"How is she?"
Seokjin is tempted not to answer the question directed at him. So much has happened today, and his nerves are shot from everything that had transpired. If only he listened to his common sense, if only he fought for you. If only, if only.
"Hyung—"
He pulls his wrist away from Hoseok's grasp, ignoring the hurt painted in the younger's eyes when he does so.
"Why don't you go see her and find out for yourself?"
"I don't think—"
"Don't think what, Hoseok? That she's worth fighting for? That this shit's been dragging for too long and that maybe, just maybe, she deserves better than what we're doing to her."
Hoseok hangs his head in shame.
"I stand by what I said. This is no time to be neutral about it. You and Jimin, what did she ever do to the two of you to let the others get their way?"
Seokjin sighs heavily.
"She never asked anything from us, she did things for us that we didn't even know about without shoving it in our faces. She never even asked us to love her, but we do. I do, Hoseok. I love her, no matter how much you all beg me not to."
Seokjin tilts Hoseok's face tenderly.
"I do love her, Hobi. Don't you, too?"
Hoseok knows to himself that he does.
Seokjin is wrong. Hoseok's never really been neutral at all. Stoic about it, yes; he didn't want to break apart the group, after all. But in his heart, he slowly but surely fell in love with you. There's nothing neutral about it, he just learned how to be quiet about it.
In the times he sees you (without you seeing him), he sees your kindness shine. In your industry and this cutthroat world, you never let those old money sons of bitches trample on you, but he has yet to see you be as callous and evil even towards those who deserve it.
He remembers seeing you almost cry in indignance when a project went wrong and threatened employment displacement for those who are not at fault, even when they're not your employees. He had been watching and listening in secret from afar, but he could see how you wanted to burn your office to the ground when you knew that taking an important and needed step would mean that hundreds of families might potentially lose stable income.
He had seen you go undercover in the middle of the night so you could almost buy out an entire convenience store, just so you could feed the homeless one cold night.
He had seen you adopt your (now nth) cat Nori because you had seen it lost and without its mother on the sidewalk.
He had seen you love them from afar and mask it when they're around, even when it hurts him to watch too because that's all he can do when his hands are tied and he's had to keep it to himself or risk hurting their group.
He's seen you love them unconditionally, but not beg an ounce of it back because that's how love should be.
He loves you for your kindness, and everything in between.
"It's okay to love her too," Seokjin says in his silence. "It's the right thing to do, Hobi. We don't have to get scared anymore, not when she would go to lengths to give us what she thinks we want.
"But I don't want that." Seokjin drops his hand, sniffing lightly. "I don't want to lose her, not before I can even love her properly. I never wanted that."
"I don't want that, too, but the others—"
"Will come around eventually on their own. It's not our responsibility to do it for them." Seokjin says.
"And if they don't?" Hoseok asks, eyes wide with questions.
Seokjin sighs. "Then we can do nothing for them. It'll be a regret they will have to carry for the rest of their lives."
---
Talking to Jimin went a whole lot easier than expected. He was neutral about the whole thing, but it didn't take long for Seokjin and Hoseok to convince him.
"Hey," Seokjin says in lieu of greeting as Jimin sits on the balcony of his suite. "Can we talk?"
"If this is about what I think it is, I'd rather—"
"Please, Chim." Hoseok is the one who speaks this time. "Hear us out first."
"But the group, hyung." Jimin shakes his head. "I can't risk losing anyone of you."
"On what, the expense of someone else's life? She nearly died, Jimin." He ignores the gasps from both Jimin and Hoseok's lips. "She nearly died."
"What?" Hoseok speaks again. "You never told me this."
Seokjin sighs, his eyes shutting in pain as his mind flashes back to your prone figure lying on the hospital bed. "Yeah," he croaks. "She had to undergo surgery due to some heart damage, and she's in a coma right now."
"Coma?!" Hoseok and Jimin shout in unison. "What do you mean 'coma'?" Jimin stutters.
"She has to recover, so they put her there to help her heal..." Seokjin trails off.
When Seokjin doesn't continue, Hoseok asks, "But?"
"She's still in critical condition. They're not sure if she'll wake up."
"When she'll wake up," Hoseok tries to correct, but Seokjin shakes his head.
"If, Hobi. She had been so sick that she nearly died."
Silence befalls the three of them.
"How's Jungkook?" Jimin eventually asks, to which Seokjin shakes his head gloomily.
"He didn't take it too well. He got into a fight with Jackson."
"That asshole, again?!" Jimin bursts out but Seokjin stops him.
"As much as it pains me to say this, he has more rights to be there than we frankly do. Maybe legally as much, too."
"What?" Hoseok asks. "What do you mean by that?"
"I can't go into technicalities right now. My brain's too fried." Seokjin rubs his aching temples. "But when we left her, Jackson was there for her. She trusts him with everything, and I can't blame her."
"So we can't go see her?" Hoseok whimpers.
"We can." The other two sigh in relief. "But we can't touch her."
"Fuck that, I don't care if I have to put my fist against Jackson's fa—"
"It's not that." Seokjin shakes his head for the nth time that night. "We'll burn her skin. It's a side effect of her treatment."
Jimin can't even describe the emptiness he's feeling right now. When it comes to you, he has always chosen not to get too involved, not when he thinks it can tear their group apart. He doesn't want that, so better be safe than sorry.
Right now, however, he thinks that what was supposed to be safe turned out to be the biggest sorry.
"I'm sorry," Jimin whispers. "It wouldn't be like this had I not been detached from this."
Hoseok shakes his head. "We're all at fault here, remember? We all agreed to this, so there's no sense taking that burden by yourself." But even he feels the same way, the regret heavy in his gut.
"So what do we do now?" They both turn to Seokjin. "We're not banned from seeing her, are we?" Hoseok asks.
"No," Seokjin says firmly. "It would take more than that to ban us by law. We're still her soulmates, after all."
"Can we go visit her?" Jimin asks.
"Not right now, Chim." Seokjin smiles sadly. "We all had a long day, and we still have a lot of things to talk about, so I suggest we take some rest. Okay?"
Hoseok and Jimin look ready to disagree, but both sigh in defeat. Unbeknownst to them, Taehyung is listening in to the whole conversation. When he hears the suggestion to take some rest, he quickly but silently exits out of the room.
---
They all slept fitfully that night. Every time Seokjin tries to close his eyes, all he sees is your figure lying helplessly on your hospital bed. When his body eventually gives in to exhaustion, he dreams of losing you over and over again.
It was horrendous.
He wakes up to a weight on his chest, figuratively and literally.
Jungkook has his arm slung over Seokjin's waist, head tucked between his shoulder and neck. He's sniffling, clearly crying.
"Come 'ere." Seokjin wraps his arm around Jungkook's shoulder. "It's gonna be okay."
"We don't know that," Jungkook sniffs.
"It will be." Seokjin squeezes his arm gently. "We're not yet done making it up to her, so it will be. We haven't even started yet, so we can't lose hope. Not right now, not when she needs us."
"I just want her to be okay," Jungkook sobs.
"And I do, too. But all we can do right now is fight for her." He kisses Jungkook's hair, petting it gently to calm him down. "We can't afford to lose hope if we need to fight for her. Okay?"
Jungkook nods.
"We can visit her again soon. You and me, and Jimin and Hobi."
Jungkook pulls away slightly. "They will?"
Seokjin nods, and Jungkook puts his head back on his chest. "I talked to them last night. It was pretty easy to convince them."
If only it is easy to convince all of them, the thought hangs heavy in the air.
"Hyung?" Jungkook asks after a while. Seokjin just hums. "Do you ever think of what could have been if we didn't turn her away?"
"All the time," Seokjin admits. "I try not to because it's painful, but I always do.
"She's not hard to love." Seokjin swallows the pain in his throat, willing himself not to cry. "She's lovely and kind, and she never once asked us to love her back. That's what stands out the most for me because that love is unconditional."
A tear finally falls from his eye.
"I cannot imagine what pain she went through at all, and I still can't bring myself to because if I do, it'll be the end for me." He shakes his head. "She nearly died because of love—it was supposed to be the other way around. It was supposed to breathe life into you."
"Hyung..." Jungkook whimpers.
"I'm sorry," Seokjin says as he wipes the tears from his eyes. He doesn't know if he's saying sorry for crying, or for the things he failed to do for you.
