“The summer she was fifteen, Melanie discovered she was made of flesh and blood” Hello everyone. It’s so good to post after such a long time; it feels even better to be able to overcome the reading slump and pick up a book...whew, finally! I have recently joined Teach India, a Times Of India CSR initiative, as a volunteer to teach spoken English to underprivileged students so as to make them employable. I’ve started teaching and it’s the most satisfying feeling. The reading slump gave me an opportunity to rediscover my love for Origami - so yes, loads of good things came out of this slump. It also made me realise that I have worked so hard on my BG account that it would be a shame to give up just because I was caught in the middle of a slump. The Magic Toyshop by Angela Carter is #mycurrentread. Tell me how have you guys been? What have you been doing? What are you #currentlyreading? _________________________ #bookstagram #backtobookstgram #booksofig #lovetoread #themagictoyshop #angelacarter #viragobooks #bookporn #booklust #bookishhygge #thesimplejoysoflife #whatcouldbebetter (at Mumbai, Maharashtra) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bpq_yq_nceZ/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=3l8z42iysa5u

Hello everyone. I wish to announce, with a heavy heart, that I am closing my Insta account. I had taken a break, got around to posting once again but it doesn’t feel the same. I will continue reading writing book reviews, that won’t stop. However, it’s the #endofthejourney for me on this platform. It is not about the likes or the comments - it is just not for me anymore. Thank you to all my wonderful friends who have been with me from the time I set up my account in 2016 till now. I wish you all luck, joy and success. Stay blessed. Goodbye. “The artist is the creator of beautiful things. To reveal art and conceal the artist is art’s aim.” This pretty edition of The Picture Of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde was gifted to me by my gorgeous friend Medha (@the.fresh.n.fabulous). Medha is an avid reader who writes clear and well balanced reviews. If you are not already following her, I heartily suggest that you do. The only work of Wilde that I have read and loved is the famous short story The Canterville Ghost. I’m equally eager to read TPODG. Have you read it? If so, what were your thoughts? ___________________________ #bookstagram #mumbaibookstagrammer #booksofig #almaclassics #thepictureofdoriangray #oscarwilde #frommycollection #literaturejunkie #lovetoread #bookishhygge #bookishallure #bookishglee #bookworm #booknerd #readingisfundamental #thesimplejoysoflife #whatcouldbebetter (at Mumbai, Maharastra) https://www.instagram.com/p/BnY5UAilY5m/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1rwk27kkuidre

Hello, book fam! I’ve had a busy, satisfying weekend and I’m ready to rock and roll into the new week. As many of you are aware, I am experiencing a reading slump. I’m not fighting it - instead I’m discovering other things that I like to do and this is making me content. I made my way slowly through Love by Jeanette Winterson. She writes piercingly with a certain brutality that, at first, can feel intimidating. The reader can feel her anguish and bitterness emanating from her clipped, taut prose. Sarcasm is highly evident and her take on love and it’s associated emotions is highly singular and bold. That being said, I did not agree to many of her ideas. I also found that as the book progressed, many of her ideas were repetitive. Overall, Love is a solid introduction to Winterson. Recommend if you love taut, poignant prose and a singular approach to the most beguiling of human emotions - love. ___________________________ My rating - 3.5/5 ___________________________ #bookstagram #booksofig #abookishrendezvousreview #abookishrendezvousrating #vintageminis #love #jeanettewinterson #vintagebooks #lovetoread #literaturejunkie #bookishhygge #bookishallure #bookworm #booknerd #readingismagical #readingisfundamental #frommycollection #thesimplethingsoflife #whatcouldbebetter (at Mumbai, Maharashtra) https://www.instagram.com/p/BnQAZQBFSa_/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=xvjd45x4tssc

A sunny afternoon, glorious red roses and a zeitlos classic which I first devoured at the age of ten. Sounds like a perfect late afternoon, doesn’t it? Indeed it is. Alongside Upstream written by Mary Oliver, I’m rereading The Secret Garden written by Frances Hodgson Burnett and I’m loving it even more this time round. There is a depth to The Secret Garden which makes it rightfully a classic. Add to that, Hodgson Burnett’s writing seems to envelop me with warmth and comfort - I’m just basking in that. __________________________ Which is your favourite childhood classic? “In the beginning I was so young and such a stranger to myself I hardly existed. I had to go out into the world and see it and hear it and react to it, before I knew at all who I was, what I was, what I wanted to be.” Mary Oliver’s stunningly poignant prose is helping me through a reading slump. ________________________ #bookstagram #booksofig #frommycollection #upstream #maryoliver #penguinpress #lovetoread #readingisfun #readingiscool #readingissexy #bookishhygge #bookishallure #bookporn #booknerd #literaturejunkie #met_createchange #thesimplethingsoflife #whatcouldbebetter (at Mumbai, Maharastra) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bm_Fj-aFj6I/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1fncx3uejdld

