Toy Story 4 (2019) . 8/10 . I am having such mixed feelings about Toy Story 4, I throughly enjoy watching this movie, I had a blast watching it. But that being said, it is a movie that I never thought is necessary. . Toy Story 4 is a very well written and well directed movie. The two hours of screen time never had a dull moment. When I heard that there is a new Toy Story coming out, I was worried as I don’t know if this movie would just be using the same formula as the previous installments without anything new. But I really like the new take on this movie. It’s a heart warming movie that makes you care about the characters. . I really enjoyed the introduction of the new characters, some of them play a really big role in the storyline thus quite a long screen time. But the new characters are handled very well they you won’t found them annoying but liking them. My favorite is definitely Ducky and Bunny, all their jokes landed for me and just very lovable characters. One thing I would want more is scenes of Woody and Buzz, since there are so much going on, we don’t get much of the two of them. . Thought I think this is an amazing movie and worth a watch, I just keep thinking that I can do without this latest installment. Toy Story to me is a perfect trilogy, and Toy Story 3 feels like a perfect ending to me. I love how that movie ended and tie all the loose ends of the franchises. That’s why this movie to me feels a lot more commercial so that they can earn one last buck. Arrival (2016) . 6/10 . I’ve been wanting to watch Arrival for ages because I heard some great things about it. But turns out I am not that impressed with this movie. I would say that it’s a pretty decent movie, it’s entertaining enough that I had a good time watching but it’s not one that I love very dearly. . I am a fan of Amy Adam especially after watching the TV series Sharp Objects. She’s amazing in most of the things I’ve seen her in but somehow in Arrival I didn’t really see her shine. I don’t know if it’s because of her character with a more dull personality, but I feel like there’s something missing in this film. . In old Hollywood movie, a lot of the female characters are for decoration in the background and in Arrival, it’s giving me a feeling that it’s the case reverse. The male lead portrayed by Jeremy Renner feels not very important. . But in general, I quite like the idea of this film. The plot got me thinking a bit. Game of Thrones - Season 8 . 3/10 . Game of thrones. How do I even begin ranting about season 8. Bad isn’t enough a strong enough word to describe how disappointed I am with this season. I think it’s amazing how they destroy an entire show in just two episodes. . Unlike most people I talked to, to me I feel like the first three episodes to me is still acceptable. Yes, the characters made ridiculous decisions but I am fine with it. It’s the fourth episode those all me mad. To be honest, I am fine with where the plot is going, I am not trying to put my expectation of the story to the show. But what I hate the most is that, how can a character development be so underdeveloped. We spent 7 seasons exploring the characters, knowing their back stories. But you changed all of that just in two episodes and expect me to be okay with it. That’s just the worse. . Game of thrones has always been a show that I recommend to everyone. Dark Phoenix (2019) . 5/10 . After reading about the reshoot about Dark Phoenix thus postponing the release day, I didn’t have a good feeling about this film. And now I know my feeling was right. . It’s not like Dark Phoenix is a bad movie, it’s just that it’s very dull, you can’t really tell what you watched after watching it. I can’t tell what’s the main focus of the movie, it’s like there’s a lot of things that happened but also nothing happened at the same time. All the actions from the characters are very plot driven especially the villains in the movie. The arc of the villains are too underdeveloped that I can’t really see the point of them being there. The plot make it look like they are a huge part of this story but I just can’t feel it. . I never seen anything other than Game of Thrones from Sophie Turner, so I didn’t know what to expect. But she is amazing in the film. You can just tell what emotions her character is going through. Maze Runner: The Death Cure (2018) . 4/10 . I don’t think I would’ve watch Maze Runner: The Death Cure if I were not on a plane. After reading the book trilogy, the first Maze Runner movie surprises me. They changed up the plot of the story a bit and make it more suited for theatre. The second movie not so much, this time the source material is a better take on the story. This time, I can’t tell which one is better given that I didn’t enjoy the book either. . I can’t really tell if there’s anything I like about this movie. I guess the action sequences are the only thing I enjoyed in this movie. But since the plot is too all over the place, it’s very hard to focus on what’s good in the movie, when the plot doesn’t even make sense. . Since the second movie, the main characters kept making stupid choices and there are so many things that happens just for the sake of the plot. The plot doesn’t make sense to a point where I found myself actually laughing when it wasn’t mean to be funny. Locke (2013) . 8/10 . Over the years, I heard a lot of good things about this movie and I finally understand why. . The way that the story is being told in this movie is very distinct from the others. Throughout the whole movie, we only see the main characters driving in the car and having phone calls with various characters. The same thing went on throughout the run of the movie, somehow this unique method works very well and I didn’t feel a second of boredom. . This movie is very captivating, and I think the main reason behind it because of Tom Hardy wonderful performance. His performance is so flawless in this movie, you just feel for this characters. And all the other voice performances are amazing too, even thought you can’t see any of them, they have a very strong presence in the film and a very strong character. . The plot of the story is pretty simple, but with the few different storylines going on, it got pretty intense near the end of the movie. I found myself wanting to know what is going to happen next and feeling so deeply for the characters. Avengers: Endgame (2019) . 