"I feel like I don't deserve to cry because I failed her."
"That's not true, hyung. You didn't fail her. We'll still fight for her, won't we? That's not failing her."
Seokjin doesn't answer.
"I love you, hyung."
He hugs Jungkook tighter. "I love you too, Kook-ah."
---
The first thing that Seokjin does in the morning is to call Sejin, which was apparently expected of him because Sejin didn't even bat an eyelash, just agreed to come over and talk.
"Hear me out first, please," Seokjin says first thing when he arrives.
Sejin stares him down before sighing in defeat. "I already know where this is heading, Seokjin. I've seen you grow up and I know you better than yourselves sometimes."
"I know, Sejin-nim. But I can't, for the life of me, not try to make things right."
Sejin shakes his head. "You've fucked around, and all of you found out. This is what this is. I can't undo this for you this time."
"I'm not asking you to undo it, Sejin-nim. I'm just asking for your help. We just want to see her as much as we can."
Sejin's expression is pinched.
"She specifically asked not to let you interact with her unless it's for work. My hands are tied."
Seokjin shakes his head, desperation bleeding from his tired eyes. "What she doesn't know won't hurt her. We'll be out of there before she even wakes up."
"I—"
"Please, Sejin-nim. She doesn't even need to know."
Sejin takes a moment to respond. He takes a look at the kid he helped raise, at the tired slope of his shoulders and the despair in his eyes.
"Okay." However, before Seokjin can even react, Sejin raises his hand, "But, I have to warn you not to do stupid shit like picking fights with Jackson, as tempting as that sounds. His camp warned us last night."
"We're her soulmates," Seokjin says.
"But Jackson is made next of kin, and he can have you hauled out of the room if he wants to. He just chooses not to for [Name]. So please, be the sensible one."
Seokjin sighs in relief and nods. "Thank you, Sejin-nim."
"Are you taking Jungkook with you?" Sejin asks.
"And Hoseok and Jimin," Seokjin lists. "I'll have them behave, I promise."
Sejin's eyebrows raise at that. "You talked to them?"
Seokjin nods. "Last night. It was pretty easy considering they're both neutral about everything."
"How about the others?"
A shake of the head. "I haven't talked to them," Seokjin says softly. "I can't face them just yet."
Sejin just looks at him and nods. "I understand."
"Can you please ensure that Jackson's not there every time we visit her?"
Sejin nods. "That's easy, but I can't promise that every time. Jackson can only stay or visit for a few days because of his world tour. He's also gearing up for his new album, I think. I'll have to check that out."
Seokjin only nods. He'll take what he can have with you, and he's not about to look a gift horse in the mouth.
"I also need to talk to her soul therapist," Seokjin says. "I have to know if there is something we can do to help her heal faster."
Sejin narrows his eyes.
"Is that really all, Seokjin?" When Seokjin opens his mouth to refute him, Sejin shakes his head at him. "I just said I know you better than yourself sometimes. This is one of those times."
Fuck.
How can he tell Sejin that he wants to be able to love you wholly and alive without the therapy present? He knows he can't do it with you undergoing the soul-scraping therapy, so he can only think of one way to do it.
"I... I want to know if there is any way her therapy treatments can be stopped." Seokjin swallows. "I can't let her suffer any longer than she already had. I want it to stop."
Sejin tsks. "You do realize that it can't be stopped like that, can it? It cannot be reversed like that. She's under research, for heaven's sake!"
"We don't know that!" Seokjin exclaims. "Maybe it can be stopped, and she can heal slowly. Treatments are being stopped when not working all the time!"
"It is working, and it is not your decision to make, Seokjin!" Sejin's temper flares. "It's not your call to make, not your decision or say, and not your signature on the damn dotted line. Regardless if you're her soulmate, I won't let you do that to her because that's breaking her trust."
"Letting her die is breaking her trust?!"
"Think twice before you say anything further if I were you, Seokjin." Sejin shakes his head in disbelief. "Who put her there in the first place, me? I was merely a messenger."
And he's right, isn't he? It's not Sejin's fault after all. Sejin puts his hands on Seokjin's shoulders gently.
"I understand and want your happiness too, Seokjin. But it's not our call to make." Sejin pauses. "What if this is what she's happy with? Would you take this from her just to make yourself happy?"
"B—but she's dying!" Seokjin sputters. "I don't care about my happiness at this point. I'd rather she hate me alive than see her die."
"It'll be up to the doctors to do their job, and we have to trust them, okay? She'll be okay. She's a fighter, she'd get through this alive."
Seokjin can only nod in defeat.
"I can set up an appointment with Dr. Im, but that's all I can do. I doubt he'll let you stop the treatments, and that's all we can do at this point."
"Okay, Sejin-nim." Seokjin smiles weakly at him. "Thank you."
"Now go get some more rest. God knows you need it."
---
"Jackson's going to be there, so please no picking fights." When none of the four men in the car answers, Sejin continues. "I'm looking at you, Jungkook."
"Yes, Sejin-nim."
"For her sake, let's keep it civil. I've talked to his camp, and they promised to keep him in check, but regardless if he picks a fight, don't be baited."
"Yes, Sejin-nim," they all repeat.
It had been a week since they last saw you. They've been trying to visit more frequently, but they still have appearances and commitments they need to fulfill. It's hard, playing pretend like everything is fine, especially with the other three, but they have no choice or everything will fall apart.
Sejin had been giving the same pep talk every time their visit overlapped with Jackson's. No matter how it grates them, what with Jackson's side comments, they have to endure it. Anything just to see you.
The first visit almost didn't go well. Jackson had been there and it had been bearable, yes, but Hoseok and Jimin didn't expect what they would find when they arrived.
Their reactions were similar if not the same as how Jungkook and Seokjin reacted the first time they saw you. They did this to you, how can they possibly make it up to you in this state?
"Now you know what you did," Jackson says, "you can leave her alone and never come back."
But the boys are anything but weak-willed.
They had been visiting as much as they could, much to Jackson's anger. Not that he can do anything about it. Being next of kin can only give him so much power over them being your soulmates.
"Here again?" Jackson sneers once they reach your room. "You're not needed here, and you're not welcome here either, so why don't you all just leave?"
Seokjin's jaw ticks but he says nothing, just sits on the comfy sofa of your presidential suite. Hoseok silently replaces the flowers in the vase with the ones he brought just for you. Sunflowers, he knows you like them and it suits you just as well.
"Jackson," his manager says. "You're needed for the shoot in an hour. We need to go."
Jackson huffs in annoyance and the four men can barely keep their glee off their faces.
"Fine. But we'll be back later, yes?"
His manager nods tiredly, apparently desperate to hurry him out of there.
Jackson stands by your bedside and caresses your hair softly before leaning down to kiss you on the forehead with a tender smile on his face. "I'll be back later, okay? Wait for me." You didn't respond, the machines around you beeping in your silence.
It takes all of Jungkook not to punch him in the face for the blatant display of affection, knowing the other men present can't do it with you.
Jackson leaves but not before sparing you a longing glance.
"I want to punch him in the face," Jungkook says once Jackson left. "I won't, but I want to."
"Please don't," Seokjin says tiredly. "Sejin-nim made us promise."
"And besides, his world tour will start in a few days, Kook-ah." Hoseok says, trying to cheer the youngest. "Just a few days, okay? You won't have to see his face for months after that."
Jungkook just smiles weakly, happy at the prospect of seeing you freely without that asshole hanging around like a pest.
It's then that Doctor Choi comes in.
"Ah, gentlemen. You're here again," he smiles at them. It will never stop stinging, the way the doctor always seems surprised seeing them every time they visit you. It's not for no reason, they know, but it will always hurt nonetheless. They all give their greetings and give way for the doctor to make his examination, Jimin giving out their gloves. Once Doctor Choi is done, he turns to face them.
"I would normally ask where the Next of Kin is but seeing as he's not present and you're her soulmates, it should be fine."
"Why, Doctor-nim? Is anything wrong with [Name]?" Jungkook asks anxiously.
The doctor smiles at them and shakes his head. "Not at all. In fact, I have some good news."
They all perk up at that.
"Miss [Last Name] has been responding well to the treatments so far, so we've decided to take her out of her coma."
Relief floods through the four other men in the room.