“The process of reading is reciprocal; the book is no more than a formula, to be furnished out with images out of the reader’s mind.” ———————————— Elizabeth Bowen is my favourite author - she inspires me with her eye for detail and for capturing the human emotions in their raw essence. She is not an easy author to read but oh boy, the effort is so worth it. If you haven’t read her works, I highly recommend you do. Good starting novels ( not featured here in the picture)are The Last September - a nostalgic elegy describing the Anglo- Irish Gentry and The Death Of The Heart - a heart rending portrait of a teenage girl caught up in the harsh emotions of her adolescence. ___________________________ Wishing everyone a Happy Weekend! ___________________________ #abowenfridaypost #bookstagram #booksofig #vintagebooks #elizabethbowen #frommycollection #literaturejunkie #lovetoread #readingisfun #readingissexy #readingiscool #bookishhygge #bookishallure #bookporn #booknerd #bookworm #met_createchange #thesimplejoysoflife #whatcouldbebetter (at Mumbai, Maharastra) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bm3KAw7Fa7Q/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1mxewgttmfl4b

In a month’s time, I will be shifting out of my lovely little flat. I will miss my shelves the most - these shelves truly reflect who I am. Needless to say I’m sad but the life’s one true mantra has always been to move forward. So with a heavy heart I will be doing just that. But I will miss these shelves. #movingon #goingforward ____________________________ #bookstagram #booksofig #frommycollection #literaturejunkie #lovetoread #readingiscool #readingisfun #readingissexy #bookishhygge #bookishallure #bookporn #bookworm #booknerd #thesimplethingsoflife #whatcouldbebetter (at Mumbai, Maharashtra) https://www.instagram.com/p/BmukgIGF4tm/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1oyf2kyu0dgzo

Hello, everyone! It is a rainy Monday here in Mumbai. Last week, while down with a viral, I finished reading The Haunting Of Hill House by Shirley Jackson. Below is my review - Dr. Montague, an anthropologist by profession, is fascinated with the study of the supernatural. For this reason, he rents Hill House, which stands majestic and alone, surrounded by lonely hills. Luke, ( a member of the present family that owns the house), Theodora and Eleanor Vance join the doctor in his psychical quest. Rumours circulate in the village of Hillsdale that the house is haunted. These rumours are reinforced by the behaviour of the old caretakers, Mr. and Mrs. Dudley, who refuse to stay after dark. ___________________________ The question I kept asking myself incessantly, while reading the book was - is Hill House haunted? It could, in all likelihood, be haunted. However, I am not convinced. The feeling I got was that the terror was lurking underneath the minds of the characters, especially Eleanor. Due to a troubled life, wherein she found herself lonely and unloved, the fear that the house is haunted and the belief that it may actually be, began to infiltrate her already fragile mind. The reader can sense her gradually falling into an abyss of madness. Eleanor’s characterisation instilled terror, which added to the sinister fabric of the house and made the atmosphere even more ominous. The ending, though indefinite, left me dumbfounded. ___________________________ I loved reading this book because it made me think - it made me think deep. It encouraged me to go beyond the petty world of haunted houses. Jackson, in fact, points out, that the human mind is extremely fragile and complex. It can be as menacing as any old haunted house and more terrifying than any demon out there. ———————————— #abookishrendezvousrating - 5/5 ___________________________ #bookstagram #booksofig #abookishrendezvousreview #thehauntingofhillhouse #shirleyjackson #penguinbooks #frommycollection #lovetoread #literaturejunkie #readingissexy #readingiscool #readingisfun #booksthatmakeyouthink #bookishhygge #bookishallure #bookporn #bookworm #booknerd #thesimplejoysoflife #whatcouldbebetter (at Mumbai, Maharastra) https://www.instagram.com/p/BmsAXNhlYnC/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=elq3j43kgrmn