9/10 . This is the most highly anticipated movie of the year and the hype around Endgame is unreal. I actually watched Endgame twice before I can gather my thought about this movie. . I first watched the IMAX version and then a 2D version of the film and watching Endgame on IMAX definitely worth the higher price tag because both the visual and sound effects are amazing in the IMAX theater. I can’t imagine a better way to enjoy the movie. . Endgame is a 3-hour long story continue from Infinity War. I didn’t really know what to expect from this movie going in and I was just hoping I could get a nice goodbye to some of the beloved characters. And I definitely wasn’t disappointed. . When I was watching on the opening night, everyone was so excited and it’s the first time I actually hear people clapping and yelled out when things got interesting. It’s amazing to see that many people are as excited as me watching a movie. . Thought the film paced was a little bit slow in the first few acts, but its not necessarily a bad thing. The slow pace works for the situation and help build up the story from the desperate ending of Infinity War. The pace of the three hour tale slowly picked up afterwards to a point where I didn’t even realize I was sitting there for three straight hours. I read from somewhere saying that the Endgame is trying very hard to please the fan, I agree, but I don’t think it’s a bad thing. They earn money from the fans and it’s only fair that they try to please the one who pay money to see the movie. I really enjoy those Easter eggs put in the movie. This is a movie that fans like me was looking for and I loved every second of it. . I loved how they handled the storyline of the old characters and tie all the loose ends. It’s hard to say goodbye but at least it’s a lovely goodbye. Isn’t It Romantic (2019) . 8/10 . Once in a while, I would feel like watching a romantic comedy. Like one of the character in Isn’t It Romantic said, they just makes you feel good. But I haven’t found a good one in quite some time, the ones I watched lately didn’t really sit right with me until I watch Isn’t It Romantic. . Isn’t It Romantic is surprisingly romantic and it has a very interesting take in the genre. It makes fun of the typical Rom-Com while being a Rom-Com itself. It follows the typical formula in a comedic way making the movie very interesting to watch even you can already tell where the plot would lead to. . Rebel Wilson is an amazing actress, I think I enjoyed a lot of her performance in the movies. She has this energy to make the movie feel fresh and she is also very funny. The Umbrella Academy - Season 1 . 9/10 . The Umbrella Academy has become one of the most talked about how from Netflix and I totally get where the hype is from. The show is advertised as a show around a family of superheros, but the show turns out to be very different from what I expected. . The show started off in a way that doesn’t give audience a lot of background of all the characters, there are a lot of holes in the things you know about the family. As the story progresses, these holes started to get filled in, and you learn more and more about the characters. This really got me to binged watched the whole show and also makes me feel more connected to the characters. . After watching the show and loving it so much, I went and read the comic, but to my surprised, I love the show a lot more. I love how the show is a superhero show but it’s not a superhero show at the same time. There are villain in the show that they are trying to stop, but also there are a lot more drama element in the show that I really love. And it’s really interesting to see how that play with the time travel element, I think it’s the first time I see a show with negative progression in an episode. . Another that I really love about this show it’s the music they picked for the scene. First, the theme song is amazing. And al the other songs they picked for a certain scene are all so perfect. It’s the second show that makes me feel that way. I remember that was going fight scene with Queen’s Don’t Stop Me Now playing in the background. Nothing can be more perfect than this combination. . Captain Marvel (2019) . 7/10 . I was pretty late in watching Captain Marvel and edits I watch it I heard a lot of people saying they are not liking this movie. With a low expectation, I actually found myself quite enjoying the movie. . Captain Marvel doesn’t feel as formula driven as some of the older Marvel installments. It’s quite refreshing not having the facts lay out to you at the beginning of the movie. . I kind of understand why so many people dislike Brie Larson as Captain Marvel. Unlike other superhero, Captain Marvel seems lack of personality in my opinion. With the the minimal facial expression in most scene, Captain Marvel was completely outshine by Samuel L. Jackson’s character Fury in her own title movie. But in my eye, it kind of fits the plot as when Captain Marvel was working with Kree, she was told not to have emotions and feelings. And when she finally stand up for herself and most of the screen time has to be used in showing how powerful she is. . Creed II (2018) . 8/10 . I never thought I would like a boxing movie as I always feel like it is too manly for me. But the first Creed movie changed my mind. It was the first Rocky movie I watched and it made me want to catch up on all the previous Rocky movies. . Because of the love I have for Creed, I was really looking forward to Creed II and I have to say, I am not disappointed even thought I don’t think I love the sequel as much as I loved the first movie. . The plot of Creed II shared a very similar formula to the first one but that doesn’t stop me from enjoying the movie. The drama part of the movie was handled nicely, with enough dramatic element to balance the exciting boxing fight and training sequences. . One thing really stood out to me about Creed II is the scoring. All the movie matches the movie perfectly and it got me listening to them for days after watching the movie. Alita: Battle Angle (2018) . 7/10 . The only thing I know before I went into the movie that it’s an adaption from a manga and there’s amazing visual effects. So I decided to watch it on IMAX and I am glad I did. . Alita: Battle Angle is filled with amazing action sequences and watching them on IMAX make the experience even more enjoying. I think this movie is perfect for everyone who love a good action scene and the action sequences sure did make me clench my fist. . I don’t really have much of a problem with the storyline. It has quite a simple plot that I quite enjoy even thought at times it can be predictable. The villain feels very absent in the film which I kind of understand as there are a lot of set up in the story. Green Book (2018) . 9/10 . A heart warming story but also makes you reflect on how to treat other people. I throughly enjoy watching this movie, it’s a light story with a deeper message. The film perfectly balanced the funny scenes with the scenes that would make you clench your fist because of the unjust. . When I was watching the movie, it made my heart turn when I see the lead character was treated badly or unfairly. But then it makes me think about myself, how do I treat people that’s not my own race. Do I already have some perception based on their ethnicity before even interacting with that person? Maybe I do too.