"Really?" Seokjin asks hopefully. "So she'll wake up soon?"
"Hopefully, yes. She should start waking up soon once we administer the drug to wake her up."
"Thank you so much, Doctor-nim." Hoseok smiles widely for the first time in what feels like ages.
"Mr. Kim, I believe you have an appointment with Doctor Im, yes?" Doctor Choi asks Seokjin.
"Yes, Doctor-nim. Is he in?"
"Yes, he is. He asked to let you know that he'll be speaking with you later."
"Thank you, Doctor-nim."
When Doctor Choi leaves, all three men turn to Seokjin.
"What was that about, hyung?" Jimin asks.
"Nothing you guys should worry about." When they stare at him skeptically, he sighs. "Seriously, it's nothing you should be worried about. I just want to ask some questions about [Name]'s treatments."
The other three thankfully decide to let it go.
They all fuss over you as much as they are allowed to but Jungkook is notably silent.
"Hey," Hoseok says quietly to Jungkook. "You alright?"
Jungkook smiles weakly. "Yeah."
Hoseok shakes his head. "You don't need to lie to hyung."
Jungkook looks at him and bites his lower lip. "It's just that once [Name] wakes up, we might not see her as much as we want to."
Hoseok falls silent at that. He honestly hadn't thought of it that way. Seokjin, having caught their conversation, shakes his head.
"No," he says firmly. "Don't think of it that way because we will find a way."
"But—"
"No 'buts'," Seokjin shakes his head. "We can't give up just yet, no matter what."
Seokjin's right, they can't give up just yet. If every setback will deter them, they will get nowhere in making it up to you.
Their silence is broken when Seokjin is called by Sejin for his appointment with Doctor Im. When he leaves, Jungkook asks the one question plaguing their mind.
"What do you think it is for?"
Jimin shrugs, completely at a loss himself. He had been noticing Seokjin being out of sorts these past few days, but he chalked it up to him worrying over [Name]'s health, as well as the group's well-being.
"I can't see any other reason other than him checking up on [Name]'s condition. It's not like he'll be signing up for the soul-scraping therapy himself, I know he won't." Hoseok says seriously. "We'll just have to trust him when he said it's nothing to worry about."
In a way, they are correct. As Seokjin sits across from Doctor Im in his office, he can't help but feel like he's betraying all of the trust given to him by the people he loves. You, and the rest of the group.
"So Mr. Kim," Doctor Im starts, "I heard from you Manager that you wish to speak to me about Miss [Last Name]. Is that correct?"
Seokjin fidgets in his seat. "Yes, Doctor Im."
Doctor Im levels him with a look, not dissimilar to Manager Sejin on that morning.
"I think I know where this is going, Mr. Kim. Is this about her therapy?"
Seokjin can only nod, feeling like a deer in the headlights. The Doctor sighs.
"If my guess is correct, you would want her to be pulled out, which I unfortunately cannot do. For one, she's in the middle of a worldwide research. And even if she's not, only she can consent to stop the treatments. Otherwise, it will be a breach of patient-doctor confidentiality."
"But will it be a breach if I'm acting on behalf of her as her soulmate?"
Doctor Im, instead of getting angry as he expected, only smiles.
"Unfortunately so, still. Part of the contract for soul-scraping patients states that unless they explicitly step down from the research, nobody can do it on their behalf.
Seokjin's heart drops to his stomach. Doctor Im just smiles softly.
"If you don't mind me overstepping, there was a bond rejection early on between you and Miss [Last Name], isn't there?"
Seokjin nods forlornly. "On our part, regretfully, yes."
"I see." Doctor Im hums. "That's interesting."
Seokjin says nothing.
"I'm afraid I cannot help you with this, Mr. Kim. Unless Miss [Last Name] steps down from the research, we are to continue with her in it. I hope you understand."
"But will it not be dangerous, especially after what happened to her?" Seokjin pauses. "I really don't know how to say this without being disrespectful because I know you're just doing your job, but maybe she can be made aware of what can happen if she continues with the therapy."
Again, instead of getting angry, Doctor Im just chuckles. Seokjin just looks at him like he's grown two heads.
"My apologies," Doctor Im waves him off. "It's just really interesting considering your history with her."
"I had no choice," Seokjin defends himself. "I sadly had no choice, and I didn't know what to do."
"Forgive me for being frank, but you always have a choice. But I do understand now where you're coming from.
"From a professional point of view, you'll be hindering my research and I would have to say no," Doctor Im pauses. "But I've seen enough cases like yours that end in regret and pain more than the freedom the patients thought they'd be getting. And Miss [Last Name], she's so young, way too young to be in this situation."
A terse pause.
"I cannot promise anything, Mr. Kim. I can only tell her what can happen if she wishes to continue with the treatments, but nothing else. Everything else is up to her."
And that is enough for Seokjin. He just hopes you'll stop altogether.
"Thank you, Doctor-nim."
Doctor Im nods with a gentle smile. "I'm aware Doctor Choi spoke to you earlier and told you that we'll administer the drug to wake Miss [Last Name] sometime this week, am I correct?"
"Yes."
"The effects might take some time to manifest, so don't be disappointed if she doesn't wake up right away. Okay?"
"Okay, Doctor-nim."
Seokjin rises from his seat just as Doctor Im rises from his as well.
"Thank you for taking the time to see me, Doctor Im."
Doctor Im nods kindly.
"No matter what happens, you will always have a choice. That's what I always tell my patients."
"Yes, Doctor-nim."
---
It has been three days since, and they're taking you out of your coma. The boys know you will not wake up right away, but they can't help but feel disappointed when you don't wake up once the drug has been administered.
"What matters right now is she'll be okay," Hoseok says. "She'll be okay."
"Yeah," Seokjin can only hope you'll change your mind about the treatments once you wake up. "She'll be okay."
---
Heavy.
Your body feels heavy the moment you wake up.
You try to speak, but the tubes in your throat prevent you from doing so. You try to lift your arms, but it feels like they're made of lead.
"She's awake! Hyung, she's awake!"
You can't decipher the rest of the words being spoken as you succumb back to the darkness, unaware of the chaos around you.
---
The second time you wake, your body feels a little lighter than before.
There's a mop of curls on your bed and a gloved hand wrapped around yours, the figure appearing to have fallen asleep.
Your eyes are bleary, and you can't see who it is.
"J...Jackson?"
You squeeze the hand around yours and they slowly rouse.
"Jackson...?"
The figure finally wakes.
"You're awake," the deep-voiced figure says. Had you not been drugged and still hazy, you would have noticed the awe in their voice and the emotions being spoken in those two words.
And that the figure is definitely not Jackson.
"You're here." You smile placidly. "You're here."
The figure nods, face obscured by the darkness of the room. Only the light of the lamp by the corner illuminates the otherwise dark room.
"I'm here."
"Not dead?" you ask.
The figure shakes their head.
"No. Thankfully not."
You nod, the last vestiges of your consciousness slowly slipping.
"Don't... don't leave."
Silence.
"Don't leave, m'kay?"
The figure nods again.
"I won't this time."
Satisfied, you fall back to sleep.

Take as much time as you need to, your health is much more important to me.
Also I love the way you write angst, it's raw, it's real, it makes me cry, I live for it, I live it.
And I don't really care about the non-linear narrative, different people have different writing styles, that is what makes reading different authors unique.
Btw, I love the non-linear narrative, it just feels right, idk how to describe it, but it feels like I have plunged into a pool of emotions.
And you my dear, are one of the people that i desperately wait on for updates and I will continue to do so (without pushing you or being rude ofc)

And yes! I want to be as realistic with this as possible because after everything in this universe that she went through, trauma can't be easily erased, if any.
Thank you so much once again and I hope I don't disappoint and please bear with me because my meds are fuckin me up lmao idek at this point but my favorite tumblr reader is here 😭😭😭

mixtape: all i have left to give - part 1 - part 2 - part 3 - ending 1
Oooooooohhhhweeeeeee
This is crazy
So much has happened since I last posted.
i got psychiatric help so guess who's on meds now? yay (not)
i mentioned here before that when I write the mixtape series, it's not necessarily in chronological order. I already have a rough draft in my mind of how it would go, and I am already planning to write the prequel to the first part, but it won't necessarily mean that it will come first. I also have an idea of what will happen for the ending(s?), but I have yet to muster the energy to write continuously right now bc so much has happened irl
With that being said, my next part will be a glimpse of one of the "what-if" endings. If it irks you that my writings are all over the place, I'm so sorry but I rly cant force my brain to write at one linear pace. As I always say, I hope I don't disappoint, and I'm so sorry if I do.
