than with anger on his mind. Rey learns that just because her parents left her behind doesn’t make her nothing. Kylo is probably discovering that everything he thought he wanted is emptier than he expected.
TL;DR: This movie is all about how people respond to losing and what constitutes victory. Everyone in this movie makes mistakes, and it’s how they respond to them that makes their arcs amazing.

This is a thought I have had since I saw The Force Awakens. What would be the point of her continued practice with both staff and saber if she isn't going to have a double-bladed saber?!?!
Rey better have her own lightsaber next film and it better be double bladed she doesn’t have those staff skills for nothing

I fell in love with Rey after my first viewing of The Force Awakens. Two years later and she is still my absolute favourite Star Wars character. I will never get tired of any of her scenes.