Thank you so much for loving my babies and for giving them the time of the day. Every time I get a notification of likes/reblogs/kudos/bookmarks, it warms my heart bc wtf it is more than I ever hoped for
thank you so much once again! this part is for those who are rooting for my babie jackjack because hey, he's a fuckin sweetheart and i love him to bits
just a little trigger warning for some insecurities because this is kinda self-projecting, i'm so sorry T_T
🌅
Soft morning light greets you when you open your eyes.
You've always relished in these times—the seconds or minutes of blank bliss and silence in between waking up and lucidity. These are times of peace before facing the storm of the day.
You stare at the ceiling of the room, the cream-colored walls, then the photos that line up your drawers.
So much has happened these past few months. Sometimes, you still can't believe that you've survived through it, that you powered through it. You genuinely thought it would end up killing you, and that you'd die hurting inside out.
But you lived, and you're happy now.
You turn your head to the side to find him, still slumbering. You take a deep breath and dig your fingers into your palm, afraid that this will all be a dream, and that you'll wake up with sweat on your forehead and blood on your lips and sheets.
You honestly would never have made it without him.
The one and only constant in your life, your ride-or-die.
Jackson.
He had been there through everything—the treatments, the hospitalizations, the relapses, and the recovery. He was there to see you fall apart at 3 a.m., see you struggle with breathing at random times of the day, there to see you bleed out from the love you had (have) for the other men who were supposed to love you back unconditionally.
He was there through everything, and he never once let go of your hand.
Sometimes, you think how it would be if you ended up with them; what would happen? Would you be happier? How would it be different from how it is right now?
But then, you think, they never loved you the way you wished to, the way they should've until you were on the brink of death. There would be too much resentment, too much guilt, too much pain. You would never be truly happy.
You feel guilty thinking about these things. You are genuinely happy— happier even—than you've ever been. Jackson never made you feel like you have to be someone else, like you have to live up to someone's high expectations. You never have to cry again, except when he goes on tour and you miss him, or when you're so happy with him that tears just can't help but make confetti in your eyes.
But then, you and Jackson both know that it is inevitable, that the love for the seven men who were once the center of your soul would never really go away. And he's okay with it, you're both okay with it. You've both made peace that they will always be a part of your life. All that matters is Jackson is your home now, that he's the one that you'll come home to. He's the one that you will make a space for in your heart, and the only one that will occupy it and stay for good.
Jackson is home, and he always will be.
You reach out and carefully brush Jackson's hair away from his still-closed eyes. Moments like this you miss the most when he's away on tour and you can't go with him. It gets lonely, but his coming home with the biggest and proudest smile on his face makes everything worth it.
He is worth it, and he always will be.
You scoot closer to his sleeping figure, wrapping your arm around his waist. Februaries are always cold, so his body warmth is heaven-sent. It is also one of the things you miss during times apart. You grew up in a non-affectionate household, touch-starved to the point that you became touch- repulsed. But after getting to know how Jackson feels like home, you can never get enough of his touch. You can never go for too long without it, and you can say you almost reverted to being touch-starved.
You shift to wrap yourself around him, slinging your leg lightly over his. You hear him groan as you bury your face in the crook of his neck, trying not to miss him already. You still have two weeks left before he leaves again for his next tour, but you can already feel the creeping sadness and pit in your stomach.
You're getting separation anxiety again. Maybe it's time to talk to your therapist.
Your fingers find themselves curled on his arms lightly, tracing shapes and absently doodling on his skin.
"You're up early," comes Jackson's sleep-laden voice, his arms wrapping around your shoulders.
"'m not up yet," you grumble, subtly inhaling the scent of his skin. "And it's already seven AM; not early."
Jackson chuckles. "Okay, okay. No need to get pouty."
You huff. "I'm not pouty," an irony as you can actually feel yourself pout more when he says that. "It's really just not early."
It is early, you actually know it. But you want to spend more time with him before he sets off to wow the whole world again while you stay behind and wait for him to come home, so no, it's not really early.
You feel him kiss your hair. "Ah. I'm still here, but you already miss me." He laughs lightly. "What would you do without me?"
You know it's a joke, but your abandonment issues have been seriously acting up for a while now. You have to swallow before answering.
"I'd die without you," you blink rapidly to stop yourself from crying, trying to keep your tone light. "Terribly, so."
"Hey," Jackson tries to push your shoulder gently to look at your face, but you don't want him to see your crumpled expression.
"Hey, don't cry. It's too early for you to cry." You sniff, not wanting to let go of him. "I'm joking. You can never get rid of me at this point."
"But you can get rid of me," you fail to not sound miserable. "You can find someone else and settle down with them, someone whole."
A pause.
"Someone not broken."
"No." This time, Jackson's tone is firm, almost angry. "I don't like you talking about yourself like this, and I won't get rid of you. Is that what you think of me?"
"No, but you—"
"'But I ' nothing '," he says. He sits you both up and he puts his hands on your shoulders. "I fought nail and tooth just so I can have my happy ending with you. I fought with the law, I fought your soulmates, and I will fight all over again just so I can have this until we grow old and wrinkly. Why would I get rid of someone I've wanted my whole life? That's fucking stupid."
Your lips curl in a slight pout, trembling with all the tears that want to escape. You absently touch your chest, used to the phantom pain that came with the soul-scraping before. It's gone now, but all the things you used to do, used to go through, as well as the painful memories are still here.
"I..." You start, voice hoarse. "Sorry, I just don't want a repeat of that, you know?"
"I know."
"And I know you're not like them, but there are so many reasons things don't work out. And not to be dramatic or what—erm—," you clear your throat, "but I won't survive the next time I go through that again." Not if everything goes into plan, that next step you are planning with him. "It'll kill me."
You won't survive another soul-scraping, you just won't.
"You won't. I won't leave, I promise." Jackson presses a tender kiss on your lips, running his thumb on your cheek as he cradles it gently. "As I said, we'll grow old and wrinkly. We'll be that meme on Facebook where we grow old together and play bump cars with wheelchairs."
You snort softly. "If you damage my rhetorical wheelchair, I'm using yours. You crawl on the ground."
He grins, a lovely sight on his pretty face. "I'll always crawl my way back to you," he croons.
Jackson leans in and captures your lips in a gentle kiss. His hand finds its way inside your top and you flinch unintentionally. He tenses, then pulls away.
"I'm sorry," you hurriedly say.
"Hey," he says, eyes searching your face. "No need to apologize. I'm sorry. We don't need to do anything you don't want to."
"No, no. I want to." You pause, biting your lip. "It's just... my scar." You absently trace your myectomy scar. He looks at you, willing you to go on. "It's ugly." Among all other things.
"You will never be ugly." You open your mouth to retort but he silences you with a serious look. "I love you, scars and all. But as I said, we don't have to do anything. I just want to spend my time with you, and I'm good."
God, you think, I really think I'll marry you.
You surge up with a fierce kiss to his lips, taking your top off before you can change your mind.
"Wait, wait." Jackson puts his hand on yours, stopping you from taking your shirt off. "No."
"No?" You swallow thickly.
"No, not like that," he says hurriedly, seeing your mood shift. "Is it a good day?"
You know what he means, and it is not.
"No," you agree in a small voice. "It isn't."
You've gotten far from your insecurities, but they sometimes come back sneakily, like they did yesterday and today, of all days.
"We can keep your shirt on if you'd like?" he offers.
You take one look at him. Yup, you'll definitely marry him.
"Please?" You implore with your eyes.
He smiles softly. "Then we keep your shirt on."
His smile turns wicked.
"Won't stop me from eating you out from under it, though."
---
"Mark!"
"No," Mark says flatly. "You're not backing out of this."
"But—"
"Do you love him?" he asks.
"Yes!"
"Do you want to marry his ugly face?"
"He's not ugly, but yes!"
"Do you want to spend your lifetime kissing his ugly face?"
"Again, my Jackson is not ugly, but yes, I do!"
"Did you change your mind then?"
"Y—no, I did not!"
"Then why are you backing out?!"
"Because what if he doesn't want to?" [Name] bursts out to which Mark snorts impatiently. "What if doesn't want that for life? That's a lifetime of commitment, Mark. I can't undo that shit."
"You think he would want to?" Mark asks, almost angry, his patience growing thin. He rolls his eyes to heaven when he sees you in near tears.
"He wants to marry your equally ugly face," to which you splutter a 'hey!', "he talks, breathes, and sleeps nothing but [Name], [Name], [Name]." He sighs.
"Do you really think he would let go of you now?"
You know at this point that your fear is redundant and irrational, but you can't help it. Not when your own (ex-)soulmates didn't want you. It took you almost dying, and choosing your dignity and self-respect before they turned around. And even then, it was too late. Your soul is having none of it.
Mark softens at your silence. "Did you talk to your therapist about this?"
You nod. "Yeah. He said that I should start forgiving myself and moving forward and that I should believe that not everyone is like them. Not everyone will leave me."
"He's right. We won't leave you. We're stuck with you, just like how you're stuck with us. Okay?"
"Okay."
"Okay, good. Now, give me my hug because I just got from a long tiring flight because someone didn't want me to ride her private jet." He glares at you.
You laugh. "I told you, I need to fly here earlier than you since you can't cancel your meeting."
"You could've—I don't know—waited for me, maybe?" He pulls you in a tight hug.
Before you two can pull away, however, you both hear the sounds of Jackson's voice and the door opening.
Oh, shit.
You two freeze on your hug. You don't understand why you did but you just feel guilty, like being caught with your hand down your pants. You and Mark pull away from each other quickly.
"What's this? Hugging without me, huh?" Jackson jokes, but you can hear the slight insinuation in his voice, one that Mark does as well.
"Yeah, I'm stealing your girlfriend, Wang. Watch out." Mark smirks lightheartedly.
This bitch!
Jackson's eyebrow twitches. "You wish." They embrace in a brief hug before he turns to you with a soft smile on his pretty face.
Wow. Years in and you still can't get your heart to shut up over his smile.
"Hey," he says softly. "This is a very nice surprise."
"I missed you and the bed was cold," you pout slightly. "So here I am."
"Ah, I knew it. You just want a bed warmer." In the background, you can hear Mark fake gag, and Jackson gives him the finger.
"No, I want my Jackson not an electric blankie, smartass."
"Your Jackson, huh?" Mark fake gags again, and you smile at Jackson's 'fuck off, Tuan'.
"This is not what I signed up for, so I'm leaving you lovebirds to it."
"About time." This time, it's Jackson who grumbles, and you and Mark both laugh. "Shut up."
---
The next few days of the tour see Jackson busier than ever, and so are you. With the tour coming to its end, you scramble to get the last steps of your surprise into place. After all, Jackson deserves the best, and you don't want to give him any less.
This also means that you both get to see less of each other. You miss him and it sucks, and Jackson sometimes gets to receive the burnt of it, unfortunately.
"Hey. It's okay, everything's going to be okay," he says. You are so close to bursting and just saying fuck it, but you can't, so you let out a frustrated growl.
"It is not, stop saying that again and again." It is not. The local producer and local venue producer are being tough nuts to crack for some unknown reason, and are uncooperative. They are the only remaining people you need in on the plan, so it is taking too much time and effort on your part. Not that Jackson is not worth it, but the headache is just a bitch to deal with. "It really isn't so I ask you to kindly fuck off, Jackson. I don't need you patronizing me right now."
"Hey," he says firmly, his jaw heavy set. "I'm not doing anything, so don't take your shit out on me."
Ah, shit.
"Jacks—"
"Is it because I'm taking much of your time?"
"What?"
"Is it because I'm taking your time away to be with Mark?"
Your jaw drops. "Excuse me?"
"You think I don't see how you spend your time with him? How close you two seem to be nowadays?"
Aw, hell no.
"Jackson, no. What the fuck?"
"No, no. It's okay. You don't need to explain, you know? If you want to be with Mark-hyung, it's fine. I'm not gonna stand in the way."
"What are you talking about? Are you saying I'm cheating on you?" you ask in disbelief.
Jackson shakes his head. "I'm saying that if you want to be with him, you don't need to start picking fights just so we can break up." His eyes turn sad. "I'll let you go, you just have to ask."
Your chest hurts at that, stirring up old feelings you thought you'd never be able to feel again. "And you're gonna let me go, just like that?"
Silence.
You laugh humorlessly. "Wow. And you think of me that way, too."
"[Name]—"
"No." You thank whatever fuck there is that you had the foresight to book a separate room to plan your surprise (not that you sleep in it, with you opting to always sleep beside Jackson since arriving) and take your bag from the chair by the window of the suite.
"Thank you for clearing that shit up. At least I know now where I stand."
Jackson grasps your wrist delicately. "Sweetheart—"
You pull your wrist away from him. "Don't 'sweetheart' me, Jackson." He stops at the sight of the brimming tears in your eyes, the hurt painted in it.
"I trusted you with shit, you knew how I abhor those things you accuse me of. You knew how I hated my mom because of the things she did, and yet you dared think I am like her."
"I didn't—"
"Yes, you did, Jackson. Because if you only knew how full I am of you since the day I let those bastards go from my life." You sniff. "It's only and always been you, you, and you. Everyone knew that; everyone knows that."
"I don't—"
"Yeah, you don't. So I'll spare you the time and just leave you be. I never plan to force myself into something or someone, and I don't plan to start now."
Jackson tries to refute that it isn't the case, but you slam the door shut in his face behind you before he can even get a word in.
[ah, these kids. what do i do with you two?]
Jackson looks at the door you just slammed shut in his face, then to the dresser in his suite that you never opened. You two had always been intertwined, but you always gave him his space and privacy. He walks towards it, opens it, and takes the velvet box with the sparkling ring in it.
All I can say is you two are idiots, and everyone will agree with me.
---
"You what?!"
You grumble, shielding your bottle away from Mark. "Please don't shout at me, I'm already having a hard time as it is." You try to pull off your pitiful face, but Mark only makes his own face at you.
To be fair, Mark finds you pitiful, but not in that way. And he kind of wants to punch Jackson in the face right now too because seriously, you and Mark? It's like him and his sisters, what the actual fuck?
He can't blame the man, however. Everyone in the circle knows how Jackson has been wounded by the relationships he was in before, so it's easier for him to switch to defense mode. Jackson has always been prone to leave before he gets left when he feels like the other party is slowly losing interest.
But the dumbass has always been prone to the dumbest dumbassery in the group. And this? This takes the cake, Mark could roll his eyes to heaven.
"And you didn't bother to, I don't know, explain shit to him?" he asks with the patience of a saint.
You pout. You had the audacity to pout and Mark feels the patience slowly slipping away from him. "No. It's not gonna be a surprise anymore if I do."
Holy fuck.
"Are you shitting my dick right now?" he mutters. You only snort and Mark pulls away the bottle from you.
"Hey!"
"Listen to me. It's not gonna be a surprise anymore if you two break up because there'll be no one to surprise. You know he is a dumbass and you decided to be a dumbass too?"
"Hey! He accused me first! I didn't accuse him anything when he shot that sexy ass shoot with the ashes and stuff—"
"—Cruel." Mark supplies helpfully.
"Yes, that. I didn't do that with the main dancer when they've been cute and friendly and shit off cam, and yet he accuses me with you." You belch and gag, and Mark steps away slightly from you to avoid any impending projectile vomiting. "Like 'ew'."
"I agree with you, but how dare you, bitch? Are you saying I'm 'ew'?"
You level him with a look as much as you can with your drunk face, and Mark has never had the urge to headlock a woman before.
"Anyway," you say forlornly, "at least I know where we stand now." You sniff, and Mark feels bad for you (a little).
"No, you really don't. I thought that by now, you would know how he is."
"You weren't there when he said it!" You burst out angrily. "He means it! Do you know how it feels standing there and being practically told that he knows I'll leave him for other people, and that he'll let me?" You burp loudly again. "Me, of all people? When he knew how I detest that shit. With all the things I went through?"
And then you burst into ugly sobs.
[ah, jackson. you really are one dumbass.]
"Hey, hey, no," Mark says, wrapping his arms around you. "Don't cry. You're not allowed to cry. Doctor Im told you you're still healing; you're not even allowed to drink."
"Yet here I am," you say with a shaky laugh that morphs into another sob. "Again."
You're not sure if you're just talking about drinking or the fact that you're on the brink of losing yourself again over lost relationships. It's tiring, really. But it is what it is, as they say.
"Can you—can you please get my bag?" you ask Mark. "By the door, tossed it earlier," you slur.
You've never really shown Mark the ring you want to propose to Jackson with. Mark assumed that it is flashy, and you're never one for flashy things, so you're embarrassed about it.
That's not it, however. Completely the opposite, actually. The engagement ring is totally simple, a silver band encrusted with small diamonds on top. The only flashy thing about it is the bigger diamond heart in the center and the smaller gems that surround it on both sides.
The smaller gems are the highlights, you think. You took them from the necklace with both the birthstones that were gifted by Jackson to you during your first year anniversary and had them cut delicately to fit the ring you had in mind. On the right heart side are your birthstones, while on the left are Jackson's. You know some might find it too feminine, and Jackson might not be able to wear it that much in his line of work, but the ring is the most beautiful thing you have ever created in your life.
And now, Jackson won't be able to see it. That thought brings you to a fresh round of tears.
"Too girly, isn't it?" You ask Mark, who is silent. "And it should be the other way around—he should be the one asking me to marry him. I still would've asked him to marry me with this, Mark. That's how I don't give a shit. I just wanna marry his ugly face, but now I can't."
"You wanna marry me?" Comes a soft voice behind you and Mark. You jerk away, and Mark gently unwraps his arms around you as Jackson steps forward.
"I'll let you lovebirds talk," Mark says as he pulls away, but your wide eyes (as wide as bloodshot eyes can be) are only trained on Jackson. Mark pats Jackson's shoulder with a low 'we'll talk later', and Jackson only nods. It is silent until Mark closes the door behind him.
"You wanna marry me?" Jackson asks again. "You're gonna ask to marry me, [Name]?"
You can only nod, your eyes shut as your tears don't stop falling.
"Stay here," he only says. It's not like you're going anywhere, so you stay put. However, when five minutes turn to fifteen, then to twenty, you start to think that Jackson has either gone to sleep or gone off to god knows where. Before you can even think about getting up and running after him, the door to your suite opens.
"Come here, stand up." Jackson takes your hand and helps you stand up. He wipes your face with his hand, then with the cold cloth that someone hands him (whom you recognize is one of his staff). Other staff start to fuss over you as someone turns on the overhead lights.
"Wait, what?" you ask as someone starts to powder your face. "What's happening?"
You turn to Jackson, who's being ushered into a suit. You are ushered yourself by the few staff he had roped into helping into the other room to change into a tulle sweetheart dress.
"We're getting married."
---
"So, Jackson..." You hear the host through the speakers start his next question as you wait backstage with Mark. Even with the elopement, you're still going through with your plan.
That other plan.
"No," Mark says flatly. "You're not backing out of this."
Here we go again, but this time, Mark is a little less pissed and more exhausted with your shenanigans.
"No, I'm just saying. Maybe I should do this in private instead? This is the equivalent of putting a girl on the spot with marriage proposals, which, for the record, I absolutely detest because fuck having choice and not cornering them into whatever they want, right?"
"While I do agree with you, he'll pee his pants and probably hump you if you do this than to be put off, trust me," Mark says. "And besides, everything is ready. All it needs is the execution."
Mark has a point.
Before you can wimp out again, you hear your name being called to an uproar of cheers. You're lucky Jackson's fanbase is mostly supportive of your relationship since you two came out a few years ago, though it is not without some minor hiccups and a few outrage from the unsupportive ones. What matters however is you lucked out, and you can never be more grateful.
"[Name] [Last Name], ladies and gentlemen!" You hear the host say as you see Jackson's blinding grin when you step out from the backstage.
Oh, you swoon. My smitten darling [Name].
Steady, girl.
"So, Miss [Last Name]—"
"It's Mrs. Wang, actually." You hear gasps from the audience, and Jackson's blinding grin turns lovelier and wider. "We actually got married in secret, and you forgot this at home." You hand him his ring as you grin mischievously.
"Okay, Peeta Mellark." Jackson rolls his eyes good-naturedly as he slips on his ring. "What a way to break it to them."
"My, my." The host fans himself with a wide smile. "Is this what you meant when you told me you'll be getting me a high rating?"
"I hope so," you say sheepishly. "If it doesn't, then no worries. I still have another trick in my hat. Don't you worry."
You look at Jackson and can't help but laugh inwardly at his clueless smile.
Oh, dear.
The interview goes without a hitch, with it mostly centered on your married life. You were originally nervous about how it would turn out, but it had been so far so good. Nobody threw shoes, and all that happened was a little 'booooo' when asked if you had had your honeymoon yet (which not yet, because you were both busy for a while after his tour).
"So, [Name]," the host asks again with a little waggle of his eyebrows. "What is this other trick of yours you mentioned earlier?"
Ah, shit. Here we go.
"Ah." Your smile turns a little serene, and you see Jackson sit up straighter in his seat. Nobody would notice it if they are not in tune with him, but he practically owns your whole soul, and you'd like to think that you do his, too, so you notice it.
"Have I told you my story about my soulmates?"
The host shakes his head. "Pray, do tell."
"Well, not everyone gets lucky with theirs. Everyone knows that." You smile sadly, the audience turning quiet.
"Yes, of course. A very sad fact that everyone is very well acquainted with." The host smiles sympathetically at you.
"I used to think it was the end of the world when mine didn't want anything to do with me. I kept thinking that something was wrong with me, that maybe I was really not worth their time. That maybe I was meant to suffer and die hurting."
You pause, then you look at Jackson. "But then I realize, I have you," you say softly.
You look back at the host.
"What more can I ask for when I have him?"
Your smile turns happier as the audience lets out a quiet 'aww'.
"I really like doing things unconventional and my way so..."
You bite your lower lip as you look once again at Jackson, who has his eyes trained on you and hanging on to every word you say.
"Would you give me the honor of being my forever soulmate, Jackson?"
It was like a time warp. The moment he said yes, cheers erupted, and everything blurred and warped in your ears. All your fears, all the hurt and pain? It was gone.
This is your happy ending, you deserve it, my dear [Name].
Go live it.
---
Meanwhile, somewhere a thousand miles away, a group of young men smile sadly at what could have been, and what was lost. Their chests perpetually ache with the loss of a piece of a soul they can never get back.

i really am desperate to find this #yoonmin fic i read a year or so ago where basically yoongi is the town pariah and outcast and jimin is his only friend (and the writing paints him as a sweetheart) that is everywhere with him and iirc they somehow live together until it was revealed in the end that the reason why yoongi is the pariah is bc of jimin
apparently jimin was supposed to be already dead (he slipped or fell from the top of the church iirc) and he somehow rose from the dead (not sure if yoongi has smth to do with it) and since everyone knows that jimin is supposed to be dead, they ignore him in fear and put the blame on yoongi instead
if anyone has read this fic and knows the title (or something similar), please let me know it's been months and it's on ao3 but i can't find it on my history so it might be deleted 😭😭😭

this is not my first dabble at the bts fandom but this was my first bangtan fic i posted in ao3 2 years ago bc i was a baby army (and my first bangtan creation [not the mixtape series] one is still unfinished and unposted wkwkwkw) so pls be kind to me uwu n i don't really have army moots so if you wanna, come say hi to me on twitter @shimaeara (i don't use it for now because i have no moots there yet) this fic is fucking self-serve and was written without sleep and came to me after reading a fucking drarry slowburn and binge listening to Moonchild and continued after weeks(months) of procrastination and am not good at smut so i might not be able to write it graphically for now idk sorry (edit, 2023: I can write smut now lmao but im still not good at it so i'll try!!!!) artists mentioned are not mine and own themselves. only my original character is self-made, and portrayal and descriptions are in no way real and did not happen in life. everything is entirely fictional not beta'd so i take full responsibility for each and every mistake, my existence included.
i'm reposting this right now because of the date in my country (and a happy birthday to my irl bestfriend, allain. hope you're happy wherever you are, fucker
aight imma head out
💜 You're not aware of the date today.
You wake up unusually early. It's ironic—everything today seems to be, and it's only six in the morning. That in itself should've clued you in because never in a million years would you wake up at five fucking thirty ahead of your alarm, and a weekend at that.
No one dare wake you up voluntarily before seven safest, not after that incident with an overly-hyper Joji that resulted in him sporting a black eye and split lip for a week. No hard feelings were had; you've been bestfriends with him during the past few years since he became your client at the villa. It was resolved with a quick fuck before you even got out of bed. Everybody pretended that the scratches on his back were—ahem—inflicted during the fight.
Pft. Sure.
He has since left residence, but he still flounces around whenever his schedule allows, the motherfucker. You should remind him to bring his own food next time because he cleansweeps the fridge every time.
Your mood has been off since you opened your eyes. You lie there for a few minutes before you realize that it's still kind of dark outside, and a quick check of your phone informs you of the time.
5:36 am
Huh. That's fucking early.
You rub at your chest softly, wondering where the hollow sinking feeling is coming from and what roused you from your sleep. Granted that yes, you're not the most mentally healthy person, but the feeling is different from usual. Almost worse.
You try to go back to sleep but right as you were about to drift off, your bladder decides to kick in. Groaning, you roll out of bed and pad sleepily to your bathroom to do your business with closed eyes, trying not to let go of your sleepiness. Of course, that proves futile. You aren't able to fall right back to sleep after that. Normally, you'd have no problem jumping right back to snoozing, but again, irony.
When trying prove to be useless, you decide to get up. On the way down, you forget to take your phone with you, and you ain't going back to sixth ass floor when you're already on the second. You continue onward and bump into Shads. "Morning, Matt."
He looks at you in trepidation, and you laugh lightly at his expression. Nobody dare forget that you're not a morning person. "Hey, Y/N."
"Relax, I'm not gonna punch you." He laughs at that and visibly relaxes.
"You're up early," he comments.
"Yeah. I don't even know why, and I can't go back to sleep now anyways so..."
He nods. "Well, I'm just turning in. Need to catch some sleep before we fly later."
"Fun night?" You ask.
He snorts at that with a laugh as he turns away to walk to his room. "Wish. Had to be at the studio to fix some things."
"Aw, you poor baby."
"Fuck off."
You both laugh and walk away; him towards his room, and you towards the kitchen. "Sleep well. I'll make sure the car will be here later for you guys."
"Thanks, babe."
You feel it again while you are making myself a cup of hot chocolate at the communal kitchen. You have a love-hate relationship with coffee, so you don't drink it that much. You thump your chest lightly with a slight grimace, the feeling almost crushing now. Your heart is racing and you don't know why, hands shaking as you grip the counter and try to breathe through your mouth.
"Y/N?"
You look up to see Jin in his pajamas, blinking at you owlishly. "Hey, Jin." Your grimace morphs into an awkward smile and you put your arms to your side in fear that he might've seen it—he did.
"Are you okay?"
"Yeah," you say, ignoring the heavy pounding feeling in your chest. He doesn't look convinced. "You're up early."
He shakes his head. "This is my usual waking time. You're early."
Well, you don't have a rebut for that.
"Are you sure you're okay, Y/N?" he asks again when you stay silent.
"Yeah." You will yourself to calm down, even though it's obviously unsuccessful. "I think I'm just having a heartburn."
He raises an eyebrow at that, clearly not buying your lie. He decides to spare you instead. "You shouldn't be having hot chocolate then; that will just trigger it more. Sit. I'll make us some tea."
"No, no, it's okay! I'm fine." You try to argue, but you quickly shut up when he narrows his eyes at you. You wait in awkward silence as he prepares the tea and starts making breakfast, possibly for his friends. Once it was done, you thank him and turn to go back to your room.
"Where are you going?" he asks, spatula raised from where he is cooking.
"Back to my room?"
He shakes his head. "No, you sit. I'm making breakfast anyway."
"But I—"
"Are you really this stubborn?" When you remain silent, he hums and goes back to cooking "That's what I thought. Now sit down."
And what choice do you have?
"Do you take any medicines?" he asks after a few minutes of silence.
"...no?"
"Not even for anxiety? Or anything?"
Wow. What happened to sparing you? You shake your head no. He just raises his brows at that and (mercifully) changes the topic. "What are you doing today?"
"Nothing. It's my first break in months, so I think I might just sleep all day and stay in bed. I don't know." You shrug. "How 'bout you guys? Do you have promotions today?"
He shakes his head. "Nah. We're all preparing for Jungkook's birthday. It's in three days."
Wait. Jungkook's birthday is September 1.
You stop at that, the cup of tea paused from where you were just about to take a drink. "T-three days?" You ask shakily as he puts some food on a plate and places it down in front of you, unaware of your inner turmoil. The food smells amazing, but you don't think you can handle eating right now.
"Yeah. It's 29 today, isn't it?" Jin takes his phone that was on the counter and checks, then puts the phone back down. "It is. We're gonna prepare a surprise for him."
Fuck.
"That's good," you say, trying not to show how your heart feels like it's about to burst out of your chest. He smiles at you and turns back to where he's cooking.
So that's why you've been feeling off since you woke up. 29th. It's the 29th of August today.
You finish your food with difficulty but you don't show it to him to not be ungrateful. His cooking is great, but your mind is really just elsewhere today. "Thanks for the breakfast. And uh, the tea." You clear your throat as you finish washing your plate.
"No biggie." He smiles brightly and you almost forget—almost.
"Have fun today with your plans. I'll be"—you swallow as you leave the room almost hurriedly, and Jin finally notices your distress—"I'll be in my room if you guys need something from me."
You hear him ask if you were really okay but you ignore it, almost tripping on your way out. You don't know you've been holding your breath until you let it out as you reach your room and flop uselessly on your bed. You can't even cry at this rate. You've spent so long crying that it left you tearless and empty. When you try to look deeper, the pain is crippling that you can't even move to shed a tear. It feels like being suspended mid-air in a dark void with that feeling that you might fall anytime, only you don't know when and if the fall will finally kill you.
You spend the whole day in bed with minimal to no human interaction. Matt swung by midday and thanked you with a hug before the band left. It will be hours later when someone knocks on your door again.
It's Namjoon.
"Y/N?"
You're tempted to not answer him. While yes, your closeness with him and his group came a long way from just them being your clients, you still don't feel comfortable with giving them the burden of trying to deal with your tragedies and discomfort. He calls your name again with a light knock before you amble to the door weakly, opening it just an inch. "Hey."
You smile at him, but it's clear as day that you aren't really feeling it. "Hey, Namjoon."
"Are you okay?" He pauses, then shakes his head. "No, you're obviously not. Can I come in?"
And of course, he can.
One thing you like about him is his maturity and perceptiveness. With the chaos that comes with his group, Namjoon keeps them tethered. You love their group, you really do. But when the energy becomes too much, you're thankful because he always senses your need to slow down and calms them. Maybe it's the same reason you're drawn to him the most out of all of them. All you know is it isn't just a plain crush on such a charming person anymore. When you spend a lot of time with someone so kind and wonderful, their looks become just a fucking bonus. Every time you look at him your heart won't stop racing, and it's the exhilarating type that makes you sweat and puts the coil in your stomach.
You both sit on the bed, pulling up the covers as he sits a respectable distance from you.
"Hyung told me what happened," he says at last. Your stomach drops at that. "Do you wanna talk about it?"
Do you want to?
With your silence, he continues. "I understand if you don't want to. Just know that we're here for you." Then softly, "I'm here for you."
Your heart stutters, but you keep your face neutral by giving him a soft smile. "Thank you, Namjoon."
After a few minutes, he asks, "Is it because of Jungkook?"
"What?"
"Jin-hyung said you ran away when he mentioned our surprise for Jungkook." There is an emotion you can't name that briefly flits through his face before it smooths out to curiosity. "Is there something you want to tell me?"
"No!" At his surprised face, you backtrack. "No," you say in a much softer voice. "It's not that."
"Then what is it?"
"I—"
"Noona!"
Wow. Speak of the devil and all that jazz.
Jungkook bursts through the door, completely oblivious to the tense atmosphere in the room. Or if he does, he doesn't comment on it. "My favorite Noona~!" He climbs on the bed and sits beside you.
Your eyes flit to Namjoon, and you nearly miss the sharp look he gives him when Jungkook lies with his head on your lap. You snort at Jungkook's antics, a slow smile spreading to your lips.
"I bet you say that to all your noonas," you tease, to which Jungkook splutters.
"No, I don't!" He turns to Namjoon. "Tell her, hyung."
"I—what?"
"That she is my favorite noona!"
"You do say that to all your noonas, Kook." Namjoon deadpans.
"Hyung!"
"I'm kidding, I'm kidding." Namjoon laughs. "Everyone knows you love Y/N the most."
"Yeah! Don't be jealous though, hyung." Jungkook chides, a crimson blush slowly spreading over Namjoon's cheeks. "We all know you love her the most."
"Hey—!"
"By the way," Jungkook back turns to you and ignores Namjoon's protesting, "we're all going out later. Want to come with?"
"Uh," you awkwardly scratch the back of your head. "I don't know, Jungkook. I—"
"Please?" He pulls his infamous doe eyes that makes it hard to refuse. While you normally don't have an issue with going out, you're not feeling up for it today. Especially not today of all days.
Your mind drifts to your old friends.
It's been seven years since they'd all been gone, but the memory is still fresh. For the past few years, you'd celebrated this day—all their birthdays—cradling a bottle of whatever liquor you get your hands on. You'd plow through bottle after bottle, glass after glass, trying to forget that you would have been celebrating with them had that day not happened. Then, you'd come home and sob yourself to sleep and pass out from being drunk because them being gone meant your alcohol tolerance was suddenly gone too.
"Y/N?" You snap out of your trance and see both men looking at you in confusion. "Are you okay?"
"Y-yeah." The hollow feeling intensifies and you feel a little nauseous, but you shake it off. "Sorry, what was that again?"
"Do you want to come with us later?" Jungkook's mood subdues at your lost expression, concern marring his pretty face. "But you can say no if you don't want to!"
You know they really wouldn't force you to come with them if you say no. They never once made you feel like you have no choice with the shenanigans they drag you into.
Then you think about what Alex would probably say if he's still here, what all of them would say. They'd kick your ass for stopping yourself from celebrating and getting wasted. They'd tell you that you need to try to forget even just for a day, and that drinking a whole ass bar is one way to do it. They would probably say some shit about honoring them by getting shitfaced.
"Okay," you say weakly.
The two men looks at you apprehensively.
"Are you sure, Y/N? We really wouldn't mind."
You nod. "It's fine. I'm sure it'll be fun."
"It will be!" Jungkook says excitedly. "I'll make sure it is."
And make sure, he does.
Eight pm rolls around and you're ready to head out with them. You don't want to risk them being seen with someone who'll just drag their image down so as much as it pains you, you actually do put effort in dressing up and looking presentable. Normally, you would just wear the most comfortable outfit. You can't risk that tonight, however. You're going out with people who has all eyes on them. Being associated with someone who looks remotely like a trash can would do nothing good for their image, although you know they could care less about that.
"Noona, you read...y?" You turn around in time to see Jungkook's Adam's apple bob in his throat. His eyes rakes your figure and you can't help the slight flush in your cheeks when you meet his intense gaze.
"Am I overdressed?" You try to joke, but it feels weak. He shakes his head, cheeks a lovely shade of pink.
"You look wonderful, noona ." He mutters under his breath, "too wonderful."
"What?"
He ignores that, giving you a blinding smile. "Shall we go?"
You feel baffled by his actions, but nod at him nonetheless. "Lemme just put on my shoes." You turn around and miss his eyes go wide when you bend over to slip on your pumps. He subtly adjusts himself through his pants and tears his eyes away from your ass before you can catch him staring. "Let's go?"
"Y-yeah." He clears his throat. "Hyungs are all waiting downstairs."
"Are you sure you're okay?" You ask. You walk over to him and put your hand on his forehead, unaware of his inner turmoil at the skin contact.
He catches your hand, and you gasp at his intense stare. A few seconds pass and he squeezes your hand before letting go.
"I'm okay." He then smiles but it doesn't quite reach his eyes. "Let's go?"
--
You've already lost track of how many drinks you've consumed tonight. The corner of the bar was the perfect place and you made a beeline for it straight away once you spot it, unaware of Namjoon's eyes that were trained on you the whole time. You know you probably should've stuck with the others but you know your presence wouldn't be missed that much, so you stay put. You just left when you had enough turning down unwanted attention. Seriously, can't they all get a fucking hint?
"There you are!"
You startle as you feel a hand on your shoulder. You turn around and Jungkook stands there with a dopey smile. You assume he's on the way to being drunk now, but you really can't tell. "Y/N! I've been looking for you everywhere."
Obviously not everywhere. "Sorry, Kookie. I was just at the bar."
His smile gets wider at the pet name. "Kookie?"
"Oh, I mean—"
"I like it." He takes your hand with a slight tug. "Come on, let's go find the others."
You let him lead you and weave through the throng of partygoers. You feel the warmth of his hand on yours and fixate on it. Too much, that you don't know where he's leading you until the sounds of music gets muffled and muted. There's a firm click and thud, and you're being pushed against the door. His lips are on yours before you can even comprehend what's happening.
It takes you a few seconds to realize that you're kissing back. Weakly at first, you try to push him off you until he takes the hint.
His lips detach from yours and he pulls away, breathing heavily. His profile is illuminated by the purple light of the room, and you can feel the rise and fall of his chest from catching his breath.
"What are we doing?" You ask him, eyes wide.
"Nothing you won't consent to."
You look at each other wordlessly. He steps back a little from you and removes his hands on your hips. You realize that he's giving you an out if you want to, but that you really don't want him to give you an out.
The last part scares you.
"I won't force you to anything you don't want to," he says gravelly. "You can always say no."
"What if I don't want to?" You mumble. "Say no, that is."
He looks confused for a moment. When it dawns on him, however, his lips pull into a slow devilish smirk. Goosebumps follow his fingers on your skin.
"Then we do whatever you want."
It's all a blur after that.
His lips find yours again, hands seeking the curve of your hips. He trails kisses on your cheeks down to your neck and chest, and sucks bruises that make you gasp out loud as your hands tangle in his silky hair. They don't slack grip as you guide him down right where you want his mouth and hands.
He takes you twice; first is when he pounds you from behind. Your hair is fisted in his hands as he pulls on it, and your eyes roll back in pleasure.
He thrusts deeper when you moan loud. "Stay quiet, noona," the honorific sounding sinful from his lips. You keen when he grinds his hips and hit that wonderful spot.
The second is with your legs wrapped around his waist, arms on his shoulder. You can feel the pulse of his cock inside you with every savage thrust, and it makes you forget what it is you're running from. Half-crescent scratches are etched on his shoulders as you grip him tightly when you come, his hips stuttering in rhythm as his own orgasm crashes through him when you tighten around him.
Once you both finally catch your breath, he puts you down gently and fixes the creases on your dress.
"I'm taking this home," he says and pockets your panties. You don't have it in you to protest. Instead, you settle on rolling your eyes at him with a placid smile.
"I think you fucked the sad out of me," you say as your breathing calms to normal. You run your fingers through his hair and he kisses your wrist. "Thank you, Kookie. Happy birthday."
He pulls you into a tender hug, pressing a kiss on your hair. "Love you, Y/N."
You don't respond, don't need to. You know he feels it with how you fix his appearance and ruffle his hair as you lead him out of the room, totally unaware of a set of eyes that follow you both on your way out.

Hai hai hai
Idk if there are peeps here who loved my mixtape series, but if you did, hi!
I just started meds, so my body system is kinda wack.
HOWEVERRRR
I'm already starting on another part hwhshshsqhahwhjsujwjsjw
Please note that when I write the mixtape series, it's not necessarily in chronological order.
If it irks you that my writings are all over the place, I'm so sorry but I rly cant force my brain to write in one linear pace. As I always say, I hope I don't disappoint, and I'm so sorry if I do.
Thank you so much for loving my babies and for giving them the time of the day. Everytime I get a notification of likes/reblogs/kudos/bookmarks, it warms my heart bc wtf it is more than I ever hoped for.
Thank you so much! I hope to be able to finish writing the next part and post it within this weekend while I house sit because my parents will be out of town.
Toodles~!
